Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

RE: Return Bans
Wouldn't the easiest way to stop "friendly fraud" be not to accept returns without a receipt. Problem solved. Who even does this anyway? Walmart is the only national chain that I'm aware of who practices this.

I noticed Best Buy dropped all the trade in values the day before this 100%. So it is really the same and prior sale with higher prices and 50% bonus. I have been tracking certain games.

Also, I have 2 sealed copies of games. What is the best place to take a video game without a receipt for credit?
You figured that out too? ;)
yeah did it last year to :) most of these companies are so dumb they make us possible

we stay with in the dumb rules they make and the loopholes they ignore
Not yet, Bgame. I'm planning to try this weekend. I was part of the December wave.
I was banned in the Nov/Dec wave also. I tried last week and was denied. I'm hoping that it comes off at the 1 year mark.

i don't tell people how to break the law ..but alot of people use walmart

the walmart return law is they tell the workers is never hassle people bring stuff back without a receipt because they are only getting credit and they will just get something else in store and they get another product they will sale for the price they gave you for it

LOL. Thanks. I wonder if they changed the policy. When I tried like 3 years back Walmart refused.

How is he breaking the law? He could of actually bought those games at walmart and lost the reciept or he could have received them as a gift. Now if he bought them in another store for a cheaper price and decided to take it to Walmart to gain profit then yes, that's illegal.

I just for my free copies of Steel Diver and Pilot Wings from gamestop for the 3ds purchase. So, I would rather return as new for 20 each. Than get like 6.50 combined for 'used'.
Yeah I did it last month for a couple games I got as gifts that I didn't want and they the lady at Walmart gave me the gift card, no questions asked. Just know that you can only return 3 items without a reciept per 6 months, after the 3rd item, it will pop up on their system and they'll need the manager to approve it

Lol, this is CAG. Of course he got the games it at a different store and is abusing the return policy. Return fraud is okay with CAG apparently.

Innocent until proven guilty buddy but I just saw his last comment so yeah he would be committing fraud
I was banned in the Nov/Dec wave also. I tried last week and was denied. I'm hoping that it comes off at the 1 year mark.
Yikes I'm probably still on that list. On second thought maybe I should save face and not bother trying now.

you guys telling the guy its a crime i use to work at walmart many years ago they said as long as the person didn't steal it they can take it back ...NO MATTER WHERE ITS FROM

I worked in loss prevention for walmart back in the day.

The wal-mart policy was "if it scans, we take it back".

Technically if a person takes back an item to walmart and knowingly did not buy it at walmart, it is return fraud and it is not to be discussed on CAG. (I never heard of return fraud until, I joined CAG, as walmart gives their customers the benefit of the doubt.

Yes it's fraud and that because you're manager was most likely coked out and didn't GAF

i told him its not legal ( but walmart is ok with it )

if you go check walmarts return policy it says that all electronics must be returned within 15 days with receipt only this goes for video games also

No it doesn't.

You guys talking about returning an item for something of the same value as fraud is a joke. They can sell the item for the same value as the other item. Fraud is when you represent and item as something it is not. FOr example, change contents in a box, etc.

how is it not fraud. They dont make profit by selling items at same as cost. They purchase items at wholesale, so they can make a profit. It might be very low on the scumbag scale, but its fraud nevertheless. Youre misrepresenting the item, as being purchased from there originally.

The third type of return fraud in this article seems vaguely familiar, don't you agree? When you buy something from one store and then attempt to return it without a receipt to another chain you are committing return fraud. There is no grey area in this. If you are only committing return fraud when you legitimately get gifts from someone and have no receipt, then even though it's tacky either ask for the receipt or sell it online via Amazon, eBay or Craigslist.

Actually, did you read #3. It says, a thief buys an item, says he never receives it, gets credit back for the item, then returns it to a store. Big difference. And also, just because someone wrote something on the internet, it does not mean much as far as a law. I could create my own site, post something and wow, it must be true.

To the other guy, stores take returns without receipts. They are always a zero sum for them.

So then by your own logic, what you're posting might well be a load of crap then?:applause: You walked right into that one.

To sum up what I was trying to explain in the last post I made though, if you buy something somewhere and then return it without a receipt to anywhere but the place you bought it that is FRAUD. Since you are attempting a return while at the same time committing said fraud, there's where ya get the name from. But you keep justifying it any way you want. Let us know how the loss prevention people at Wally World or wherever liked your explanation of why what you were trying to do is not fraud in any way.;)
It is not always zero sum. Walmart buys 1000 widgets at $40 a piece and sells them for $50. $10 profit on each. If you return the widget they can resell it again at $10 profit. If you return an item bought somewhere else they pay you $50 and resell it for $50. There is no profit. How is using Walmart as your own personal middle man not some type of fraud?

