There are quite a few free and free2play games and mods on steam. You can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam game pad looks interesting. I'll definitely check it out at a reasonable price.

Borderlands 2 is frustrating. The shift keys while nice have ruined what makes Borderlands Borderlands. None of the loot I've looted compares to what I get in the shift key chest. The incentive to check chest or drops is gone. It's pretty much ruined the game.

Torchlight 2 has the same effect on me as NyQuil. There is nothing wrong with the game. It's pretty, the character creation is good, modding is simple. I like build of the frost mage. But, I can't put in more than an hour without experiencing a fit of narcolepsy.

Currently playing Magic Diary and can't recommend it enough. It's an anime ripoff of Harry Potter (not a great start to my recommendation). It's a fun game. Likable cliche characters, and the pacing is good. Games like this can drag. But this one moves at a solid speed. It is worth picking up during the winter sale.

took Greed, You are awesome good sir! nice means of spreading the games!

While I'm not left handed, I love the fact that the Steam Controller is symmetrical and with a click in game options, all of the controls can be swapped around to suit lefties better.

Sell your good equipment and don't use any more keys. I had to do that after I used the shift keys and didn't get better equipment for a couple more hours.

Nordic Bundle
Damn held off on Red Faction 1 hoping Nordic would throw that in a bundle along with the newer games. Anyway, most of those games are either mediocre or have been bundled (old THQ IPs). I'd probably be in for $1 on Guild 2.

I played about 45 minutes earlier and have the same complaint about movement. I also thought it was because of being on a boat, but that was as far as I got so I didn't get to see how it felt on land, but it sounds like just something weird with the game. I thought the graphics were ok at times, though I fell through the environment within the first area which doesn't bode well for the rest of the game. I will probably play an hour or so more just to see if anything changes, but so far I'm with you in thinking it's not very good :whistle2:(
I played Dead Island: Riptide last night for about 1-2 hourss or so. Okay, so it really depends on what you thought of Dead Island - this feels like a Big DLC or an Expansion Pack (even though it does stand-alone). To me, it felt like DI:R is more or less, "more of the same".

After the ship tutorial opening area - the first area didn't really feel as interesting as the beach resort and different nowhere as big. Actually, DI:R's first real area felt more like one of the later chapters in DI (original), in the jungles - which is fine, since I liked that area. What I did like was the new defense mission. I hope there's more different mission types, later on.

I loved Dead Island (original), so it's not a bad thing - if you want "more of the same". B/c I like that characters have damage mode and that body parts can be broken from blunt objects and body parts can be cut off - that part for the combat's still as awesome as ever. I just really want MORE out of this franchise, honestly. I want combat to feel more visceral on the KB/mouse, since I'm used to this combat from DI - it should've been tweaked-up more for us KB/mouse users. Of course, I probably should be playing this in "Analog Mode" w/ a Controller, anyways, eh?

We all know the real reason you want it on Steam is because it has cardz ;)

Oh man, if anything could bring Idiotekque out of the woodwork, it's TSW talk. Looks like you already got your answer, but I just have to laugh every time this is brought up and elicits an essay from at least a few of the regulars on its quality
That's b/c the TSW game actually has A LOT to it and it's really good. For a MMO, it doesn't feel line one, in some ways. It feels for me A LOT like a SP campaign for the most part b/c of its emphasis on story-telling, great voice-acting and great characters - except for the fact that others might be also running around and end up helping you on-the-fly b/c they're right nearby. Of course, I ain't counting any of the team-quests you can do w/ others - b/c I ain't done any of those. :p

I thoroughly enjoyed Dead Island, Riptide was worse than the first, the game is a lot more boring compared to the first (plus, what's with starting at level 15? it felt like they wanted me to be overpowered)

Son of a... :!:

I really really hate when Steam turns into an angry bastard and denies you access from the market place. I had to clean up my steam folder (delete everything except Steamapps folder, Userdata folder, and Steam.exe) because of various Steam errors. Restarted. Clicked on Steam.exe, entered special access code, logged in...

Then wham! Steam hits me with a :shame: "You have logged in from a new device or new web browser (BS, I did not! This is the same PC, same IP, same everything!). In order to protect the items in your inventory, you will be unable to use the market on this device for 15 days (or any other device apparently). Assuming nothing further occurs to restrict your access, you'll be able to use the Community Market on Saturday, October 12, 2013 6:03:11 PM." :wall:

Sigh, so fuck lame...

Edit: Silver lining... less time on the market = ...less time on the market! Brilliant!

Definitely not worth $6 for the "BTA" if it's a weekly (too many cheaply bundled Painkiller games for that to make sense), and there's no point paying for just The Guild 2 sans-DLC (the bundle costs the same as buying the DLC alone.)

Guess that's a pass, unless it has a "real" BTA and I get in at $3 or so.

Crucible Pass is packaged with Darksiders 2. You sure this shit is legit?
It does show up separately on the DLC list for the game. (The one you get in the client, not the storefront one.)

On another note, all these big expensive sounding word in this article is sounding like a $100+ price at least [for the Steam controller]. Which is a little bananas.
That's exactly what I was thinking while reading the announcement. A bunch of touch pads and a "high-resolution" touch screen certainly don't sound like cost-control measures.

While I would be interested in trying/owning one of these controllers, I doubt I'll think its worth the price tag... after all, I've never bought a 360 controller because they're usually around (the equivalent of) $45, and - in my mind - that's about $15 too expensive for a controller.

