[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Slightly off-topic but I just got very happy reading about being able to go to McDonalds or BBY and get streetpass things, since I've never gotten one but no one will probably use those still, only to realize that for the last two months BBY has been giving away New Leaf items and I missed three out of four.

!!!

This just reminded me, I got my first real streetpass yesterday, I left my 3DS on while traveling back home from visiting family. It's kinda weird knowing you "met" someone but have no idea where they were.

Before this I've only streetpassed my gf like 20 times.

I am really sick of constantly seeing 3DS GBC ports being offered up as reward deals. How about an SNES or GBA game once in a while.
While I'll probably pick up Mario Golf, I'm with you. Hopefully when the new Zelda for the 3DS comes out this year, we'll get a Link to the Past combo deal, which would be awesome.

So I thought the Mario posters looked cool. Picked up a 22x28 frame which fits two of them perfectly. Frame was only $9.60 after coupon at hobby lobby which was a good price for me.

How does Mario Golf for the GBC compare to the GBA version? I played the hell out of the GBA one.
Did you every play Golf on the original Gameboy? It's that with the RPG bits wrapped around it. Which isn't a bad thing at all since that was arguably the best videogame golf experience until the Tiger Woods series came along.

Are those items BBY only? Because the closest BBY to me is like two hours away. However I think every single town in the world has a McDonalds.

I went with the Zelda CD, though I've yet to play the game.

Still saving my coins in hopes of a golden nunchuk return to go along with my golden Classic Controller Pro.

Have you redeemed a copy of Skyward Sword or Pokepark Pikachu's Adventure?
Not sure about Zelda, but I definitely haven't redeemed the Pokemon title.

Did anyone get Sakura Samurai with their reward? Thoughts on it if you did?

Says "Items only available at BestBuy" when you click on the promo:

http://www.nintendo.com/3ds/nintendozone#

I'm pretty sure only Best Buy. However.... http://tinycartridge.com/post/53377695146/get-new-leafs-best-buy-dlc-without-leaving-home

With a date change on your 3DS you should be able to get all of them.
Guess I'll have to try that.

Edit- Tried it and got the double neck guitar just fine. Unfortunately changing the system date won't let you get the older items. Really wanted that raccoon wall clock. :whistle2:(

Pretty sure that they show up in the catalog if you have ever owned them. So just go to a friends town ask them to let you hold the clock and it should be a available to order in your store after that.

They only offer those to Wii/U in a clear attempt to maintain interest in those systems.
GBA / SNES games on 3DS only exist in the Ambassador program. There's no other way to get them.

How does Mario Golf for the GBC compare to the GBA version? I played the hell out of the GBA one.
the GBA one is basically sequel. It uses the golden sun engine instead of whatever the GBC one uses. If you like the GBA one and you're cool with GBC graphics instead of GBA graphics, you'll likely enjoy the GBC one.

NES Open Tournament Golf from the NES disagrees with you. :)

Right but the point is more that Nintendo could put clearly put such things on 3DS but chooses to put them on WiiU only.

I said arguably. PC players would probably point to Links as well so there were a couple games but it took a surprisingly long amount of time for there to be a consistent quality level for how many bad ones there were in the 90's.

Several people in the Animal Crossing thread have the items. I'm sure if you ask nicely there someone will trade them to you, or even give.

Heard on the giant bombcast you an change the name of your router to the name of the one at best buy and get everything.
Enjoy!

Anyone interested I posted in the deal section also, I have a StarFox VC for the wii game code. My son accidently purchased it last month on the sale they had so I was looking to trade with anyone who wanted this for another VC game for the 3ds or wii/u. Again this is the actual game once we can agree on the game I will send a code to you. thanks. I know this is the wrong area before I get blasted but my 12 year old is a little upset that he already had it honest mistake. Thanks. He like mario zelda metroid..... Let me know if anyone wants to deal.

Thanks

Do they ever refill stock on certain items?
I would like to grab the red system pouch, but they are sold out right now.

