Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I got it Xmas day for $3.00 from GMG and $0.10 in credit. Supposedly a good bit of effort was put into this port.
Ported by Iron Galaxy Studios, who have generally done some great work with past Capcom titles. Also, their CEO Dave Lang makes [customspoiler=great][/customspoiler] [customspoiler=Greenlight][/customspoiler] [customspoiler=pitches.][/customspoiler]

^_^ I somewhat regret passing up DiveKick at $2.50... (I remember watching their KickStarter videos.)

So RE: Humble Bundle - I am glad I didn't jump on the Amazon deal for the Sid Meiers Ace Patrol pack. I find it a lot easier to throw my money at the Humble team.

RE: Graphics cards - If money isn't an issue, get an Nvidia 770 or 780. You won't regret it if you're the kind of guy who likes running everything on the highest settings and it will last you.

Nvader Jim won King of Fighters XIII on my stream today. Not sure if any other CAGs won as some of them use different usernames.

Also, can you guys vote for what we give away next week? http://strawpoll.me/1125445/
I was in there....just realized the other day I could watch the stream on the twitch tv app on my phone while at work.

say my name two more times and I'll appear

isn't that the new dlc in Saints Row IV
oh i didnt mean your ass burgers

Speaking of regrets... I totally forgot to buy the Wargame: Airland Battle Franchise Pack for $11 during the Steam Holiday Sale 2013/2014. The current weekly sale just reminded me, lol...

He really don't want any Ace Patrol games .... no sir.

I remember picking up CivCity Rome for $1 from Steam many Xmases back. (21 Dec 2010)
I didn't get into Steam until Summer 2011, which is sad considering I'm pushing 1500 games in that short of a time, and that damned game never seems to have gone on a cheap sale since then. I look every time but nope. It's also one of the few 2K games that no one not even Amazon or Greenman sell as a Steam key.

So yeah, really hoping it gets added but I don't know that I want to BTA for it so maybe I'll see if I can buy someone's extra.

Also you You're a' Peein's don't have to reside at McDonald's in Oregon to buy from Humble.

It seems those deals on Ace Patrol were a trap, OTOH when I bought them I actually got more steam money back from selling cards than I paid for the game while I'm sure now the prices have plummeted. Yes I need to try to justify my early purchases.

I guess I could do that too or idle in the background in a window on my work computer but I don't think I could sit there and give a twitch my full attention for a couple of hours or even have the sound on. It seems kind of cheesy to win something by idling in another window or on an app and not really pay attention.

I just wish he's have his twerks or twitches or whatever at normal 'Murican times.

I think it sounds like half the regulars truth be told, but yes some people's burgers are a bit more assy than others.

Didn't take that but Civ 3 is still a great game.  Good for someone's not-so-quite-state-of-the-art laptop.  First one that had the culture mechanic.

So... Against which products did you compare this one and in what way did your research conclude it was better?
It was a while ago so I don't remember all the details... I compared EVGA, Asus, and Gigabyte 770s, and also weighed it against the AMD r9 280x.

I decided to go with Nvidia vs AMD, which was largely due to better driver support and because I'm already familiar with it. Then I chose the Gigabyte by checking benchmarks, price points, just regular stuff like that. Just reading a lot of reviews, benchmarks, posts on forums and stuff.

So just after looking over everything the Gigabyte 770 was the clear choice for me, it may not be for you but that's my 2 cents.

So, my money is on 2 of the games they will add to the Humble Bundle next week Sid Meier's Pirates (Which should be a no brainer) and CivCity Rome. If they add CivCity Rome, I will buy the bundle solely for that since my name appears in the credits.

EDIT - I think my name is in the in-game credits for Raliroads but I can't find out until I buy the bundle or someone checks for me.
Try checking MobyGames. Someone likely added the credits for the games at one point.

