These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I feel like I've seen this answered, but can't find it in the op. What type of controller do you need to trade in with a PS3? Is a 3rd party one ok? I could probably grab a cheap six axis to use and keep my DS3 I guess if it needs to be official.

First time if you're referring to the 50% coupon for renewing. It was a beta and based on talking with my GS rep yesterday, she doesn't know how long the promo will go.

Why not just renew your subscription at that price?
I have no subscription, I don't like signing up for things, and from what I hear, I would have to wait days for the coupon. So I'm pretty much willing to pay someone the whole price of the subscription over the coupon.
I got my 50% coupon within 48 hours.

gor 80 dollars after trading in some crap  and i canceled my last of up pre order  that i had paid off and the COD pre order I had placed  so i had 169 in credit after that and i picked up 3  50 dollar amazon cards and when i get home i notice the retard canceled my COD pre order but then reserved it again for 5 dollars   this is the 3rd time they have done this to me  this month

I traded in 5 ps3s this year and you need the og hard drive, they will check it. Unless your cool with csr, they will turn it on go to about system and check the size of the hd. Its a pain in the ass because the og hd needs to be updated with the Ps3 firmware. you have download it into a thumbdrive and reboot it and reformat it.. Yeah, you need a official Sony one too and it has to work. No sticky buttons or mess up analog sticks.

Ever since GS started carrying the Kindle cards it has been too easy getting a nice credit (thanks to AWD) but I was worried with some values dropping since I had to finish up some games and wait on others to get to me. I was glad the values held and so did other trade in promos which allowed values to stay intact. Also, took advantage of BB's B1G1 50% sale and some games from my collection that were collecting dust. Hence, you can get a nice chunk of credit like me if you have the credit to spare at either BB or Amazon.

Anyhow, I'm trying to get rid of my iPhone 5 since I got a new phone. I can sell it outright, and get $350 or so for it, or I can trade it in at Gamestop and get the same amount (or close to it) in store credit. I know they have the cash option which lowers the price, but I'm thinking store credit.

So here's the question. Say the phone is worth $350 in store credit, and they have the deal (30% extra in-store credit when you trade any games, accessories, systems, smart phones, tablets and more), does that mean I'll get the $350 plus an extra 30% (or 40% if PUR applies) added on? Because that's pushing $500 store credit. It may be worth it.

you should sign up for PUR pro ($15) and get 50% trade in coupon. You should be getting about $500. Phone only, no need to bring in box or charger.

and it's only 30%, you don't get the extra 10% on phones.

I am a member of PUR Pro. That's the one that gets you the magazine, right? I think I just renewed it a few months ago, so I'm assuming no coupon for me.

Don't know about anyone else, but the only thing I ever bought from the online store was Minecraft and I played the hell out of with friends. At this point, I'm getting more in trade-in credit than I paid for the 360 and year of Live.

Do they just take the phones or do they dock you if you don't have the box, chargers, etc?
I just took the charger and that's it no box. I traded another phone with out charger and I was charge $1 refurbish fee. They also just looked at and made sure no scratches or anything and that's it. The girl just look at screen and gave me the like new trade value.
 
I have 123 xbox 360 games I'm going to trade in for ~$496 after the 50% coupon renewal. Lots of older games. Might as well and turn them into Amazon cards.

I also currently have 184 PS3 games and I'm really on the fence about trading any in. With the PS4 launch coming soon there is no way I'll get to a lot of my back log so idk if I should whittle down the collection a bit...I hate to see so many sitting on the shelf losing value every day. Gaming time is limited with job, kids, wife, ect, and I always seem to go back to my staple games...what to do...

I traded in my black wii u....$150.00 base like I stated...then had a 50% more trade in power up rewards coupon....got $225. I got 4 amazon $50 gift cards and proceeded to spend them on amazon. Thanks Gamestop!

