what the fuck is up with gamestop???

CAGiversary!
I went to my local gamestop today and I'm cool with all the employees. So I'm looking around and I pick up a game and I put it back down after looking at it. Then this guy in a plaid shirt who had a GAMESTOP card was like THAT DOESN'T GO THERE, PUT IT BACK OR GET OUT! I think the guy was a person who is like a big shit in the industry. Then I took my game up to the counter. It was a $15.99 game and the guy goes what are you poor. I'm like no and he goes than why dont you get a newer game instead of this cheap thing. Then when I was walking out i stopped to play the demos and he was like YOUV'E MADE YOUR PURCHASE STOP LOITERING. What the fuck is up with this. It has happened to me and my friend who went to a different gamestop. Does anyone know why this is going on?

thats pretty retarded, although i dont think thats any kind of a gamestop policy (to kick people out after theyve made their purchase or to harass people about putting things in the wrong places) to be assholes cause that would b extremely bad business. who knows after playing the demo u might wanna buy that or another game. and none of the gamestops around me do things like that. u should just put in a complaint on their site or something. aside from that just dont go to that gamestop anymore.

Every time I go to Gamestop I almost get in a fist fight with one of the employees . I try to stay as far away from that store as humanly possible .

in my game stop...its always the same couple guys working...and all they do is breathe down your neck until you leave..."what are you looking for" "what are you looking for" "what are you looking for"...im looking for you to stfu so i can browse, biotch...also....every time i go in there...the employees brag about how they're company is owned by barnes and noble or something and how they're killing eb in sales...they get on my freakin nerves

As AWESOME-O would say, "LAME!"

I'm sure its not Gamestop company policy to be an ass, but I guess some of these guys are really on a power trip. Pretty sad, actually.

Thank you morganwebblover you know exactly how it feels. LOL trustcompany1012 they brag about beating eb. In mine they brag about their levels on evequest and their knowledge of video games and they pick on the customers like I asked how much ff xi was per month and the guy was like it's free. I was like no it's not no mmorpg's are and he goes shut up i was trying to make a sale.

I've had mixed results. Some Gamestops have real jerks working there. But most have employees that are somewhere between knowledgeable/friendly and knowledgeable/annoying but friendly. It all depends on where you go.

Also, I'm not sure why EB's selection sucks so bad (I suspect their policies allow for more employee vulturing of good games before they ever get to the shelf), but it's no wonder Gamestop is outselling them. My fortunes in finding "treasures" at Gamestop vs. EB is about 20 to 1.

i would be crazy pissed if somebody talked to me like that. i'd probably do something evil...

I wonder if appearance/age has anything to do with it. When I worked I would have on slacks, shirt, tie, nice dress shoes, and they would always call me sir. Now that I am unemployed, I go in with jeans and a t shirt, and get no respect at all.

I had a similar experience at EB over the weekend. First, let me say the EB by me (Johnson City, NY) has gone all to shit. The manager is Comic Book Guy's brother, and the store is dirty, stuff is never organized, and he hired a bunch of friends that are all a bunch of fuck-tards.

Anyways, I was browsing some of the PS2 games and a kid in a yellow shirt next to me was minding his own business looking at the games too. When an employee said, "Anyone who wears a yellow shirt in here deserves to have his ass kicked!" The employee continued to rant and rave, trying to act "cool" around his friends. He sounded like a complete ass. The kid in the yellow shirt ignored him, and I walked over to the Xbox games which were closer to where the employees were standing. The employee was talking to his friends about the kid, calling him racial slurs under his breath.

At that point I just walked out. I should have got the employees name, I should have demanded his ass on a stick, but I just wanted the hell out. A regional manager needs to get in there and clean house, because nothing is going to change with the turd of a manager they have in there now.

assholes man..i cant belive that someone could treat someone like that....i say go other there n kick his ass..next time he says "are you poor?" b like " no im saving up for your mom" jackasses

Maybe if you didn't have a potato for a head? jk.

There is a local EB that I boycotted for a little while, but now I just don't go in there when the one manager who is a complete ass is there. When I went in to pick up FF:CC and the link cable (they were OOS when I reserved), he told me I might not be able to get the cable, and I should have read the fine print on the offer. I asked him to show me the fine print that I was supposed to read, and he said he was too busy (the store was almost empty), and I should come back in 2 days. I asked him to tell me where it was written, and he couldn't/wouldn't. He just gave me a list of all the things I've done wrong (trading in sealed games, for example), and how he has given me such great customer service by letting me trade in things that I shouldn't (first I had heard about it).

It just isn't worth my trouble to go there when he is working, but the other guy is cool. Well, not cool, but he is an ok guy.

HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!! I would'nt have taken that garbage from any pencil d!ck bastard employee. He'd have been laid out on the floor with his teeth laying next to him.

