Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

THis is way sexier than any other pics you've uploaded

Awesome generosity cyrus386.

I was thinking about this the other day, as it's been about a year since I've been truly-active on CAG as well. I'm more of a consumer of information than a participatory patron of message boards, but for whatever reason CAG feels like home. I've loved the varying opinions on Steam games, bundles, information on patches/fixes, general discussions and sarcasm/humor. It's quite relevant to say the community has been instrumental in helping me not only hold out on buying games cheaper, but amassing a backlog that anyone with a few lifetimes to spend gaming would be filled with rapturous delight.

So thanks fellow CAGs! :grouphug:

Send me a PM if you've got a case of the Mondays and/or would just like one of these Steam games below:

-Sanctum: Collection

-Postmortem: One Must Die

-Overlord and Overlord Raising Hell

-Thief Deadly Shadows

-Papo & Yo

-Little Inferno

-Driftmoon

-Closure
Great to see others jumping on the giveaway bandwagon. I feel it necessary to mention that a big part of what inspired me to give back was the generosity of other forum members toward me. I was amazed, going through my PMs today, to see that no fewer than eight people have tossed keys my way in just the last couple months. Most of them have my whole collection and then some, so it's hard to give back to them - thus I'm paying it forward, the way many of them were. I love it.

More games to come tonight!

I'd believe it only because L4D3 is the one game I think Valve would actually make given the popularity of the first two. Wonder if it would release for Xbone.
No Steam Client on Xbone, I don't see why they would release it on Xbone. Also source engine is so lightweight that it runs fine on ordinary (non-gaming) computers.

On a related not to Drakensang: TRoT it was apparently stealth added on Steam to non-NA regions a little while back. That gave me some hope that maybe someone was awake at DTP and might add Venetica and Grey Matter at some point, but so far still crickets on that front.
How typical, we've been left out again.

Hmm weird. I didn't know that. The SteamBox is seriously lacking is exclusives.
Yeah, Valve has released most of the important Source engine games on console (mostly on 360/X-Box). Even the original Counterstrike got a original X-Box release.

None of the new CS games though or even the Day of Defeat games are on console. Funny enough, Team Fortress 2 is as part of the Orange Box.

CS: GO is on 360 and PS3 as a downloadable title.

Would a SteamBox exclusive even be good idea for any publisher to commit to? And would Valve benefit from splitting up their own PC market dominance by having games not available to Steam PC users and SteamBox users? I mean right now, the userbase is totally unknown, and the price of the SteamBox ranges from $500-$6000 (!!), I wouldn't be surprised if the only exclusives would be inhouse (Valve) or indie. Most potential owners are in the "wait and see, do I really need this" mode, and most publishers are in the "wait and see, is it even going to sell" mode. Also, I doubt Valve would risk limiting their profit with SteamBox only exclusives by not releasing their games on PC\console either.

I remember when it seemed anyone who played video games was classified as a geek or nerd.. Boy how times change. I must be old.
Nerds are taking over.

Which console has succeeded in gaining a foothold without exclusives? If we want to have a rational discussion consider a steambox priced the same as consoles. (There's no Steam Linux games that really require more than $500 of gaming PC.) And obviously that publisher would be Valve.

You're talking in Valve's point of view, in trying to sell the SteamBox, of course they need exclusives. The question I was asking is in a publisher's point of view, why they would limit themselves by selling on the Steambox instead of PC in general.

I understand it would be Valve, if anybody, releasing an exclusive to the SteamBox, since it is their baby. But my point is they risk alienating their Steam (on PC) userbase by walling them off and limiting their profit on the game selling to just SteamBox owners.

Oh man, Lords of Football. Such possibilities.

I've just spent 10 minutes snooping around it - it's basically Soccer Sims. There's no official licences an all players/teams are made up (I chose to play as my local team, the Hull Bats) but there's an editor and everything. Moreso, your players all have silly traits (compulsive gambler, wine buff etc.) which appear to be a bit random.

This could be a lot of fun. I'll see about knocking up a BGCQ roster. I'd love to know what flaws it assigns to Fox.

