BEST BUY UPGRADE AND SAVE PROGRAM -- Begins January 13 2013 through the end of business February 2, 2013

Trade in ANY DVD (non-porn, non-bootleg) for a $5 credit toward purchase of ANY $9.99+ Bluray in stock at Best Buy B&M. This is basically an instore only deal.

Upgrade & Save FAQ's
1)

-- Limit 5 per visit. Per visit is most often interpreted as 5 per day per customer, but many people have just walked out and come back in immediately or later the same day with 5 more discs. Plenty of people have done far
more than 5 at a single visit as long as the store allows the exception.

-- No stacking of U&S coupons. One U&S Coupon, One Bluray . A Single $5 U&S coupon is allowed per Bluray or Bluray boxset (it may be the only rule I've never seen stretched). A boxset of 3 movies will not allow 3 coupons
and you can't use 2 or 3 coupons on a single Bluray under any circumstance.

-- Most of the time the coupons have an expiration date co-coinciding with the last day of the program so you can't save them and use them next month.

2) Trade in DVDs do not have to be same title as Bluray. Boxsets are most often counted as 1 DVD so if you bring is a set with 4 movies in one case then you will likely be given 1 coupon and not a coupon for each disc.
If your set has for cases in a boxset, just toss the box. If you have a TV series with 5 cases, bring them in as individual pack and not as a set. This works best if each case has a UPC code (S1, Disc 1). I've also found
that if you bring in a bunch of discs of the same season, same show then some clerks will balk so best idea is to bring 1 (slim)case from each set and make another trip later or be prepared to discuss the details.

-- If somebody pulls up a list off Google of 100 or 150 Old Blurays that are "Only Movies Allowed" then they are likely showing you the lists for May or October 2011 which were restricted to certain titles. The Google lists
get pulled up everytime this program is live either online or even instore -- check the dates on the list. If someone tries to tell you only same titles can be exchanged then they are incorrect. This is not the same of Selling/Trade-In
for Used Video Games and every time there are lots of people who get sent to the Video Games Department by employees thinking you are selling items. The Upgrade and Save program is separate and almost
always handled at the Customer Service Counter.

3) DVD must be a commercially produced discs (no burned copies)

4) No adult DVD that are specifically XXX content whether they are rated XXX or not.

5) Discs are supposed to have the original case and artwork and the discs are meant to be at least presentable -- the disc at least should look like it can be played. Many stores require the UPC to be intact. Some stores
check things pretty closely (right disc, right case, right UPC, disc condition) and others just toss the case into the recycle bin without any screening. In reality discs in anything that look like regular case are often accepted
by some stores including those is Blockbuster/3rd party cases with rental stickers and and nowhere near original artwork and UPC.

** Are HDDVD or HD-DVD combo packs eligible. This has been a YMMV issue and some places people have been given credit for both type discs, others only if it was a combo, and some stores refused to consider it
at all for the trade-in. If you run into this issue either try a different store or call 1-800 BESTBUY and see if they can clarify the issue for you or your Store Manager.

6) Bluray -- all current and new release Bluray priced $9.99 or above should be included. Music Blurays have been included since the April 2012 program which is different than previous sales. Preorders are not included.
Discs not in store can sometimes be ordered from BBY.com and some managers will apply a coupon to that item, but ....

7) Each store in the past had there own logistics of how to work the program. Most stores would make you stop at the entry and have your used discs stamped/marked/taped.

-- Many stores had you bring the used DVD to the Service desk, check them out to make sure they met criteria and gave the customer a preprinted coupon(s) with a receipt attached to the coupon/barcode. Some stores
gave the customer a Copied sheet of paper with the UPC bar code and attached receipt to 'activate' the sheet of paper. The coupon could them be exchanged at the regular register for the Bluray you were purchasing and
the barcode automatically deducted the $5 at sale. This allowed you to take your coupons out of the store and purchase later. The expiration date on the official coupon is usually the last day of the sale. . If you are given
a coupon with a receipt attached do not detach them or your coupon may well be disallowed.

-- Some stores required you to bring/leave your DVD at the Customer Service desk, then bring your Blurays to the Service desk to complete the purchase. No coupons were given out so you had to exchange and purchase
the discs the same day.

-- Some stores would allow you to trade your DVD for a coupon at the Service Desk, but each coupon was marked/Dated and you were told it was only valid for the date on the coupon and in that specific store. [Only had
this happen once and I have no idea what would have happened if I took the coupon to a different store or brought it back to the same store later.]

