Naughty Dog's The Last of Us - Left Behind Single Player DLC Out Now!

So VGChartz has week 1 worldwide sales at 1,166,632. This is pretty close to Uncharted 3 week 1 numbers (1,359,289) and better than Uncharted 2 (876,089). The real question is how does the M rating and other mature topics of this game influence sales. Will it have the same legs as the Uncharted series?  Time will tell I guess but I am glad it is off to a great start.

fucking hell, survival mode is insane. I reached the downtown part of chapter 3
right after you the soldiers give up looking for you
and I haven't used anything but only have 4 bullets, 2 shivs, 1 med kit, and enough supplies to make 2 more shivs. Hell, the only melee weapon I found/seen is one 2x4 and that was an enemy drop.

I can't imagine how you're supposed to beat some of the later parts on this difficulty.

The worst part is if you want to get all the shiv doors, you can't use them for anything else. I finished the game with one shiv after opening all 13 doors and you will never loot one anywhere. Honestly, the mode is only as hard as the wonky stealth system makes it. At times I'd just start letting bullets fly and would come away with MORE ammo than when I started. The game tricks you into thinking supplies are limited when in reality they will shower you with bullets when you're almost out. It's more about surviving a horde of enemies than anything else. Also, just use the bow when in doubt.

I'm actually doing much better with stealth this time. During my normal playthrough, I did notice enemies drop bullets when you need it (especially during the Winter parts) but I figured that that won't happen in survival since they're so stingy with ammo.

And shivs are about the only thing I do find. I just found my third shiv and have thus far, used one... on a shiv door. The shiv door was useless though since it only gave me 5 pills and 25 widgets.:whistle2:/

Don't expect to get a lot of supplies from those shiv doors during a survival run. I think a few of the doors actually gave me one or two things besides the pills and weapon parts. I still opened them regardless since I needed to max out my weapons and Joel's skills at the time.

Speaking of which, am I right to think then that you can't get the trophy for fully upgrading Joel in the survival/survival+ run since the listening thing doesn't exist here?

has anyone had trophies glitch on them since they downloaded patch 1.01.

id rather not start the SP until it gets patched. since i only have MP, i dont wanna lose my stats if i delete the game data.

Apparently, it's safest to play offline without patch 1.01. You can delete patch 1.01 from game data folder (don't delete anything from the PS3 save folder, those are your saves). It should be marked as something like "Last of Us 1.01". I've been playing without the patch and the only difference I noticed was slightly more pop ins and artifacts.

This is probably a dumb question but, I got the skill shiv sharpening...how do you actual sharpen a shiv?

That's actually a really good question lol. I never thought about that, but would be a huge oversight on ND's part if they force you to upgrade that in another save.

Does it for you. You can now stab people twice with one shiv. Any manual you find automatically does it except when breaking opening doors its still a full shiv

. Also, just use the bow when in doubt.
The bow was my favorite weapon in the game I wish there was an upgrade that let you pick up arrows after using them because its random if they break or not

Oh ok cool, I assumed it would be like upgrading a bat or wooden stick for some reason. Thanks for the info.

So.. the girl's name is Ellie and she looks like Ellen Page. Boy, someone at ND has a crush.
Ellen Page is a cutie. In Super..wow. Just wow. Weird that Ellie, the 14 year old in The Last of Us seemed to act like her.

Game was great. Finished it and the ending was #*$*%)$)$**#&(&$. Should of played it on hard as normal wasn't too difficult.

You can upgrade your melee weapon don't recall when you get that skill
"crafting" is the term in the game. Reminded me of Deadrising but crafting didn't need the use of the workbench. Meelee weapon (bat, pipe, plank) became one hit kills with said upgrade,

Yeah I can already do that in game, I just meant I thought the Shiv Shaprening would be like crafting where you hold down X not an automatic thing, but you cleared that up for me. Thank you.

Yeah ellen page was not happy that ellie looked like her

Before I knew which game was which I actually thought Ellen Page was in The Last Of Us. When I saw she was in Beyond Two Souls I was like who is in TLOU? Lol.
Yeah I was confused also. Even the voice is somewhat like hers but the voice actress for ellie and joel (new ocelot, new ryu hayabusa) was fucking great.

Yeah, I don't think Troy Baker's performance can be praised enough. I've liked him a lot since I heard him as Yuri in Tales of Vesperia but Joel in TLOU was some next-level stuff.

I was confused as well. Had to check up on that remark, Gunnm. If anyone else is interested in Ellen Page's displeasure, here's a link.

"HOLY SHIT JOEL" lol classic.

ON further notes, going to GS today to preorder Beyond: Two Souls. I'm a total sucker for Ellen Page.

The Ellen Page thing is way overblown. She didn't go out of her way to badmouth Naughty Dog, she was asked a question and responded. And frankly the original design for Ellie did look strikingly like Ellen Page, so much so that game sites like Eurogamer initially assumed that she was involved with the production. I love Naughty Dog and I don't think Page's response was out of line at all.

I guess I'll find out... if I ever make it that far.

I'm sure she was upset (as anyone would be if a fictional character looked like them) but yeah, I don't think it was anything more than "they shouldn't have made her look so much like me". As far as I know, there was no major public argument between Page and ND.

