 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

This is actually really hard for me. Not including films, um...

1. Revolutionary Girl Utena

2. Azumanga Daioh

3. Princess Tutu

4. Read or Die / R.O.D The TV

5. Wolf's Rain

But there are several shows that might rotate in and out of that. For example, I love the crap out of Evangelion, Madoka, Escaflowne, Monster, and Cowboy Bebop, but I'm a little burned out from watching them too often.
What's the average release date for all of those? 90's? I don't think I've seen you say anything positive about a recent anime :p

I believe Kirin did say Madoka was one of the favorites too... that show was pretty recent. ;)

What are people's thoughts on the Eureka 7 BD re-release coming in April? $30 + member discount for a 26 episode LE seems nice though I have never seen the series before (I was never much of a mecha fan until recently).
I think it's a bit too lengthy at times, and Renton is probably the cousin of Shinji Ikari except with (surprisely) even more whining. Yes, he's not whining the entire time but I think the rest of cast sort of balance everything out. A good 3.5/5 anime for me.

As for the BD version, I have no idea on if that is from an HD master from Japan or a 480p remaster from Funimation. I sold my E7 DVDs last semester so if they turn out well (will wait for Blu-Ray.com review too) I may double dip on them in a few months.

Thanks! I did not think about it before though I am not a big fan of 420p remasters. I am just not a fan of the huge black bars that keep the aspect ratio 4:3 on a BD.

DVD or bluray? I ordered mine on the 25th and its still on backorder >.<
The bluray.

I ordered mine on the 19th and it was on backorder until last Tuesday. The only thing I still have on backorder is the Kokoro Connect OVA.
That's funny. My order had Kokoro Connect OAV backordered, which they shipped to me last week. Did they just randomly split up orders instead of going by first come, first serve?

For those looking for a region free player, Amazon is currently selling multi-region Sony BDP-S5100 3D blu-ray players for 106.53. This is an awesome price for a multi-region player by a major manufacturer and direct from Amazon. The BDP-S5100 also has great reviews and is considered one of the best streamers. It's temporarily out of stock, but it can still be ordered for fulfillment once they get more in.

BTW, this is down to $96.53. I reordered mine.

Tempting, but I'm not entirely sure what I'd use it to play--I own all of Gurren Lagann already and Blue Exorcist doesn't interest me...I guess Madoka Magica? I don't know if that one series is worth plopping down ~$100 just to watch it at a more affordable price--heck, it might be the same, if not cheaper, just to get the Aniplex U.S. releases.

Also, Robotics;Notes Part 1 (non-LE) is down to $19.96 for preorder at Amazon. Is that worth a blind buy?

I would say it is worth it if you aren't super OCD about not having the LE box. From what I hear the series is decent but has mixed reviews.

Granted, I want one also for non-anime blurays I import. For example, the Jungle Book steelbook from Zavvi is Region B. This way I won't have to double dip in the future. I can watch some of them on PC, but the menu never works, and so I can't watch anything other than the feature film. Also, now I won't have to worry about my Frozen 3D import will be region free or not.

Plus, didn't Europe get Cowboy Bebop on bluray?

europe did get cowboy bebop on blu, but you could just wait when funimation releases it on blu in a nice edition

I know most don't like the price of previous installments, but for those interested, Gundam Unicorn ep 7 is up for pre-order at Right Stuf.

So uh, Robotics Notes S1 is up for pre-order for $20 on Amazon which is either a great deal or the show sucks.

I ordered one just in case it's the former.

There's been plenty of stuff from the last five years that I've enjoyed - it's just not top-five material, with the possible exception of Madoka. Off the top of my head: Penguindrum, Attack on Titan, and Chihayafuru. And averaging those top five out puts me around 2001-ish, I think.

I ordered one, too, just in case. ;)

Is this A Zombie? Dvd/Bluray just showed up as giving the extra 10% GotAnime discount, so I added it to my cart. It looks to be pretty awesome!

I watched the Evangelion 1.11 BR that I got for Christmas and it looks a whole lot better than the original, but I don't know how I feel about an anime series being crammed into movies. They always seem incredibly rushed.

Movie 2 splits off from the series half-way through and Movie 3 starts with a time skip, so these are essentially all new.

EDIT: Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 5 is up for pre-order at Amazon. It's actually 3 volumes instead of 2 and will include 7 discs. What else is being included besides the KC Grand Championship arc and the Millenium World arc? The 4Kids-made miniseries Capsule Monsters!

Yeah, I know that. New or not, I'm just curious if they can fit the story into a 4 movie series without it being too rushed. (I believe there is going to be 4 total?) Regardless, I will still watch them.

Well, Movie 2 pretty much skips everything from the middle of the series, essentially going from Episode 9/10 all the way to around Episode 20 or so (I forget exactly which episode Eva Unit 03 appeared in). And the end of the movie pretty much cancels out the rest of the episodes, so only about 1/3 of the original episodes were even used in the movies.

EDIT: Heh, on Amazon's pre-order page, they have DBZ Season 3 as the page image for "Comedy."

EDIT x2: Ah, noticed Maiden Japan is re-releasing Nadia on Blu-ray. Nice.

Chihayafuru is great. Hope it continues to have more seasons. I'm not sure if anyone watched it since it's about an obscure Japanese game/sport that Americans don't know about.

This is a bit misleading, you're making the UK sets sound like they're junk. They're both in very solid chipboard boxes, and come with small glossy books of sketches for characters and vehicles. They have an Ein short, and commentaries from both the English and Japanese cast. Also the discs and inner cardboard case are made to look like a VHS tape (with the discs looking like the inner reels). Although it should have been a betamax tape, I'll give them credit for trying. I'll gladly keep both the US and UK releases in my collection.

As for the value in a region free player, over the last year I've spent $415 (counting the $96 for this Sony player) on non US region DVDs and BDs. Even if I could get everything I ordered in the US (which I can't) it would have cost me right around $800 for them.

i learned long ago that japan can make any sport interesting... yes any.... including competitive poem reading :p

I know right? I've been keen on learning about every one that an anime has been based on. Somehow they make them all seem really intriguing.

I assume he means in a nice LE box or something. My guess it will end up like the Eureka 7 BD's unless they decide to do something special for Cowboy Bebop due to its popularity.
yea, but since its so popular i wouldnt be surprise if it would be something like psycho pass

How is the Eureka Seven: Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers movie tied into the series? Is it worth picking up if I am getting the Blu-ray release of the series, or should I avoid it completely?

I'm slightly ashamed to say that I have never watched Cowboy Bebop.

Meh, I think it will be more like the FMP or Kaleido Star sets. As much stuff as they can get from the original releases and any unreleased stuff they can get their hands on.

there is nothing to be ashamed about, there are people who find it over rated, i guess for me the style, jazz music, and spike as character, also i liked that it was episodic

It isn't tied to the series. It's an alternate take. They have about as much to do with each other as the BBC Sherlock does to Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies.

Do NOT go into it assuming it is the greatest series ever. Like Evangelion, a lot of the stuff that made it special has been repeated in a lot of other shows. It is still an excellent series, but the biggest reasons the show was so highly lauded have become old hat now. If you go into it expecting a very well done show, you should like it.

Feel free to think the soundtrack is one of the greatest ever, however.

Would you recommend even watching the Eureka movie? I actually placed it in my order, but after seeing some reviews on it I am tempted to request it be taken out. Don't know if I feel like throwing down $18 on a rehash.