I think we use different logics. ;)

Also I'm rather surprised by the lack of a Z-game... all my Z-games are bundled.
A friend from another forum read my blog and angrily bought me Zombie Driver HD. So now I have to play it.

I'm not sure if I should be upset or if I found a diabolical way to get people to buy me free games.

Because like many premiere exclusives they'd need to be financially compensated for remaining exclusive to the platform. I wasn't saying anything about 3rd party pubs though.

You can't even have a real Steambox "exclusive" anyway. Since SteamOS is just a Linux variant and is available for free, if Valve released a game as "Steambox only" any smart PC owner would just throw SteamOS on a thumbdrive and play it on their existing computer.

Valve has no reason at all to do a SteamBox exclusive. It makes no freaking sense at all, it goes against their Steamplay push, and it limits their sales. They are not selling steam boxes, so there is no advantage to doing a steambox exclusive at all. Max they will do is give some TF2 hats to people who use the SteamOS.

I agree. That's why Valve would more likely release a Steam-Only exclusive instead, but then what is the point of getting a Steambox when you can just get the game on Steam on PC. Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in SteamOS/Box in general, but it just seems Valve will have a hard time convincing their aimed demographic that they should purchase the hardware, considering their aimed demographic probably already has a computer capable of running Steam already.

Edit: But if their controller turns out nice, I'll buy one of those. lol

Because they released L4D1 and 2 for the 360. Has nothing to do with Steam or computers :)
I still think the tension between Microsoft and Valve would make it unlikely to see another of their games on the X1, at least in the near future. They had a brief tryst with Sony, but that didn't go very far after the Portal 2 cross-play. I'd be very surprised if they released L4D3 on consoles, but it would obviously be in their best interest from a profits viewpoint to do so so who knows.

Anyway we both know Gaben can't count to three so it will never happen anyway.

Nerds are taking over.
Nerds HAVE taken over.

The tension between Bill and Gabe will never go away.  Especially with Gabe declaring war on Windows.  And it makes sense.  When you have 'God money' like Gabe does (not as much as Bill I'm sure but still quiiiiiiiiite a bit) your only real 'challenge' left in life is to slay a giant.  Taking a large hunk out of the captive Windows user base (at least the gamers) is sort of a legacy thing to shoot for.

Then why'd they bother to do the SteamOS thing at all?

(I know my answer, but just something to consider. This a a rhetorical question.)
Trying to reach wider audience and have a dedicated gaming OS, optimized for gaming. Also a "backup" in case Microsoft goes to the "Apple Way" with the closed system and all.

The key here is that their are trying to expand the audience. Not limit it.

This is a LONG post (summary at bottom) and this is not a review on the Steam Machine (will come later when I get time) but since people are talking about SteamOS, here are my thoughts:

Microsoft has currently abandon PC Gaming and has focused their money on a more closed "Apple-like" environment in consoles with the Xbox brand. Furthermore, you can look at their OS design in Windows 8.1 to see how much Microsoft is trying to be "like Apple" with focus on tablets (which are inherently closed-systems hardware-wise) and integration of the "Metro design" around their different products (smartglass, Win8 computers, Win8 phone, and Xbox).

In essence, one can easily see long-term that Microsoft's strategy is to close out the PC environment despite the open nature of the platform. The Windows App Store included with every Windows 8 machine and the shutting down Games For Windows Live tells you what Microsoft is thinking about PC Gaming in general.

While there is lots to criticize about SteamOS, one has to remember past history and remember Half-Life 2 and how it introduced us to Steam. First generation of Steam sucked. When Steam came out, it was an awful  piece of DRM that didn't offer anything back to the consumer. But one has to remember that Valve is a software company and that Steam eventually took over PC Gaming ever since Microsoft had abandon it. I don't even know if my Gamestop sells PC games now (or even back then). Without Steam and Valve's influences with sales on digital games, one could argue that PC gaming (and indie development) would not be as prevalent as it is today. With the advent of gaming on smartphones, new consoles, and tablets, people have been declaring PC gaming "dead" for years.