8) Discounts should be taken from the actual Selling Price of the Bluray on the day of purchase despite the fine print on the coupon saying "Discount taken from Regular Price." This has and will likely continue to be a
contentious point until corporate absolutely clarifies the issue or changes the language. BBY ads often show discs with Sale Prices and then subtract the $5 U&S coupon so logically that should apply to all other discs.

9) Price matching and also using $5 coupon is a big YMMV since this can be most certainly considered combining offers or double dipping much in the same way that PM and getting a gift card for purchase is often considered
doubling up. Since the U&S is considered a Store coupon it should be applied to the price before trying to PM unlike a Manufacturers coupon (this difference is spelled out very specifically in Target and other stores coupon
use policy, but not specifically in BBY policy).

10) There should be absolutely no arguments about using Reward Zone certificates during purchase.

11) Additional Manufacturers Coupons SHOULD BE allowed and should be considered the same as cash or a gift card on top of the $5 Promo. This doesn't mean it won't be argued and it certainly doesn't mean it will
be accepted, but according the Best Buy's own Corporate Reps, the use of MQ should never be questioned whether it's a sales price or pricematch or promo.

Multiple times the Best Buy Corporate Employees have had to repeat the phrase "The store should honor the coupon, even with the price match. Any valid manufacturer’s coupon displaying the manufacturer’s address,
a barcode, and labeled as a Manufacturer’s coupon at the top should be accepted on the product listed, regardless of the price." If there are any issues call the 1-800 number in store and ask for a ruling (unfortunately
this often ends up being decided "Manager runs his own store in his own way" unless it just flat out violates some policy. BBY.com community forums are the best place to take issues and often will be decided in
the customers favor with credits and RZ given to cover the missed discounts. Yelling and screaming in the store is not going to win you any arguments in store even if you are correct and will likely get security involved
and irritate everybody else in the store.

12) Buying a disc this week in hopes of applying the coupon next week will work, but it should work as a return/Rebuy so if the price is higher next week it may not always save you money. As usual there is some YMMV
whether some stores will allow you to repurchase the same disc unless the store has current stock. The same can be said of ordering discs online for pick up at the store -- some stores have allowed a return/rebuy to
add the coupon and some stores have refused to do this.

13) Only USED DVD or HDDVD movies are normally allowed as trade in. . Best Buy is only supposed to accept used DVDs, so make sure the DVD(s) you're bringing in to trade are unwrapped. They will sometimes
refuse to accept them if they're sealed. If you find some sealed DVD cheap and bring them to the store sealed, there have been issues. The easiest thing to do is just open them

14) Where to find cheap DVDs: If you don't have any spare DVDs laying around that you wish to part with, there are a variety of places to find cheap DVDs for less than $1-$2 each. Pawn shops, thrift stores, garage sales,
flea markets, dollar stores, and Ebay Several people have had success at Dollar Tree, where select DVDs can be found for 25 cents, and some titles even for 1 cent. *Disclaimer* Finding these 25/1 cent DVDs
is a YMMV situation. Some stores have them, some don't. Some BBY stores have balked at accepting these essentially throwaways in slim cases or cardboard sleeves though technically they are commercially manufactured and in their original cases so you should prevail.

Bringing 5 of the exact same item in for trade in -- often these cheapo discs can raise some eyebrows so if you can divide them up and bring in 5 different items it will go smoother though not to say it won't work

15) Most people have failed at trading in Blurays for coupons even if there is a DVD in the case.

16) If you have a multidisc DVD with those removable trays for extra disc, it is best if you just bring in the case with the tray out and you can keep the extra disc (cool for bonus material). Empty disc trays do raise suspicion
at the service desk.

17) Nobody knows exactly what happens to the old discs and cases. The official word is they are recycled at some national recycling center -- whether this means they are donated to charities for a tax deduction.

howd u find those steelbooks i haven't seen many in a long while and aren't the hangover steelbooks back to normal price

Bah same deal for me at a second Best Buy later tonight. Blu-ray prices always reverted to the sticker price when clerk tried to apply the coupons. I mentioned the $10 display prices for a couple of the movies. He rescanned the items and claimed it was "impossible" to apply the coupon to the sale prices. Pssshh whatever. The store was closing so I gave up and left empty-handed.

All of the SB's that he bought were on sale till the 26th I believe. After that they were all back to regular price. If they weren't in store then your SOL pretty much.
Just got hosed.

