Edit...just checked, and all my phantoms need to have licenses renewed. Poop. Any way to have this done? If I get in touch with the owners of the shares, do you think they'd be kind enough to help me out with this?

Try using another Account and play the game. On the bad HDD you might want to run the recovery mode (holding down the power button after x beeps) and run the utilities to check it.

can someone explain to me how a timeshare works? As far as I know, if i download the game from someone's account, they change the password and deactivate the console, but i get to keep the game on my ps3 forever. This is what a phantom is. But how does a timeshare work?

When your timeshare is up, you need to manually deactivate the game, so that the owner can reactivate it.

I was watchin a Divekick stream on twitch and Keits(the dev who made the game) was there, so I asked him if there's gonna be any dlc, he said no, and there is cross-platform online play between ps3 and vita. game runs at a smooth 60 fps.

It's basically a rental that works the same ways as a "resell" slot. For a fraction of the resell price (like .75 cents for a game that would sell for $15), you can play the game for a set period of time (day, week, month) and then you return the slot when you're done. These are really effective if you don't want the game long and don't want to deal with the hassle of reselling. However, this is WAY more risky than any other type of trade, so typically people will only consider CAGs that are known and creditable.

 
thanks all for the info on phantom/timeshare... the reasoning behind it was offered to me in a PM: one can remotely deactivate a console only once in a six month period. I believe that it's because of this time-sharing was born.
