Sooo I got a new, cooler, better paying job, and yesterday I put in my two weeks notice. Today I decided I didn't feel like going in tomorrow, so I decided I wanted to use the rest of my vacation time to take off of my block shift from 3-midnight tomorrow and 8 am to 5 pm Saturday. I found and coverage and shizz, but for some reason my boss still had a problem with it. I basically told her to shove it as politely as I could, and I won! So I have off. HAH. Anyyways, wanted to spread the good fortune around, and tonight, when I ended up buying Overlord from Gamersgate, I bought an extra gift copy...if anybody wants it, send me a PM. BTdubbs I'm only going to give it to somebody who actually posts here and shizz, so if you're a lurker plz don't pm me k fanks? 

Edit: Overlord is taken. Stick around though, if there's a decent deal whenever this Eador thang finally goes away, I might decide to buy an extra copy again ;)

I tried it on and off for a few months a couple of years back, and it *is* a good game, but as the limey said, it was just too frustrating to get near the end of a level and find out that you can't kill the last few monsters or the boss. If you have the patience to learn exactly what every item does and plan ahead, you can get better at it (I remember quite a few guides) but it was too much like chess for me and, though I like puzzlers, I didn't have the patience for it.

Maybe I'm just too new to the thread but I thought the weekend steam sales have some potential. Kerbal Space Program is on sale. Its not the cheapest its ever been, but it is the biggest discount they've ever had on it... Guessing it had a price increase at some point in its life.

Payday 2 could be fun... Waiting for a bigger sale might mean the game's MP is all but dead.

Skullgirls, its still sort of odd to see fighting games on the PC... Really no real strong feelings one way or the other.

Grabbing the free games from the GoG event has been impossible. I was ultimately clicking the space whenever the title switched just in case it was a free one, but that must be what everyone was doing because I clicked Miasmata before the graphic loaded and it was already sold out. (Only 40 copies, too.)

That is a bit of a disappointment... Though it also appears to be only about 6 hours long with just an avg story.

Looks like my first thought of Wish Listing it for a later sale was the right choice.

PD2's community consists mostly of high level people endlessly farming the same few maps over and over again for drops. I stupidly pre-ordered the game before finding out that you will pretty much never unlock all of the weapon mods short of investing many hundreds of hours farming. My advice is to catch it + dlc for $5 in next year's fall sale, hopefully by then the devs will have pulled their head out of their ass and ditched the random drop crap.

Good info to know thanks. :D (Granted, I've played some games with horrendous drop rates on items, Marvel Heroes Too Human, and enjoyed them... So its not a deathblow for me... but it does make me consider the original title more.

Does the first payday have the same random item drop mechanic?

 
No, the original PAYDAY you simply unlock weapons/abilities by gaining levels in one of four 'classes'. It isn't a class based game though. You can completely customize your load-out each time. So if you max out your levels in each, everything is unlocked. Where as in PD2, there are tons of lvl 100 PD2 players who still have tons of weapon enhancements they may never even get a drop for. They have been tweaking things over time, and I still hold out that they will eventually ditch a lot of the shitty design decisions they made for PD2.

And drop rates belong in ARPGs, MMORPGs and the like, not this style of game.

 
Deadfall Adventures(Uncharted fps shooter) is out now. Looks kinda fun, plus CheapyD got it so u know its good!

Cool, thanks for the extra info. :)

As for drop rates... I think they can be successful in any style of game so I wouldn't pigeonhole them into only certain game types... That's a good way to stunt growth and innovation. Now I've never played Payday 2 so I cannot comment on it, obviously, but one of the best Maddens I've ever played had a card set in it and its basically an item drop system. Get the card and you unlike the player for free agency. Other cards for unlock dream cards and/or throwback cards. It added an insane amount of replayability which is the crux of any good item drop rate.

You might want if CheapyD got it for free... Its reviews are not really all that great.

 
Okay, Newegg has an LG BD-Burner OEM (WH14NS40) for $49.99 + free shipping after promo code  EMCWWWR44

I've been meaning to buy a BD-Burner for years. Would be nice to get some of these big 20GB+ games onto a BD-disc or two (like say Max Payne 3 PC).

It's OEM, so I don't expect cables (I do have those) and I don't expect BD software (need to look into that).

So, here's a bunch of questions:

1. Anybody have this EXACT BD-Burner especially or anything similar? If so - thoughts please?

2. What's good out there for BD-playing software? And how cheap/expensive are they? And what are you using in particular?

3. What's good out there for BD-burning software these days? And what are you using for this?

4. How cheap/expensive are blank BD discs? And what do brand/type do you use and like?
