Wii Stuck on Update Screen?

I had trouble connecting last night, but I changed the channel on my router and that what through fine. Now its says "Updating...do not turn the power off. Please wait a moment". But the same thing is happening again, I see no progress and its been like this for an hour. At least last night it was moving slowly before it gave me the error code, Now I get nothing. Is it frozen-should I shut it off? I read that there have been problems with other linksys routers too.

This happened to me when I did the weather channel update. It was stuck at about 10% for over 24 hours when I finally decided to do something about it. I hit the home button on the remote, it asked me if I wanted to return to the main menu, and I clicked yes. the screen went blank. I tried all the buttons on the remote (including power), and there was no response. I tried the power and reset buttons on the console, and there was no response (ejecting and inserting discs still worked). At that point, I was pretty worried that it might be bricked, but I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and it worked fine. I changed the channel on my router to 11, and the update took about a minute.

Yeah, I had no progress but the little box kept moving so I assumed it didn't freeze. The remote turn off didn't work so I just pushed it on the console. Then the update was a breeze.

The trick of changing your wireless router to 1 or 11 is on the main Wii customer support page for Nintendo (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/), but since this problem seems to be so widespread, I think Nintendo needs to send out an email with common Wii problems and their solutions. This fix should be the first on the list.

I always seem to run into bad luck with electronics, but my wireless router is set to channel 6 and the Wii updates and downloads work just fine. Lucky me, I guess.

Yeah, don't screw with it if it is working. ;)

Agreed. I had a lot of problems with the updates initially, until I read the forum and changed my wireless router to a different channel--apparently, the wireless chipset used by the Wii is extremely sensitive to any kind of interference. To be fair, my neighborhood has a lot of wireless routers transmitting, in addition to cordless phones and such.