I would go back get his name and continue to call corporate until they did something about that asshole.

EDIT: Forgot to ask was this a mall location? If so file a complaint with the mall, I think you would need to go to the security desk to do so.

call EB. I had some assholes deal with me in a manner that was unacceptable, and the district manager gave them hell. Next time I walked in, there was no more attidude in them (he straigtened the situtation right out). And if you think people were using racial slurs that could get them sued for a ton of money, and the district manager would probably go over there and do something

Maybe its mainly the ones in the hustle and bustle of really big cities. I have been to Gamestop in Roanoke, VA before and I got no problems at all. (Also considering my height, most people wouldn't mess with me anyway). I asked to look at the disc of a Dreamcast game they were clearing out. It didn't meet my satisfaction and told him I didn't want it. He put it away and was cool about it. In general there is a lack of common decency and respect in society today anyway.

I was given a game as a gift from EB. The game was sold to my friend new but with no seal or wraping. I thought that it was a crapy game and without playing it I went back to return it the same day with the receipt. They refused to return it cause it would be a "crunch" to their business. I wouldn't have anything with that. I made sure that I called their corporate offices on the spot and got them to return it. I wouldn't allow a**holes like that to treat me that way. You need to remember that it's all about perception. If they think that you are a "nobody" they will use that to ridicule you. You need to have confidence and throw it right in their face.
This just makes me go to a gamestop and see if they would pull a stunt like that on me.

rofl ur story made me laugh... sorry.. lol if i was in the store and i saw that happen to somebody else in the store lol i would laugh my ass off. but yea they were being assholes, thats when u pull out ur 9 and busta cap in they game-stoppin asses.. CLACK CLACK ja heard me?

Man, if anyone in a retail store ever talked to me like that I would give them my two cents plus more. Then I definitely wouldn't have spent my money in the store after that.

oh yea? i gotta pretty good gamestop story. So i preordered steel battalion from capcom, then cancelled my order and ordered from gamestop because they had some free shipping thing going on which saved me 20 bucks. Anyway my credit card expired the day steel battalion was rereleased. so they cancelled my order. So i was real pissed because i thought i wasnt gonna be able to get one. So i checked the inventory at all of my local gamestops. Im in downtown chicago so its hard to get to the suberbs without a car. anyway, i found a store that had one. I called them up and asked if they could hold it for me. They said they dont hold things. He said not to worry because its not in high demand because of the price. So i take a cab down there, and its in a bad part of town, i was scared. so scared in fact that i asked the taxi drive to stay there while i ran in real quick and bought something. So i get there and after waiting in line for 10 minutes i tell the guy i want steel battalion, he had the balls to say it was on hold. I told him i called not even 30 minutes earlier and that he wouldnt hold it for me. He said it was in the back and he didnt know anything about it. funny how that works. I ended up paying 30 dollars for a cab, all for nothing. I apologize if the story is too long, i got caught in the moment.

Different employees will do different things. I will not hold a game longer then 2 hours (c'mon, if you really want that game, get offyour butt now). Some employee's won't hold anyhing, some will for the rest of the day. All depends who you talk to.

Next time, tel them you want to buy their membership card at the same time, and they will hold it, heh.

it was probably just some people trying to show off to each other. however, i do have to say that it's not cool to pick something up and then put it down where it doesn't belong.

Like I said in some related threads...Gamestop hire some unintelligent people to run their store. And they would rather hire salespeople instead of people for the love of the game...oh well that was last Christmas.

The Gamestop at 44th st Manhattan has a couple of assholes including the Manager. The other day I brought a game to the front to check the price. The guy with a sarcastic smurk tells me "It has the price on it" I said I could see that but I saw it on line and it was cheaper. He said "the prices on line are not the same as store prices" I know not all prices match but most do. What bothered me most was that the store at that point had two other customers and none of them were at the register. So now I tell the guy why dont you just scan it just to verify and he looks at me like I have 3 heads or something. Finally after I accused him of perhaps being mentally challenged he scaned it. The game was not the price I hoped for but why do this people insist in not doing their job. Ive had guys refuse to give me the scanning price when im right just because its different from the price tag. "It must be a mistake" they claim. So what its not like the store is theirs and they are losing their own money. As long as the money in the cash register matches their sales then whats the problem. shaq-fu them...

Personally that doesn't sound like a very good way to do business. Does gamestop as a chain not have policies on holding things so that way everything is even and makes sense. Also, only 2 hours? What if someone calls from work and wants to pick it up afterwards. It's not so much a case of "getting off your butt" rather than finding time. In shadd's situation what was the harm in holding that game for him especially if there wasn't a high demand, doesn't seem to make much sense. I've worked in retail before and I learned that companies are designed to work with customers lives, not make customers work to make their lives fit with that company.

