The lead actress was annoying. The story was barely different from past horror movies. Nothing about it outside of gore elevated it above your average movie. There was no back story to the characters. The whole we gotta keep her here thing to get her off drugs was stupid and an obvious cop out story wise. The brother's actions/dialogue did not match up to the circumstances, he shouldn't have been defending people who were clearly possessed and fucked up. All it did good was gore. Everything else was below avg to avg.

I liked the remake. On the other hand, quite controversiallly, I thought the original was laughabley bad. Don't see why people like it so much, must be nostalgia. 2 was ok, army of darkness was fun though.
 
Posting a few weeks late on this one, but...

I can't begin to understand why Gravity has a 96 on Metacritic.  It was the most predictable movie I've seen in years, and the attempts at character development felt extremely cliched.  Everything you expect to happen happens, and it happens in such a drawn-out way that it makes Dragonball Z look like a fast-paced thriller.

The first one IS bad, you're right. That's why 2 was made as if 1 never happened, it was kind of a redo. And 2 is the shit, it's one of my favorite movies.

I just don't know what to even say to this. Isn't this why we watch movies? Or have we gone a step back and just admire all the pretty colors?

Anyways, White House Down - 3/5. Good action and premise and it also had some laughs.

No but it's like saying the characters weren't developed in Bad Grandpa. Certain movies are obviously going for something that isn't the normal story, character, pace, etc mission.

Gravity is a marvel in CGI/3D/green screen tech that makes you think you're actually watching people in space. It's a total marvel and no shock it took 4 years to make. No surprise when it's nominated for Best Picture with Bullock getting a Best Actress nomination.

In my opinion it's an Avatar-esque landmark film only way better. I hated Avatar story wise, but obviously Cameron's intent was revolutionary 3D. This was way better and the story is fine. Did I think it was predictable? Sure I guess. But I can say that for tons of classic story-driven movies.

I guess I should avoid it then, don't really care for 3d or the greatest visuals tbh, hated avatar. I thought the story or characters would have been good with all the praise being thrown around.

All I can say is that's it's an astonishing feat of filmmaking and definitely worth seeing if you can appreciate that. I thought the characters were fine.
 
Thor: The Dark World - 4/5- Not much to hate here. Great action, great writing, though the forced love triangle aspect early on felt unneeded. Hemsworth, Hiddleston, Hopkins, and Eccleston were all fantastic in their roles. It's not Iron Man 3, but Marvel continues to remain consistent with the quality of their films. Soundtrack is really rad, though.

2 Guns - 7.5/10

The wolverine extended - 8.5


Surprised by how much I enjoyed the wolverine and 2 guns.

I finally watched and really liked it. I thought it was really funny at times. I think only Trent and his 2 friends and daughter shit on the kid, everyone else was nice to him despite his awkwardness.

When I watched it I had some slight memories of the last time I saw it back around when it came out. I could remember being scared from scenes that I now have to make myself feel a scary feeling in order to make the movie as best as possible. There are also some problems with the writing, especially near the end.

Really? Well that's another story all together. If I were writing a review of it (and I wrote entertainment reviews for four years of my life) I would only talk about two things. The absolute marvel of a feat the movie is filmmaking wise, and Sandra Bullock's lock of an Oscar nom performance.

The story can be summed up in one sentence and the characters give little backstory. That's odd to me those things were praised when they are virtually non-existent IMO.

Well, it's only a one-time showing. Usually that slot is filled with a Digitally Restored Classic Film (such as Risky Business, Matrix, and Grease), a concert simulcast, or a special event like the live Rifftrax the same week.
 
Shadow of the Vampire - pretty fun idea, was an interesting watch after seeing Nosferatu just before. Still, I think the reason I'm so underwhelmed with these films is that I find Count Orlok very silly looking. Oh well.

Paranormal Activity - I really enjoyed the sequences of bedroom footage, cool stuff. The boyfriend was outside the realm of belief as a character though, made the whole storyline pretty goddamn stupid.

Paranormal Activity 2 - Same film and in this case the husband is almost worse than the guy from the original. Again, some fun parts but this one was way more over the top with the paranormal stuff. Didn't like it as much.

The Purge - I think this is competing with The Happening as worst film I've ever seen. Holy shit.

 
Thor 2 had such a self-serving plot and aimed for a lower age audience this time around.  The plot felt muddled and more of a license machine to sell toys than progress character development of one of the more recognizable Marvel superheroes.

Seriously.  A middle-aged man streaking and not wearing pants to help him think?  I don't follow Thor at all, but was this really crucial to the plot in any way?

Yea, Selvig being crazy just didn't feel right, especially since Hawkeye didn't go crazy after his hypnosis. I also wish we got an explanation as to why he and Jane left SHIELD.

Hopefully there is an Extended Edition which restores all the cut backstory for Malakieth and the Dark Elves, as they were pretty bland in the movie proper.
 
Europa Report. 5/5. On Netflix streaming now. I want to own the Blu Ray though.

Its a niche movie.

If you like Sunshine, you'll enjoy this. Its in the same vein, but with a found footage/documentary point of view.

I was worried because of the 3 star viewer ratings, but I believe that most people just won't understand it, much like Sunshine. If you think Sunshine is confusing or slow, you won't like Europa Report.
