 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

i just recently started watching that show. I like the show a lot, it reminds me of the Heavy Metal: The animation --- i have to picked up

If you like older TV Shows, Costco always has a bunch of boxsets usually cheaper than Amazon. They just had Black Adder and Fawlty Towers Complete Sets for $19.99, almost half what Amazon wants for them.

If you do like it though you'll have make sure to pick up S3 & 4 as well afterwards. The set you bought only contains S1 + 2, and was published by ADV at the time. Later Funi picked up the license and did S3 + 4, so it's a separate release from the set you purchased. S3 + 4 are way shorter though, and both combined are only about 8 episodes (6 for S3 and 2 for S4). Not sure if you knew what you bought isn't the full series, but just in case you didn't.
Thanks for that, I'll probably pick it up for under $10.00 sometime.

I'm pretty sure mine did as well. I took it out because part 1 didn't have a slipcover though.
Michiko & Hatchin or any Funimation release with a box (two parters) have Part 1 with no slip and part 2 with a slip (pertaining you bought it soon after it's release). I think I ended up getting rid of the slip from Steins;gate P2 but kept them in Hellsing Ultimate/M&H. They fit but just barely.

Oh I'm aware. I'm way too addicted to those pretty boxes not to be. haha

Picked up Ponyo, Howls Moving Castle and Totoro blus at Costco for $17.99! Happy about that.
If I was a member I would be all over those blu-rays and Kiki's Delivery Service! I have never even been to a Costco.

I thought Steins;Gate's slip was one of those DVD-size ones.
That is correct sir.

I found something interesting on Amazon.uk for preorder that I wanted to let you guys know about. They have a listing for both a special and regular edition of Gurren Lagann on blu ray. They're currently 88 and 51 pounds respectively. That's an awful lot of money, but even if the price doesn't go any lower it is still sizably cheaper than the Aniplex set.

Of course, you will need a region free player.

For those looking for a region free player, Amazon is currently selling multi-region Sony BDP-S5100 3D blu-ray players for 106.53. This is an awesome price for a multi-region player by a major manufacturer and direct from Amazon. The BDP-S5100 also has great reviews and is considered one of the best streamers. It's temporarily out of stock, but it can still be ordered for fulfillment once they get more in.

Thanks for posting that link. I've been using the Seiki one for awhile, but I question its long term durability. $100 for a Sony one is a great deal so I ordered one. I'll keep it as a backup until my other one craps out (or until I put its terrible remote in the microwave and bury the melted plastic). :D

Do keep in mind that Manga region locks nearly all of their releases. That's why I'm waiting for Funi's assumed US release of Bebop and Code Geass on blu instead of importing.

I have usually just played BD's on my Playstation though with expensive Aniplex titles and stuff like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, a region-free player does seem tempting.

Anyone know if you still get the rose ring from rightstuf when you order all 3 utena dvds sets?

I read on the forums you could buy the ring directly over the phone but I think it was a goof up?

Only reason I would want one (or multiples of rings) is for a future cosplay idea. But yeah, just curious.

I havent copped those dvds yet in hopes the blu-rays will someday come to america but from a few google searches, i dont think thats ever going to happen sadly.

But while im on the subject of the blu rays, would it be possible to download some sort of files onto your hard drive (using ps3 as an example) so you can add english subs to the japanese blu rays?

They stopped offering the ring during the 12+ sale, so not sure if it's still available or not.

During the sale they didn't even change out that the ring was not included, but I guess not enough people complained for them to take it down, so they just left it as is.

Probably not though.

There are already Blu-ray rips floating around out there with the subtitle track and dub (though nobody in their right mind would watch it with that dub) added. But c'mon, man, get those DVDs! You have the username, you have the avatar, you need to own these!

You aren't the only one holding out hope for the Blu-rays to make it to America, but since RightStuf has yet to dabble in the format, it's hard to say if it'll ever happen.

The ring isn't worth it. It's rather cheap metal with a rose embossed in it. Unless you are female with very thin hands, it won't fit anyway.

Interesting. I got the ring when I ordered on Nov 27. Guess I just made the cut-off.

Edit: Even more interesting: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-Black-Rose-Utena-Ring-/271383305980?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f2fb49efc

November 27th was the start of the third wave, but it was technically not part of the 12+ sale yet, just the pre-launch. Pew pew! :D

Basically as the 12+ started to come out was when more orders started to be made as people just had sets sitting in their cart waiting to order everything at once as each day came out, so more and more sets were ordered, and eventually the rings stopped being included with the orders. Some people were sadface in the thread when they found out, and some people were sadface when they saw the quality of the ring that was sent to them, so it may or may not have even been worth it. *shrug*

I still have mine sealed since ordering them from rightstuf and it was a blind buy for me.I know nothing of the series and still bought it all because of square and someone else.

Have you seen any the movies or side stories? Are they any good? The standard edition comes to about $70 which is on par to buying a 2 part release from Funimation. I'll probably pre order and hope it drops again between now and release date.

What are people's thoughts on the Eureka 7 BD re-release coming in April? $30 + member discount for a 26 episode LE seems nice though I have never seen the series before (I was never much of a mecha fan until recently).

maybe,so what are your top 5 animes of all time Kirin?
This is actually really hard for me. Not including films, um...

1. Revolutionary Girl Utena

2. Azumanga Daioh

3. Princess Tutu

4. Read or Die / R.O.D The TV

5. Wolf's Rain

But there are several shows that might rotate in and out of that. For example, I love the crap out of Evangelion, Madoka, Escaflowne, Monster, and Cowboy Bebop, but I'm a little burned out from watching them too often.

Huh, maybe I should have said something about needing a region free player. ;)