I'm pretty sure the 3DS game case everyone loves was briefly back in stock.
Well they should bring it back in stock if it's the one I'm thinking of. Only physical good I've ever stumbled across that I would have wanted from them. Which reminds me that I still haven't selected my platinum reward... >.<

what reward would you guys recommend? I need to pick one soon. I already bought Sakura Samurai when it was on sale a while back. So im leaning twords

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX

Super Mario Land

Super Smash Bros

I have SSB for the gamecube so it seems a bit pointless to get that. Super mario land appears to be just a game boy version of mario... meh. Which i guess makes the front runner Links Awakening DX

confession time: ive never played Link to the Past. I have it but havent played it. Isn't this jsut a port of that? If so would it be ok to make it my first play of that game? It just seems odd that we only get some cruddy old game boy and game boy color ports to chose from. How about some GBA games. Some of the fire emblems or something

so what would you guys suggest?

Links Awakening is Links Awakening and not a port of the old game. The DX meant it is in color I believe, but that is the only difference between the two. I strongly suggest this one, since it's just like the classic Zelda games and has quite a bit of playability.

I was in sixth or seventh grade at the time I played Link's Awakening and was the first game in the series I had played and it was so enjoyable even though I would get stuck on a puzzle for days knowing what I needed but not remembering where to go. It's every bit a full fledged Zelda game and has a similar graphical style but other than the standard Zelda mechanics that's where the similarities to Link to the Past stop. I'm between that and Sakura Samurai so I think it's worth it even having played it before.

I think it has an extra dungeon as well.

Link's Awakening DX is the GBC Director's Cut of the original GB game. Totally unrelated to LttP.

im pretty new to the 3ds eshop. It only gets 3ds/gameboy/gamegear/nes games?

Trying to decide what to get with that $30 promo...kinda want to run through Zelda Seasons again or finish Ages. No SMB3?!

Debating between the Majora Soundtrack and Link's Awakening.  Majora seems like it will be more rare and very difficult to get a hold of later if I want it, but after looking at the artwok and maybe listenign to it once, it will most likely just collect dust.  Link's Awakening will definitely get some use out of it, but I think its only like $5 on the shop, so I can pretty much pick that up on the cheap any time.

I'm torn between Sakura Samurai and Zelda since the physical goods do not interest me.
Don't know much about CN or eshop or whatever, but aren't the chances that those games will be available for CN Coins at some point pretty high? Why not get something physical and sell it or something?

Tempted on that Mario Golf, first real thing that has interested me in a while. Except for SM3 which was on Wii (I only have 3DS). I wish they would roll some more NES titles down on 3DS, even in the eshop. Maybe a few SNES titles too.

I got fire emblem a long time ago, would it still work? to get the other code & the credit?

Anybody want to sell me their Shin Megami Tensei IV code? I would like to get the promotion xD

How many times have Elite games become eShop games?
Well Metroid 2 was one of last years gold games and was available for coins and that was available three months ago I believe (maybe off a month there). So obviously I realize that I'm not picking something limited by any means.

The calendar is worthless (obviously) and how much is a CD in a cardboard sleeve really going to sell for when it's been out there before but with better packaging. So I'll have to get some piece of paper or cardboard and sit on it for however long while hoping it stays in mint condition so I can compete with the hundreds of other people that wind up undercutting each other because they all bought it to sell as well. Even some of the better physical rewards they've given out the past few years aren't selling for very much on eBay.

I don't want any of the physical goods and the hassle of keeping them perfect and then selling them isn't worth the $10-15 they're probably going to fetch. I would rather just have the $6-8 that I might actually get some enjoyment out of at some point.

Yep. It works retroactively.

Here's the thread for buying/selling/trading Club Nintendo codes: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/177121-nintendo-club-game-code-trading-and-selling/

That's my logic as well. I'd never listen to a game soundtrack or hang a game poster, and don't like knick knacks etc. period so it's always a game download or nothing for me.