Wow, that's F***ed up! I would definitely take some kind of action, be it legal or physical violence, against these cock-knockers. I worked in retail for a little while, and I know that if I ever talked to a customer like that, I would have had my balls chopped off and then been fired on the spot. You just don't do that. Any store that would treat a customer like that deserves to be shut down, and the employee responsible should never work again. Where the hell do they get off treating customers like dirt? If it weren't for us, those fat pieces of shit wouldn't be able to hang out in a store all day playing video games. Okay, enough ranting...I would definitely do something about this situation if I were you. Luckily, all the local video game stores around here (Mechanicsburg/Harrisburg, PA) are pretty cool. There are some annoying kids working at most of them, but I've never been treated disrespectfully by any of them. As long as people let them walk all over them, they will continue to do it. Take a stand and put the Assholes in their place!

I think they do it because they get picked on for bieng nerds so whe4n they go to work they feel like they have power and can pick on us. I recently went back, the guys was like what are you a geek you buy so many games. I was like listen fuck you you faggot at least I dont site around here talking about my level in everquest like some faggot ass geek. After that he appolagized for what he had said and told me to come back anytime. As if I already wasnt allowed in anytime.

In the Gamestops I've went to, as well as other game shops, I've never encountered employees who breathe down your neck and badger you to buy something or leave. I guess it does vary in areas than others.

argh, i get angry listening to these stories. if any employess of mine ever spoke like that to anybody, they would get their ass fired, and if i could get away with it, beat! there's so much lack of respect these days.

Did you write a complaint letter to coporate? I imagine you could have got it without paying the shipping charges.

ok im new to this forum but i have been reading alot of the stuff you guys say about stores like game stop and ebgames.as a employee for gamestop i can say personally there are alot of assholes who work for the company it all depends which store you go to.i have heard alot of bad stories bout the one in 44th st but i have heard even worse stories bout eb games on 14 and union square. and i know the gamestop on 8th street and broadway has a pretty good staff. also the guy who said we pick on kids younger than 15 cause we were nerds is wrong well atleast in my case.lol i know in some stores managers have the staff not allow kids under 18 in the store till after 3 pm cause there suppose to be in school.so you might have witnessed that. also i have a question does any one reserve games or sign up for the game informer discount card ?

I only reserve games that I know I will like(megaman collection for example) and if they come with a nice pre-order bribe. Like the MegaMan shirt.

I don't waste my time with the discount card, as I rarely buy used games from them(with them dropping the NES games that falls to zero).

just to let you guys know we are rated on reserves and subscriptions the company sets goals for us and if we dont make them basically we end up getting fired over something we have no control over which is the customers mind and choice. and oh yea we dont make any kind of commision when we do get reserves or subscriptions and the best thing is they are even lowering our discount so if u guys encounter a disgruntal employee of gamestop i apologize for them because the company themselves have put us in a spot were it isnt even fun to work there and with the way things are its not easy to just quit. i dont wanna make excuses either because there are some pure assholes out their in the company but just wanted to give u guys some insight. and yea our discount officialy sucks we can get games cheaper buying them online or using the great coupons this website gives . which is kinda sad.

Man if I were you, I'd go over there and rip his heart out. But first, I'd get him fired. THEN I'd get bloody.

If any employee ever messes with you, then you just call the manager. If the manager blows, hell, call the HQ and get all of them fired.

Possible theories on the proliferation of assholes at videogame stores.

1. As the number of retail venues selling only videogames rises, the probablitiy of meeting an asshole employee converges to one.

2. If you are a vidictive asshole who shows no one any respect, your chances of meeting a like minded individual increases greatly.

They give better trade in value, and have a larger space outside of the mall. It's also right next to the liqour store. I never listen to their employees suggestions for games, because they never take risks, only reccomend AAA titles(and hyped games) and best sellers.

In Reply To Post #1

That's pretty crappy. My local GameStops let me hang out and do whatever I want. I even overheard the female employees talking about sex while I was playing the Everything or Nothing demo on the Xbox. A video game store doesn't get much better than that.

I prefer EBGames though. They're usually cheaper, games in better condition, and cleaner. At least where I live they are.

Never had a problem like that. Even when I ask them to scan a game to see if the price has dropped, they never have a problem with that. I've noticed that a couple of employees that have worked at the Gamestop near me in the past really don't know much about games, or not seem that enthusiastic working there. But never had anyone, at any game store, be as rude as the person described in the original post. Usually the customers are bigger assholes than the employees, but there is the occasional employee that just enjoys giving customers a hard time (like the people at K-Mart or JC Penny. I sometimes get dirty looks by employees at JC Penny.)