I didn't upgrade listening mode at all in my first run since I knew it was going to be disabled during survival/+. So I got a head start on the other skills. It still gave me the trophy once I cleaned up in survival+.

Well, that answers that.

All this talk about Troy Baker is making him the new Nolan North it seems.  Speaking of which, he's in the game as a very important character.  You'd never guess who though from the voice. ;)

Without saying his name NN plays a cannibal :) never would known it was him without watching the Grounded making of video.

I didn't know he was in the game until the end credits rolled and he was listed at the very end (and highlighted too). Even then I couldn't figure out who he was... whenever I see his name, I can only think of Drake.

I made it to Bill's Town and have just over 5 hours at 31%. I actually had to leave some revolver and rifle ammo behind...:whistle2:/ Bah!

^ ammo is not a rare thing in this game. Neither are weapons apparently.
I was specifically referring to the survival mode, where resources are more scarce. For example, I started out with 4 bullets from the pistol and still haven't gotten any since then (still have 3 of the original 4). The only reason I had to leave ammo behind was because I've used 3 bullets thus far... gotta save them bullets for when you get ambushed! :p

Nah, no worries. I know where you're coming from... in normal, there's plenty of ammo and missed shots don't matter. In survival, it's drastically different.

I wish it had some dead island things like going in to every  bag u see or car

Do ammo and weapons become more scarce with higher difficultly?
Yes, but it's dynamic. I found I conserved so much my first survival playthrough that it stunted any drops. Now that I'm ramboing sometimes on my survival+ playthrough, I've found that not only do enemies drop more loot but actual spawns of items are affected as well. What I mean is in addition to item spawns being reduced, ammo will spawn depending on your current cache in the places they normally would. It's a rather genius yet flawed system at times because the level of variance can either reward you (sometimes I'd get drops of 6 rounds of shot while using the shotgun after only using one to kill an enemy) or leave you completely dry.

My recommendation is not to waste your time with infected and just round them up for a molotov/bomb when you can, unless it's all clickers that you can take out stealthily. Runners are just bullshit in this game and stealth breaks too easily with them around thanks to shoddy stealth code. Despite their name, it's actually very easy to run circles around these turds and they love to try and snack on your partners, making it easier to round them up. The AI partner might even kill one for you while they're at it and take no friendly fire so feel free to engulf them in flames lol. When it comes to humans though, try to stealth when you can if there's no way to funnel them into your crossfire. Feel free to just off them with gunfire otherwise if you hold the advantage. You can always retry if you take too much damage or miss a few shots.

I found playing this way was much more enjoyable compared to sneaking around like a wuss. Surprisingly, I've been blowing through the game now (although having a snapshot of enemy patrol paths in my mind now helps) at record pace with almost the exact same amount of ammo I would have had doing nothing but stealth. I'm just six hours in and 50% complete on survival+ which I never would have thought possible until I started experimenting.

Speaking of which, for anyone wondering here's the skinny on new game plus:

- Training manuals persist and don't need to be collected again, thank god

- Tools are yours forever and some items you collected carry over also; weapon parts and supplements

- Collectibles, conversations, et cetera are all tracked on the profile. If you missed something your first game, trophies will pop as soon as you finish collecting what you missed (even the jokes)

I guess they would need to give you ammo/killing tools in some parts... otherwise, you'll be permanently stuck, since there are many parts where sneaking doesn't work.

The good thing about going on a rampage is that you can always re-start (assuming you stay within the area and leave at least 1 enemy) if you use up too much ammo/weapons.

Thank you very much. Now that I think about it I can recall a couple of times when I went back and played through with a different style and item spawns were different. It all makes sense now.

I found it odd too that their hearing was better than the clickers in survival. Then I realized every time they stop and fidgeted was really their "listening" mode despite slowly crouching. It really helped me out by stopping when they did that. The one time I found it ridiculous was in the sewer. They could hear me no matter what as if their listening radius was amplified in that section only.

Also there is new patch.

We are deploying patch 1.02 for The Last of Us today. It will be available globally at 5pm PST. Please download and install as soon as it becomes available in your region.

Changelist for Patch 1.02

Single player
Texture of a phone number on a bulletin board changed

Multiplayer Technical

Host migration has been improved. Losing connection to the host during a migration should occur less often
General crash when leaving multiplayer fixed
Intro camera fix for some introductory cut-scenes
Connectivity issues while playing have been tuned
If you disconnect or lose connection to the host, you will no longer advance a clan day. You will only advance a day if you are kicked from the match, or exit through the menu

Gameplay

Explosion Expert level 2 should be selectable now
The voting time for match selection has been reduced to 15 seconds
“No party” playlist options have been added to both Supply Raid and Survivors, players can only join this playlist solo
Melee against a downed character now uses the same range as normal melee

Just got the platinum today. Glad to hear about the lowered time between matches. Gonna be playing the MP on this for a looooong time lol....

I don't think they ever explained that, did they? FYI, even if Runners stop to listen, you can still keep moving but you have to slow down to the lowest crawl speed possible.

But the sewer part is broken. You have to use arrows to take them out or be ready for an all out battle.