Speaking of phones, not sure if it has been stated but I'm pretty they take non-smartphones as well. At least that is what the CS girl told me last week. I have a couple old phones and I'll let everyone know of the status but wondering if anyone else heard this as well?

 
i was actually wondering about this. is the hdd the difference between the 4gb and the 250gb? also, if you have a 4gb with a 250gb hdd is it the same as a 250gb xbox?

I must respectfully disagree with you. Trading a 4GB Slim w/ 250GB HD added should not be the same as trading a 250GB slim since pro members would get a 10% accessory TIV bonus on the 250GB HD when it is properly traded in as a separate item with a 4GB slim . Math using OP data, 50% coupon and PUR Pro is as follows:

4GB Slim Base $95: After coupon = $142.50

250GB HD Base $40: After coupon & PUR Pro 10% bonus = $64

Total = 206.50

250GB Slim Base $135: After coupon = $202.50 (Note: per sasuke's update, the base value on this went down to $130 so would only get $195 with coupon now)

Please note that if the base TIV went down on the 250GB slim the base value on the 4GB Slim or 250GB HD accessory may have changed as well.

I have 2 questions for you sasuke

1. Do you work at GameStop? I thought you said you did once.

2. Shouldn't scanning the serial code prevent them from taking in a 4GB Slim with 250GB HD added as a 250GB slim?
1. Yes, I am currently an employee.

2. At least in the GS POS System, the system can not distinguish between 4GB/250GB by just scanning the serial number. It's really depending on the employee you get and how they trade it in. Yes you can trade it in as a 4GB system and 250GB HD separately, Otherwise if you dont tell them that, it's just taken in as a 250GB system.

Okay, trying to figure this out. Forgive me if it's been asked before, but I didn't have time to go through 60+ pages of thread.

Anyhow, I'm trying to get rid of my iPhone 5 since I got a new phone. I can sell it outright, and get $350 or so for it, or I can trade it in at Gamestop and get the same amount (or close to it) in store credit. I know they have the cash option which lowers the price, but I'm thinking store credit.

So here's the question. Say the phone is worth $350 in store credit, and they have the deal (30% extra in-store credit when you trade any games, accessories, systems, smart phones, tablets and more), does that mean I'll get the $350 plus an extra 30% (or 40% if PUR applies) added on? Because that's pushing $500 store credit. It may be worth it.
Just drop the $15 for a power up rewards renewal. When you get your renewal coupons you should get a 50% Bonus on all items traded in coupon, use that and you would get ALOT more. I dont thing PUR applies to phones, so you would get an extra $70 more than you would with the 30%.

This sound just like me plus all 3 of my kids play games so that really limit my playtime. So far traded in 20+ games already from my backlog, and I still have a 50% but no system to trade in in order to maximize the coupon. Will check out CL and look for Xbox 360's to flip.
 
For trading in a wireless 360 controller, will they give me crap for having a black battery cover and a white controller?

And also for a slim 360 is there a trade in option for slim 250gb + wired controller? Or this that not accepted at all?

As long as the battery cover is the one for the AA batteries you should be fine.

As for the 360 250GB slim with wired controller, I dont believe there is an option to take it with a wired controller.

OK, this question might seem sort of stupid.

My black wireless 360 controller is damaged, the top part of the shell housing has a large piece of plastic missing, I had it at the bottom of a box and haven't touched it in a while so was not expecting this. I do have an extra wired controller, though but its white.

Do you guys think they would accept my console trade in if the controller has a black bottom and white top piece? It fits fine and works as any other controller.

Oh because I was doing the 30% deal with the iPhone 5. He said if I renewed my PUR, it'd take 3-4 days to get the coupon, and I didn't feel like waiting. Sure, it was a $70 difference but after the renewal and the fact I figured they'd lowball me and give me the good price instead of the like new price, I only lost about $20.

Plus I live like 20 miles from the Gamestop, so.....

All in all I got over $500 in credit (only 30% applied to the phone not the extra 10%) so I was happy.

That and two of the games wouldn't have qualified for the 3/5/7 deal since they were under $3.