Now SteamOS, it needs a lot of work but it has potential. More importantly, it give developers an incentive to develop for Linux (an inherently open OS). For example, developers are still using DirectX despite how outdated it is because of how integrated it is with Microsoft OS. Better APIs could be used/developed if only there is a platform to support it. No one is suggesting that SteamOS is going to replace one's OS but its main purpose is to give developers and publishers a starting point on Linux. No one currently thinks Linux OS when one thinks about PC gaming, but that could maybe change in the future. (I certainly didn't predict how important and widespread Steam and digital distribution was to gaming).

I haven't started on my review of my time with the Steam Machine and there are things I'm going to save for the review but there are a lot of cool thing being implemented on SteamOS. The concept of In-Home Streaming seemed awesome to me which I tried using in on the Steambox and seeing how it could make my Windows-only games work on Linux (without WINE) was interesting (I'll detail its drawbacks in a later Steambox review). Again, I don't want to get too much on Steam Machine and just want to give thoughts on the SteamOS.

SUMMARY: SteamOS is immature but has potential. Give it time. Valve is rich, has smart people working for it, and have changed the PC gaming landscape before with Steam and has the potential to do it again. The Steam Machine itself can fail (companies can stopping making and selling dedicated boxes), but that doesn't necessarily mean failure of the SteamOS because ALL PCs have the potential to be Steam Machines.

So, I know we have a PC Forum, but no one checks it so I think I'll ask you nerds here.

I bought a new case to move all my old components and I have a GTX 460 768MB.  Unfortunately, since it has the power connectors at the top, the case won't close!  I plan to run it as is for now, but am going to order a new one eventually since I want my case to close eventually.

I am on a strict budget ($100 or less) and these are the two cards I am considering:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121799

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127687

So from what I read the 7770 is probably a lot better?  But the R7 240 isn't horrible?

I know my card is like 3+ years old so would even the R7 240 be a big improvement over it?

And do any of you guys have any other recommendations for something under $100?  I obviously don't expect to play the latest and greatest.  Only requirement is to either be low profile or have the power connectors on the side (not the top).

Are you also the prince of Nigeria?

How many of you are there? Can't you ask somebody else for help for once?
Well, that's the funny thing. I am the last surviving heir for the throne of Zamunda, but I just need $10,000 to pay for the lawyer to process the paperwork and inherit bazillions. That's where you come in.

I would gladly give you 10,000, but I currently have that much money. I can wire over the 3,268.71 in my bank account to help in the meantime. Tomorrow I will go out and sell all my possessions and wire over what ever else I make.

Seriously though quit being a pussy and just buy a titan.

RPS: So Then, Why Should You Buy A Steam Machine?

One weapon that Valve will absolutely keep holstered, however, is the ever-arbitrary exclusive. If a game comes to SteamOS, it’s on Steam – and, via Windows streaming, vice versa. So no, you don’t need to worry: Half-Life 3 (if it descends from on-high in our lifetimes) won’t immediately be chained up in SteamOS’ dungeons.

“Would that make all of our customers happy? I don’t think so. We still want you to play Half-Life 3 or whatever game we bring to our customers. We want everyone to enjoy it. So Valve would never [make games exclusive to SteamOS] because that would upset our customers. It would be very shortsighted on our part,” Gerber confessed.

“I think it would make our hardware partners happy if we would do something like that, but Valve puts the customers first. Even when we don’t respond directly to customers, even when we’re frustrating, we’re paying attention to our forums and threads on Reddit. So yeah, we wouldn’t [make anything exclusive]. We wouldn’t do that.”

That will not do. Do you not have any relatives you can rob or kill to acquire the additional money? Or quite possibly I could send you a $25,000 check and you could cash it and send me $20,000 and keep $5,000 for your trouble?

Fixed

To be serious though, even with my experience building PCs it would take some time or money to build a micro-ATX PC like the Steambox beta. I really like the case they used for it and although they do sell micro-ATX cases, I haven't found one as small as the Steambox. There are reasons why some people buy Alienware, Falcon, and Origin PC instead of building their own. Sometimes a professionally built PC with a custom case looks better.

How about you send me the check, then I will murder all of my relatives, steal their money, and mail you that also?