Found:
Rocky Undisputed Collection @ $22.99
The Matrix steelbook @ $9.99
Love & Other Drugs @ $9.99 (Anne Hathaway naked in HD, DON'T JUDGE ME!)

I have 3 $5 upgrade and save coupons and 3 RZ $5 certificates. I figure after taxes I should be paying a little under $20. ($42.97 + $3.44 tax - $30 certificates = $16.41)

Clerk totals up the bill and after certificates it shows $74.xx! I'm like, no, that's not right. After showing the shelf tags, the clerk asks the manager WTF. Manager says the skus on all the sale items are fucked up, says they had half of them fixed by mid-day. Next clerk asks if she should void the transaction, which is replied "yes". "But I've already applied the coupons". "They should re-apply after you restart".

Clerk rings me up again. Total is $29.93. :wall:

"I had the RZ coupons". She replies "yeah, they're on there". :bs:

I'm normally a patient person, but at this point I was just ready to GTF outta there. I pay up and leave. I'm going to have my oil changed across the street from BB tomorrow, guess what's gonna happen while I wait? They better not give me any shit.

The math on the receipt is amazing, I'll post a picture. Prepare to be confused.

EDIT:

Here is the receipt.

How she came up with those numbers, I will never know.
The same thing happened to me. I don't even want to get into it to much because I'll get too upset. I argued with the store manager for about 25 minutes.

They manually adjusted the Rocky Collection down to $22.99 and manually adjusted Heat down to $9.99. They were clearly marked on the shelves but were ringing up much higher.

They would not apply the $5 upgrade and save coupon because the computer wouldn't allow a coupon to work on a manual override. They interpreted the terms and conditions of the upgrade and save coupon to mean that it does not work for sale items.

The only thing I ever buy is blurays that are on sale. I bought the Dark Knight returns 2 bluray right in front of them and showed them the receipt that subtracted $5 for being on sale and $5 for the upgrade and save coupon. They told me that movie wasn't on sale.

We went back and forth for literally 25 minutes. I had them look up on my rewardzone account all of the on sale blurays I bought with the upgrade and save coupons. I've bought around 35 or 40 different titles during this sale. They still didn't believe that the blurays I bought were on sale.

Then the manager still told me the upgrade and save coupon doesn't work on "on sale" blurays. I said that the prices for the blurays aren't ringing up correctly. They are ringing up MSRP and I was given manual overrides which is why the coupons weren't applying. She said coupons always apply to manual overrides.

Just going over it again and typing it out is pissing me off. I told them I'd shop at another Best Buy from now on and not visit their store anymore. I also told them I'd contact the district manager about this.

There's a happy ending. I drove to the next closest best buy and they rang up the same exact items for the correct price. Rocky was $22.99 - $5 = $17.99 and Heat was $9.99 - $5 = $4.99.

The cashier at the other store said "Yeah, of course the coupons apply to any bluray over $9.99. It doesn't matter if it's on sale or not. The computers have been glitchy all day." She had to get out a calculator to figure it out, but I knew it was possible to subtract another $5 from the manual override.

Do you guys think I should call the district manager about the first store? How the fuck does the store manager and the customer service person believe the upgrade and save coupon doesn't apply to sale items?

I don't like being a negative person, but after today I would actually be very happy if Best Buy went out the way Circuit City did. I would lose out on great deals, but I would be joyous just knowing that the horrible employees I dealt with today would be temporarily unemployed.

In a perfect world, they would close down the shitty Best Buy I went to today, lay there everyone off, and keep the rest of the best buy stores in my area open.

^^gotta first say sorry for your troubles, then under my breath pretty epic story!

That first store was pretty shitty, second store sounded awesome. Love how you pulled up past receipts...

I'm probably pretty lucky, none of the best buys I go to have given me any problems with using coupons and U&S. I would not have the patience to argue with someone for 25 minutes over ten bucks but I'm glad it worked out for you.

Between this botched promotion (at least in my area) and some troubles with DeepDiscount I've had lately, my new shopping motto is "fuck anyone who isn't Amazon." Seriously it just doesn't seem worth the trouble anymore lol.

