Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

All the TSW extra content is bought/downloaded through the games' own client, neither Steam nor Amazon can put it up for separate purchase. The Massive Edition on Steam includes all but the latest update (Scenarios) and includes a code that signals your FunCom account to have bought all the present DLC. As for whether you should buy the extra DLC now or later, since the Massive Edition went on sale for a great price this last sale, if you aren't sure then wait. Pick up the DLC later at a discount, or if you sub to the game, they give you enough credit every month to purchase it that way. Give the game a try (I can send you a trial, see Sig) and if you like the overall feeling of the game and the story structure, then purchase the Massive Edition. There's no harm in waiting if you aren't sure, but whether you should buy it now or not is not a question we can answer for you. It depends on whether you enjoy the game enough to continue the story. If you enjoy the base game, the DLC (issues) if definetly a "must buy". :)

Once you accept my friend invite I can add you.

<asheskitty doesn't need to tell anyone who asheskitty is>

Thanks for actually posting a link to your profile.

Note to others: <hint> <hint> ;)
Added you and crimsontribe, and accepted the group request, thanks a lot you too ^^ i'm hoping to see some announcements to start playing with you guys.

No, I don't mean editors choice credit, credit I've gotten before for buying games on amazon. I thought maybe some of my credit was from the 2k deal but no I already spent that, no clue what I can actually spend this on.
Oh that? Most of that is for F2P games, you should ignore it.

All the Pizza Dude talk and yet no one posted this?

Check the group announcements / Discussions... there's Roll Call thread for announcing Defiance names (and finding the others).

Need to decide if I want to blow $5 on Crysis 3 today... given the pricing history of Crysis 1 & 2 feel doubtful I'll see this price for a long while.  Being on Origin, I might forget I have it.

Not sure if anyone uses Bing (I know .. I know ... its MS) search or not but they have a rewards system for using it.

As you use the search engine (and other things)  you gain points. These points can be used to buy gift cards. Two of them are $3 and $5 Amazon cards. I used my points yesterday and within 30 mins had my $5 Amazon gift card. Perfect for the EC sale.

If anyone decides to sign up you can use the "Refer-A-Friend" link in my sig Help me get more points :)

If referals are not allowed I will remove it .. did not see anything in the rules.

anyone know if Amazon will give steam keys for Doctor Who: The Adventure Games? it was in a bundle forever ago, with a bunch of other adventure/casual games.

I'm asking since groupees has it for .50 cents at the moment and will be giving out steam keys once they become available, I don't really want to buy it from them if Amazon is going to give us steam keys.
I would pay the 50 cents to Groupees. They clearly state on the site that you will get the keys. Worth 50 cents I'd think to be sure to get them.

Well I did like TR2013...

See my prior QQing about C1 Max never being less than $7.50 while C2 has been bundled and C3 is $5... I've been wanting C1.
C3 does NOT have platforming & "light" puzzle-solving like TR 2013.

If you liked Crytek's Far Cry 1, you should play Crysis series.

You basically know what you're getting then: i.e. a killer FPS loaded w/ amazing technical graphics.

Don't expect great dialogue, writing, and voice-acting here.

Crytek is basically the new Id Software, more or less.

EDIT:

I have never played crysis 1 or 2, so that post isn't very helpful

But this one is! Video games never have weapons or graphics or colors nowadays!

That's the type of groundbreaking insight I expect of you, mysterd.
Being a comedian by asking about comparing a FPS like Crysis w/ a pinball game Pinball FX 2 = expect a comedic and sarcastic response right back at you.

EDIT 2:

what if i like Madden 08? Should I get it?
Well...do you like Lost Planet? ;)

Why do you keep comparing C3 to games I've never played?

Though seriously, lately I've been hearing about a few GMG deals after they done gone. It would be really nice if people would post about them in the GMG thread or here when they're still live.
Agreed. Even better would be if the GMG site wasn't terrible for finding sales not featured on the homepage. That stupid 5-page search limit.... :wall:

Thanks! I hate people who post like that. I got BF4 for only $2 (after using up my gift cards) ...yeah.
"But it's not real money!" :dunce:

u dont even know wat it is
No matter, is free!

^_^ Normally it's not a problem since the best deals are clearly in the top-10 sellers... or their Blog used to be useful for seeing the sales they're proud of.

and that's not real human food. ;)

Maybe you should play some more FPS's. ;)

Crysis series is not easy to compare w/ other FPS's b/c it's shooter that can be played in a very stealth-like manner; you can scout enemies out and tag them before you go in and attack.

Also, its AI is often better, smarter, and slicker than many other games, as well - it's one of the things Crytek always has done well.

EDIT:

Crysis 1 does have a SP demo - go give it a shot:

See if it's your cup of tea.

If lost planet is my favorite game will i like the Crysis series?

I have gotten several PM's asking about the details of the points given every month via Funcom if you carry a subscription into The Secret World and whether they should get the Massive Edition or not. Here's the info on the current subscription model for those interested:

Screen_Hunter.jpg

There is also a $200 lifetime subcription plan. I will be buying the Lifetime after my current sub expires in 3 months. I agree for most people a sub isn't necessary at all, but if you love the game and put the kind of time I do into it, if you figure how many months you'll play, and the fact you never have to buy DLC again, it's a great deal. $200 divided by just 2 years (pretty mild by MMO standards) is just $8.33 a month. If it goes 5 years, that's $3.33/month. WOW has been going for 10 years, that would be $1.66/month.

I'm not an FPS fan (BL1/2 isn't really an FPS). If I wanted to try, I'd play C2 (owned from HEAB). FPS are aggressive and violent games...

<trys to decide whether to resume Guacamelee or resume Manhunt>

I'm just pullin your leg ;)

I actually have C2 from the EA humble bundle. For some reason Crysis has never really interested me though, so it's a bit far down the totem pole on my backlog.
C1 + Warhead have combat often more so in jungles and alien-ships than the other games.

The no-gravity alien-ship combat was some of my favorite in a Crysis series - which is in C1.

C2 is a bit more vertical for combat - b/c there's a fair deal of combat within and around big-huge buildings in NY.

In C2, combat spaces are often not as wide-open as they are in C1, C: Warhead, and C3.

C3 does a pretty good job of combining ALL of the elements of C1 + C2 together in one game.

If you like technically gorgeous-looking linear FPS's and don't want to care much about story, Crysis series is your meal ticket.

If you don't care for FPS's, I don't think Crysis series will convert you into a fan of the genre.

While it does have better AI and can be played a bit more stealthy and tactical than other FPS's - it's still first and foremost a FPS.

You're right - BL1/2 ain't really FPS's. They're a hybrid of ARPG's and FPS's.

It's not so bad when they only have a few games on sale, but it's horrible during big sales when I go looking for DLC and "hidden gems."

All this talk about Crysis 3, did I miss any opinions on the DLC that is also on sale?   I have had the base game for a long time now, but don't know anything about the DLC for it.