I actually had someone get snotty to me once.
I simply told him "Listen, you work retail. I am a customer and my money pays your check. You get paid to be my servant while I am in the store, so serve me or else be quiet and get me your manager."
He looked at me like I slapped him with a day old trout. I walked out very satisfied feeling good I put him in his place.

As a former retail manager, I know it is ALL retail stores policy that the customer is always right. Even if the store's manager gives you grief, get the corporate number and have someone with great verbal skills (if you don't) call and make a well stated complaint. Corporate offices don't care anything about their faceless employees. they just want your money and they WILL please you to get it. Demand your due amount of respect.

Yea, this isnt a direct fault of gamestop obvioulsy, unless they don't pay attention to complaints. Anystore can have bad apples, you need to complain, and go further up the ladder and hopefully get a response. If there is no action taken, then no reaction can take place.

Personally when shopping I act very nice, but in any case where I need to express my opinion, or dissatisfaction. I speak stern, + confidently. Have the attitude that you won't take crap, but keep you head.

If I was talked bad to by an employee, I would confront him, and make sure something was done.

If I heard another employee harass someone else, I would confront him, etc.

I posted a thread about my recent ebay auction, where I tried to be patient with a badly described item, but he wouldnt listen, so he got a negative, a report to ebay. If it was a big amount of loss I would have done more... It was 1.53 and I got the item cheap anyways.

I recently bought another item, which was shipped broken, immdieately after getting it, I called fedex had it sent back, filed a complaint with my credit card and got my money back, + got the guy in trouble.

I work at Gamestop myself and let me just say that guy is a shaq-fuing asshole. It all depends on the store you go to. At my store, all of my coworkers are great; no one is an asshole. At my friend's store, where he is the assistant manager, only like two people AREN'T assholes. It's all luck. Just give your business to another store if one gives you crap.

I perfer Gamestop to EB in most cases. The worst store staff is hands down Suncoast.

When Big Trouble in Little China ame out on DVD I stopped by on My lunch break to puck it up...the short-ish version

Me: Hi do you have BTLC?
Girl (stocking shelves): No it's sold out already
(oddly the store only opened 2 hrs ago and a cult movie sold out?!)
Me: Ok thanks anyway :) (walking away)
Girl: umm you know when we ask you to pre-order? Well we MEAN IT! See in small stores like this one...well small as in we don't do a lot of buisness you really shold pre-order...okay!
Me: (shocked I just got lectured by a store clerk)....ummm yeah.

I wrote to the Corp Office and told them what happend , told them to cancel my "Replay" account and anwser me one question. I asked if you look my replay acount they'll see I buy pleanty of DVD's for that particular store on what planet does it make any sense for a "Store doing little business" to be rude to a consumer who give it lots of business making them shop else where. I never got an anwser, after another letter asking why they ignored that I got a hand written apology form the district manager, a $10 gift card and never say the girl again. Also Suncoast pushes Netfilx desperatly. I cut a guy off once telling him I know what it is and don't care for it...he still pushed it on me. Rude or stupid?

As far as gamestores...1 EBX near me is probally the most laid back store, no one bothers you at all the oter is the toal opposite. Gamestop I have had my share of problems, like constantly being pushed on buying a guide A couple of the encounters that stick in my mind is this manager that looking like a tall midget say how "OMG like COOL" the attacks on the WTC were. Not that i was offened but shocked at how stupid she sounded. The same manager telling a costumer to leave his credit att eh store and come back, the guy comes back she leaves and the clerks deny there was a manager there that was a short blond girl. the guy leaves one of the clerks calls THAT manager at another store and tells her what happened. It seems that in NOrth Jersey "the land of 1000 gamestops" they did away with the People who felt Kevin Smith created Randal in thier image.

and then again there are some customers that are total assholes. I saw a lady try and return a guide for KH saying that KH2 was out and the guy behind the counter was lying cause her cousin in england has had it for a while.

I've never had problems with employees at any Gamestops. Every employee I've talked to seems friendly and helpful.
I have a story though. The guy wasn't bad - just clueless.
When the NES, SNES, and Genesis stuff got marked down to 30% off, and I was there, I got the clerk who seemed like the last to find out about it. I had to point out the 30% off sign at the SNES bin. The more expensive SNES stuff (Final Fantasy, Super Mario All-Stars, Lufia, etc) was in a locked case with the N64/N-Gage stuff. I wanted to look at something in the case and the guy let me, then told me "oh, the games in there aren't 30% off." I knew that wasn't true because all the used SNES stuff is 30% off, but I wasn't in the mood to argue so I didn't say anything. I bought two other SNES games that day and while the guy was ringing them up, he asked another clerk if the SNES games in the case were 30% off as well, and the guy said they were. I didn't buy the game I was looking at in the case though (Final Fantasy II... I'm waiting to see if I can find it cheap at a pawn shop or something).