Zero reason in trying to convince you, since you will just come up with some BS to justify your actions. Why don't you just post a new thread here and say "Hey guys, I found a great new deal at Gamestop. Buy the 3DS XL and they give you two free games. Take those games and return it to Walmart for a full store credit! It's so easy guyz! FREE MONEYZ! Peaze yall, fuk da poleez!

Take that crap over to slickdeals where they will welcome you with open arms. Actually, they will just laugh at you because that's slickdeals 101. "Oh really? Did you know water is wet too?"

Goodness the last 3 pages of this thread are soon to be nuked.

Anyway, turned $20 into $40 with the 100% bonus today (I'm not unlocked (yet)) with some games I never play and finally have tried to start playing the flipping game:

Wii - Zack and Wiki - $2.00
360 - Def Jam Icon - $3.00
360 - COD Black Ops - $12.00
DS - Sims 2: Castaway - $3.00

x2 for $40. Wanted to post mainly to let everyone know the blops price is still accurate to their online value estimator, for now.

I'm probably gonna get rid of Gravity Rush, Dont see how it is the "must-have" vita game.......average at best. Maybe because I hate japenese style games....I'm gonna trade all the GoW's for $30 to get the Combo pack with all 5 games even though origins TIV dropped from 10 to 5.....

You represent the item as something you bought at Walmart, when it was not. The f*ck? I don't get your logic

I can't believe how strangly hostile you guys are being. If you think that buying a game from one place for $10 and then using Walmart's return policy to get more for it is fraud, then please, never involve yourselves in the US justice system. If you get called for jury duty, do the right thing and tell them you are unable to perform due to an underlying mental condition, lest you send some poor fellow to jail for something that he did not do. It is in no way return fraud. Anyway, it's fine. The less people that do it, the more chances the people who do do it will have, yeah.

See my post. Anyone who does the moral gymnastics to justify this practice most likely has done worse.

Wow, you know your doing something wrong when IATCG calls you tacky! LOL

And why would anyone argue with someone who doesnt think this is return fraud? They obviously know it aint right when they wont tell the store they didnt actually buy the item from that store.

Anyways, I bought Kane and Lynch Dog Days on a whim for $7.99 from BB. Horrible decision.l I could not get past the second level. Just not fun and hard to tell what the hell was going on. Anyways, right now the PS3 version trades for $5. With unlocked, $11 back sounds good to me.

Hope it stops raining long enough to get out tomorrow. Jesus its flooding here in Tampa again. Wish we could push the rain away and back to the middle of the country where it is needed!

Just got back from trying to trade in and about 2/3 of my games were rejected because they weren't flawless. I stated that Best Buy refinishes them anyway and that they were not in horrible shape at all. She then told me that the store got into trouble from corporate for accepting "really" scratched games and that the store was getting charged for all the games that were unrepairable. Looks like they are cracking down...has this happened to any of you guys???
I can't believe how strangly hostile you guys are being.
How are we being hostile, we just don't want idiots posting fraud-like activities here on CAG.

I don't even know what to say to this. This is some bizarre slippery slope that has nothing to do with anything. It's like someone saying you stole something and you responding "At least I didn't murder anybody. Now that is a real crime."
Anyway, it's fine. The less people that do it, the more chances the people who do do it will have, yeah.
Now, it sounds like you have been abusing the shit out of Walmart's return policy yourself. Receiving solace from the fact that these posts deter others from doing it so you can get a bigger piece of the pie. Your name is not surprising at all. These are the type of individuals CAG attracts these days.
So the TIV's get reavoluated tommrrow right? I bought some wii games today to flip, but I wont trade them in until thursday.
Yup they're about to be nuked because people are talking about doing criminal activities. Anyway, the guy that posted the WalMart return policy to show that receipts are needed obviously didn't click the exceptions section. It specifically says sealed video games are an exception and must be returned with a receipt:roll: So I guess all the returns without a reciept on games the frauds are saying they do regularly are YMMV situations lol.

It is not. It's one of the reasons I like this site.

Depending which mod comes along, this will all be erased and BegFourMercy will get a nice little vacation (deserved) from CAG. :bouncy:

Has anybody had trouble trading in multiple copies of the same game? Are you even allowed to do that?

I just wanted to ask before I went in and tried it.

It says you can return anything without a reciept right here. It's definately not a YMMY situation. Last Christmas I got a video game as a gift that I wasn't interested in and I returned with no reciept and I have done this since I was a kid.

http://corporate.walmart.com/return-policy

I do agree that buying something and returning it somewhere else without a reciept is illegal though.