RE: GPU makers, you could spend forever reading reviews and customer feedback but EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus are all about the same in terms of quality.  They each have their own buzzwords and selling points but most of it is marketing speak.  Only difference is going to be noise and temps and the variations are going to be trivial.  I'd say if you have confidence in AMD as far as driver support goes (and the pries are back down to earth after the mining craze) then go with an R9 280x.  The performance is about the same and you get another gig of VRAM and a larger memory bus.  But, again, as far as manufacturers, flip a coin -- you'll read horror stories about everyone.  The Gigabytes do run about an inch or so longer than their competitors because of their design.

I would always go for the one with the best warranty. That's what matters most IMO.

I spoder mine from Gabe.
Yes. But in terms of warranty all of the ones I mentioned offer the same three-year warranty. It's been a while since EVGA offered their ZOMG FRIENDS FO-EVAH warranties. And their quality and customer service isn't what it once was. They mostly coast on name recognition now. They aren't bad, just no better than the others. After that three-year period most people are looking to upgrade, anyway.

Well honestly I'm checking out the Sapphire R9 290, which seems to have a significant performance boost over the 770, but also costs 100 euro more, i.e. 400 euro (retail is 350 euro, but the price has inflated thanks to those damn bitcoin miners).

The 290 is superior to the 770.  290s are meant to compete with 780's.  Also if you're just talking about the 290 (not 290x) then it's probably a reference cooler so one made by Sapphire isn't going to be any different from an MSI or a Gigabyte reference 290.

i wanna replace my 670 soon but i'm still terrified of amd
I wouldn't bother replacing a 670 until the 800 series comes out (and prices drop to a reasonable level). 700's are essentially just souped up and rebranded 600's at higher tiers. The 800 series is going to be an actual 'advance' in architecture/tech.

AMD has a lot of unjustified bad publicity to shake off.  That said, I still read about more people having driver issues.  All things being equal the 280s/290s are superior based on their memory and bus size.  That said there is no game I foresee myself playing in the next couple of years that will require more than 2GB of VRAM.  It's going to take that long for a significant amount of 'next gen' titles to be developed such that you'll 'regret' not having another gig of VRAM.  And by that time you're probably considering an upgrade, anyway.

True. I only use a 1080p display anyway, i'll probably wait for maxwell

re warranties: I agree with Moobs, 3 years is plenty. Also I've built and upgraded a number of computers over the years and I've personally always had video cards have issues almost immediately or not at all. If you buy from Newegg or somewhere that won't hassle you within the first 30 days for returns I don't see it as being much of an issue. I mean warranties are nice to have but if it's a huge price difference from a super extra forever and a day warranty or normal 3 years I'm going to go cheaper.

re AMD vs NVIDIA: I've owned cards from both and maybe one does one thing a little better and vice versa but they are fairly comparable in terms of speed, image and quality. They both have different publishers and high profile games they tend to work with so sometimes one game will run great on one and like ass on the other and then another game it will be the opposite. Usually if the developer and publisher are halfway decent they'll eventually patch and even things out though. That seems to be more of an on release thing and part of me almost wonders if it's intentional marketing shenanigans.  :whistle2:k

Just finished Wolf Among Us episode 2.

I enjoyed it, though it's quite short.  At about 1.5 hours or so, I honestly wonder why it took 4 or so months for this to come out.  I enjoyed the story but I felt like there were some bugs (people reacting in a certain way when I did the exact opposite the entire time in the previous scene).  Also, I felt there were few, if any, meaningful choices (unlike episode 1).  Overall I thought the story and characters were interesting enough to keep me playing, but I still can't believe it took so long for this episode to come out.  At this point, I doubt I'll be able to finish all 5 episodes before I leave the country :(

Good game, with thankfully a bit more player agency than TWD, but I still liked Broken Age more.  (yes yes I know all three of these can hardly be considered point and click adventure games in the traditional sense as there is very little puzzle solving... I still like them.)

Agreed, with all of these points. I can't believe it took them four months to come out with this. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit of a letdown after the first one. And yeah, there were hardly any choices at all (if any). I'm looking at the broader picture, though, maybe some other episodes will be meatier, in length and in content.