Yes, you should report it to the district manager. That is baffling and needs to be corrected. I don't want to see BBY go out I love the deals but that might be because the ones I deal with aren't as bad as the people you all deal with

The Matrix blu that I picked up was the BB exclusive steelbook edition tagged $9.99. Saw a few others tagged the same. I'll report back later after my price adjustment..... if my head doesn't explode first.

i had same thing happen to me with The Goonies at one store, it rang up $24.99 at the store but i got them to price match bestbuy.com $14.99, then the coupon didnt apply for some reason, a manager had to come over and just adjust the price to $9.99 manually

for some reason their system has issues when you try to pricematch AND use the U&S coup
Do you guys think I should call the district manager about the first store? How the fuck does the store manager and the customer service person believe the upgrade and save coupon doesn't apply to sale items?
Really, all you should have to do is point out a copy of the weekly sale ad and say "see, everything in the ad that's on sale shows the upgrade and save promo being applied to it, so therefore the upgrade and save promo applies to sale items." I don't see how the manager could get very far with her argument once it's in front of her in print, straight from the corporate office.

That being said, yeah, contact the district manager and complain. There's no excuse for the attitude that you got. Depending on the district manager, you might or might not get anywhere with it, but at the very least you can try.

Thankfully I never have these issues with the stores around here (with this promo, anyway; they're far from perfect on other things). The worst thing that I usually deal with here is other customers who are trying to do ridiculous things (like the guy the other day, who was trying to exchange a laptop for a router, after doing six other exchanges and apparently a full three months after his original purchase, and who wanted to have an argument about it with the CS woman) in front of me in the customer service line when I want to do my DVD trade-ins.

Hoping for people to lose their jobs is pretty low if you ask me. Alright, so they aren't competent... How often do you find a store where everybody is 100% on the same page and problems like this go smoothly? I worked at an office supply store and at one point, our systems were going haywire and we couldn't accept any form of payment aside from cash or check. It obviously screwed many people out of getting the supplies they potentially needed as soon as possible to complete their work, and we got an earful from plenty, but it was out of our hands. Problems happen, and things do become complicated. Alright, so they obviously didn't know what they were talking about. Hell, I went into one Best Buy during my first U&S event and the second week in, they told me it was over. I went to another store and they laughed when I told them that. Regardless, stores get tracked on just about everything, and lots of times you get assholes in managerial positions who care less about the singular customer and more about the numbers. So what if they lose your minor blu ray sales in the future? They'll still get high end appliance sales which make your sales look like nothing. Is it ridiculous? Of course. But it still doesn't make much difference to them. Contact the DM and HOPE that they get tons of complaints about that store.

But really, for you to hope that an entire company is forced to shut down and make thousands of people lose their jobs is silly and childish. You had a bad experience at one store, wahhh. It happens. Grow up.

Call up those numbers on the receipt and leave negative scores, for what ever reason the higher ups actually look at them.

Has anyone ever found a good deal on Apocalypse Now Blu or Schindlers list Blu?

These seem to be 2 movies i can never find below $24.99-29.99

EDIT: nvm, I see Schindlers List isn't even getting a Blu release until this March :D

Did a last run today and picked up the 3D copy of Hotel Transylvania for $20 with the Applebees coupon, Dredd for $14.99 and the Alien collection for $18.99 which was an amazing deal. Too bad this deal is over. Really a nice way to clear out my DVDs and get more than 50 cents for them.
Is it still possible to trade in today? I have 2 dvds I want to before the day is over and pick up looper and seven. Sigh.
The upgrade and save ends today once your local Best Buy store closes.

whens the next one anyone know and they should make to a everyday thing

Score! My BB has a copy of the $22.99 Rocky set waiting for me at Customer Pickup to get on my drive into work tonight. Now to find a dvd to trade in and print out my $5 RZ certificate and snag it on my way in right as they close at 9pm.

Well... I ended up using this this go around to buy 10 movies, which, with 2 I had from last time, got me 6 new releases paid for at MovieStop. That should carry me through to the next one of these in April :) You can't beat a new release blu ray for $10 out of pocket, and then stripping the digital copies and getting $15.60 in trade for the BR when you trade it in toward the next movie :)

Amazon has Apocalypse Now in the $19 range through a few retailers fulfilled through Amazon. The is almost the cheapest it's been, I think this is less than a dollar more from that.

For someone who uses Digital Copies, that would be ideal..

Unfortunately, I don't give 2 craps about Digital Copies and the only ones I ever put in are Ultraviolet and the disney ones. *shrug*

Gotta love my wife. Ran to the store for me today and got my last 4 movies (with my last four coupons.)