Bundle-In-A-Bawks has a "happy hour" right now where you can get the lower tier for $0.99. It's only gonna run for a few more minutes, and it's gonna be the last one, so if you've been dithering, this is your last chance.

Edit: it's over.
fuck ing 4:30AM.

Kinda sleazy to increase the perceived value of the bundle by touting free DLC.

If that's what they do.

No, the item is included when you buy Darksiders II anyway. Some of their bundled game packs have included these DLC items that come with the game before. This list isn't meant for the public, it's just a list of items that gets activated when you enter the key. The Paradox packs included message board keys for some of their games - and those are always included when you buy the games separately.

That said, I am becoming increasingly annoyed by Humble's recent company offerings. The Paradox pack included tons of games but almost no DLC. So does the upcoming Focus bundle. Now this. It's like companies are agreeing... just so they can rope people into buying the DLC...

SONOFASHAQFU.

The first hit is free, after that it will cost you . . .

{flips the beat to "Pound Cake"}

"Bling and material things ain't everything/Rhymes go internal and external/Like hard-drives/Each verbal brushstroke awoke/All of the Souls/Light and Dark/RIP, For Whom The Bell Tolls/I'm alive in Control/Something like Kendrick Lamar/Not a star/Named Anna/Shout-out to CAG/The Company We Keep/Like Brooklyn, always No Sleep."

I'm completely okay w/them offering games w/out dlc if they're games I want. It at least saves me the initial cost of buying the game.
Unless say a HB offered an Origin Game that say uses BioWare Points.

Then, we can kick and scream. ;)

So far only one claimed. Not even a mention as to lurkers. I guess these are bad enough they can't even be given away. Maybe if I pull out the spoiler tag?

Steam controller looks kinda interesting, but I love my mouse and keyboard too much to ever change to using a gamepad unless the game is broken (e.g. Dark Souls) or boring (Trine 2) without it.

I am obliged to champion Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance out of that allegedly upcoming Humble Bundle.

Not only is it an excellent RTS, you'll get four slightly different singleplayer campaigns and more custom maps than you can shake a stick at.

I'm guessing, like mos of the rest of the bundle, most people already have it.

Can't resist a good RTS! Will be picking up the full bundle as I'm missing quite a few games from it.

Guess you missed when Amazon had official wired 360 controllers for $30 for a few weeks :shame:

I started decoding one, but then my brain started to hurt and I had to stop :headache:

If their moniker is anything to go by, I expect most lurkers have even less dedication. Cool drop though, regardless of the quality of the actual games ^_^

Was about to ask about Supreme Commander as it's the only one I'm very interested in. Thanks for the recommendation, even if I suck at RTS games I can't help but love them, and since I don't own too many it's another on the backlog ;)

I just wanna know when that Steam Controller will be 75% off. ;)
After you buy it at full price to appease the discount gods. Only then will they feel satisfied and rain sales and prices drops down from the heavens for the rest of us :whee:

We thank you in advance for your dedication to the greater CAG cause

I had the opposite experience. I stopped even entering Shift codes, but I'm back up to 40+ keys because all of that purple crap wasn't any better than the orange stuff the bosses drop. Are they putting better stuff in the Sanctuary chest now?

Switching between characters in Trine 2 on KB is a pain, but I can't imagine hitting what you're aiming at with the grapple or creating boxes fast enough is possible with a gamepad.

i just played about 2 hours of riptide. boy am i glad i didnt buy it.

my character always feels like hes walking through mud.

at first i thought it was just cuz the boat was swaying and the wind was blowing, but movement was still sluggish even after i got on the island.

also the graphics are terrible. for some reason i thought this game had good graphics because of the screenshots.

inventory organizing feels real sloppy.

i ran into a cag in coop mode. it was ok, nothing special about it. for some reason the audio started echoing in coop mode though. dude said his mic was off, so i dont know whats up with that.

anyway, uninstalled.

thank you Jake and Ninja for saving me from wasting 2 hours of my life. ;)

No, I actually meant the CAG site update that re-added wiki posts. Is no one else getting garbled pages now in Chrome?
Only when I stumble upon Tebow's blog page. ;)

Buy 2 and have yourself a ménage à trois or you can have a 4-way or 8-way like Mind Link in the following post.

Those things feel more realistic than touching my own nipples.

What do you mean? Like, 4-way or 8-way? Tried Xpadder?

Yeah, I had followed valve's fixes and got locked out of the marketplace, then found a handy program called process monitor which showed that steam was looping when accessing the registry key for my freaking keyboard driver. :hot: Ironically my ip address had changed last week when my ISP switched over to DHCP from a static IP address and I was able to use the marketplace then. lol Next time Steam acts up, I'm running process monitor and forgetting all about Valve's "fixes".

I know this is offtopic but it's late at night and I don't care - and this thread is where most people will likely see this. I've always wondered which payment option is the best when paying for all these bundles I keep buying: Paypal or Google Checkout/Wallet (I rarely pay with credit cards directly since it's a hassle). I dislike Paypal (yes, I still do) and tend to pay with Google when the option is available, but I also want as much of my money as possible to go to the bundlers/developers and not to the payment processor. I've always heard that Paypal is the cheapest option from the merchant's point of view, so I went looking for Paypal's fees and Google's fees for merchants. Based on these:

- The basic fees are the same (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) for low volumes.

- The above means that in general you should pay at least ~$0.32 for the merchant to at least break even.

- For large transaction volumes (HIB-levels) the fees go down for both, but I don't see any huge differences.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled banter.