Rocky Collection for $17.99
Sin City for $4.99
Moon for $4.99
Chronicle for $6.99

Picked up Zombieland the other day for $4.99 as well.

Not the best Upgrade & Save that I've done, but I'm happy with what I got. (If my store hadn't been so picked over I would have gotten a lot more.

made one last run today, got dark knight returns 1 & 2. the additional 5 off coupon when buying both was too tempting.

also picked up eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, and annie. my wife claims it was for our daughter...but I know its for her.

You can watch Ultra-Violet digital copies on your PS3/XBox 360, and Blu-ray players that have an app called Vudu. Most Blu-ray movies will redeem in HDX on Vudu which is really close to Blu-ray quality. You can even share your movies with a total of 5 people. Go to Vudu.com, Flixster.com , and uvvu.com for more info.

I use the UV codes and all. But regular DC, I don't use. I don't have an ipod or video player and the quality is normally SD, which is why i bought the blu in the first place to get it in HD.

I did get my Rocky Set tonight. $13 + tax AC and $5 RZ.

Because I just gave my buddy my login info tonight so he could watch my movies on his PS3 at his house.

Hope I did that right. Worries not with trusting him, but more so of them kicking me from watching on MY ps3 when he's watching on his. Hope that doesn't happen

Last two coupons picked up Zombieland and Seven, was considering picking up Five year Engagement or Looper but those will be cheaper some day. I just know it. In my heart.

Do you guys think I should call the district manager about the first store? How the fuck does the store manager and the customer service person believe the upgrade and save coupon doesn't apply to sale items?
My best recommendation is to actually post in the Best Buy Community Forums. A community service representative usually will respond to you accordingly and will actually have a resolution to the issue. One time I was accused of stealing coupons from the @Gamer magazine in store and after posting, had a store manager call me to go over the issue. Post and make them solve the issue.....
For someone who uses Digital Copies, that would be ideal..

Unfortunately, I don't give 2 craps about Digital Copies and the only ones I ever put in are Ultraviolet and the disney ones. *shrug*
Or you can look at it as $60 for 6 brand new releases, whether you keep them or trade them. Not too shabby, considering that the Disney movies are on the list, too. I just rarely use physical discs. I'm much more likely to use a UV copy than an actual disc.
Is the sharing considered registering a new device?

Because I just gave my buddy my login info tonight so he could watch my movies on his PS3 at his house.

Hope I did that right. Worries not with trusting him, but more so of them kicking me from watching on MY ps3 when he's watching on his. Hope that doesn't happen
They shouldn't care. They probably just think you are at your second house/ on vaccination and brought your PS3 with you. I have shared my Vudu account info with my brother and they haven't said anything. He evens has a different isp thank I do.
I've had a lot of problems getting it to work. I had a Person of Interest Season 1 code that I could not get to show up in Vudu to save my life.

Everything pretty much works as long as it doesn't require me to input the code into the flixster website......that's when all my problems occur. I've lost about 3 or 4 movies to that site because it just swallowed the code and it doesn't show up on my vudu/uv account even though it's linked.

I've sent a trouble ticket in and they reset my DK returns p2 code and followed the instructions they gave me but it gobbled up the code again. I've tried by passing the flixster site but it won't work that way....god damn it!

After carefully reading the cards, now I realize that the movies may not be available after a certain date!. :(

Try disconnecting everything vudu, uv, flixster, then reconnecting. Also make sure you lof onto the studios uv pages, and create an account or if you have accounts connecting them after you discoonect

Picked up Dark Knight Returns Part One and Two, I'm pretty sure the price of Part 1 was a little fubar, but I picked those two up as well as a 13 month XBL card for under $45. Not too shabby.

I saw some cheap 50c DVDs today at Walmart.
They don't come with any DVD case or cover art. Just sold in original
card board type sleave but sealed with original ISBN code.

Think Best Buy will take this next time for Upgrade and Save?

Needs a case and cover art.

You could buy 1 and see if (emphasis) your store takes it. If the pattern is the same U/S is every 3 months. Same amount as Walmart return time.

My local Walmart had those for 25 cents. Turned in a dozen or so at my local Best Buy with no problems. Of course as with anything involving Best Buy, it's YMMV.

25c is very good deal if you can get it. Yeah.. I figure BB is always YMMV, depending on who's working too. Newbies tend to be more strict and seasonal worker seem to know how to process those U&S coupons, sometimes they don't even check the discs.
