This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Click on the link gift link. It tells you to whom it was redeemed.

Oh yeah, and unsurprisingly Timmy T's profile is private, so don't expect to see anything. Would love to send hate mail.

I'm trying to start my Skyrim adventure unspoiled.. I'm not reading any guides... is there anything I should know/read?

I'm also happy to report I got SweetFX working with ENBoost.  Yay, 4x MSAA + SMAA... much better.

Read? No, no point. Unless you want to read up on Elder Scrolls lore. I'd even say don't do that, just read the books you'll find as you play through the game. The amount of work that went into writing all of the books in Skyrim is seriously mindblowing. History accounts, poetry, short stories, you name it. You can also collect books as you travel and put them in bookshelves you have in your home/s (you don't have to do it manually, they line up when you "open" the bookshelf and put the books in). Then you can "activate" the book to read it, and since you have to press a button again to "take" the book while it's open, you can neatly keep all your books on the shelf and read them without disturbing the order. This also is nice, because you can read any book you find even if it's not yours, you just can't take owned books (if anyone's looking, at least).

You can honestly get lost in reading, there are so many. There are rare books too that increase your stats... have fun searching.

You've gotta upload screenshots once you make a character. What FPS are you getting with that setup? I'm using Realvision right now (not The Wilds like I thought I was).

Well, I could certainly "cheat" by looking up alchemy recipes instead of experimenting and burning ingredients.

Not much point. Just eat your alchemical ingredients ONCE to find out one of their uses, then base your concoctions off of that. If something has "damage health" and something else has "damage stamina"? Odds are they will have other traits (each ingredient has 4 uses) that will match up. Same goes for beneficial traits.

Just be sure to use your ingredients whenever possible (besides your rare ones, if you want to save them). You need to keep making potions to keep building up your alchemy skill. If they're just sitting in your inventory, they aren't gonna do you much good. Leveling up your alchemy skill is key if you want to use it seriously, since the skill tree's perks are fairly dramatic at higher levels.

I've always been blown away by the amount of writing in the in-game books in TES games. You could seriously do nothing but read the books and spend days on end of gaming sessions doing that.

Yeah, they're not half-assed either. Granted the historical ones can get a little boring sometimes, but it's all remarkably well done.

Yep thats why I stopped playing. I think I may finally be getting an itch to play again. Im sure its one of the games I cannot find at the momment though. ><
If the game was so doodly dingledoplery fun, I don't think this would be a problem. I end up getting so immersed in the game that I forget to save.

Thanks, but it was spoder'd by this ungrateful lurker.
Interesting. I didn't even realize until now that you could tell who claimed one of those gift links.

Memo to self: Always thank the person who dropped a link if I manage to grab one. Don't wanna have my name dragged through the mud outside the court of public opinion.

Though I'm not sure we should get too crazy in this particular case in our condemnations of Timmy. After all, the guy now has Dear Esther attached to his steam account. The man has suffered enough. Or if he hasn't suffered yet, he will once he tries to play that steaming pile of shit.

EDIT: oh and Ashes, I'm not sure if you were actually interested in grabbing Dear Esther or if you were just reporting that it was gone. If you did want it, I've got a key left over from whatever humble indie bundle it was part of. I sure as hell wont be using it. So it's yours if you want.

All future Humble "key" drops should be dropped that way if the giver doesn't want to deal with PMs or anything: we can then see the ungrateful leeches that take them all.

You can't normally, but Laneroo posted the key link rather than the gift link.

I don't think it works through the normal gift link. Can anyone explain to me how to link it so I can see who claimed it?

Edit: Detruire, how do I post the key link?

^_^

Thanks. I thought I didn't have it but I was mistaken (I must have typo'd my library search). And it's nice to be able to call out a lurker for a change. ;)

I also post on lurked keys as a courtesy to others so they don't waste their time.

Claim the gift-link, Mail it to yourself, then post the link from the mail.

I actually did that on purpose for that exact reason :)

Because the last time I dropped some keys, they were lurked.

Who the hell tagged Doom 3 BFG Edition with "Breast Physics"? How the hell does that even make sense? DOOM Clone is a pretty pointless one as well.

I'm glazing over that for now... I'm not feeling read-y patient with the amount they're throwing at me. I have places to go, quests to do, and chickens to kill.

That's why you stash em and save em for later. If you don't have a house yet, you can just toss em in a cupboard or end table somewhere easy to remember and come back for them later. Items don't respawn in those, so they're safe for storage.

You think that's crazy? I'm going to buy an Xbone tomorrow.

Ah cool thanks. I didn't see that mentioned (I was just looking up respawn rules -- I want to know if I should hold off on leaving that cottage on cinderblocks... seems like 10 day respawn, so yay, -strip it-.)

Why? I'm seriously curious? (I'm assuming some XBO exclusive.)

I researched the rules myself, since I decided to... reappropriate a certain Battle-Born farm on one of my characters, and wanted to figure out which containers I could safely store my stuff in. Don't remember all the rules, but I know those ones are safe.

A few reasons:

  1. Death of some great-grandparents that I never knew, grandpa got the money, gave all of his kids a pile. Nothing that grandiose, but enough for the family to splurge a bit.
  2. Forza series.
  3. http://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Hearts-III-Xbox-One/dp/B00DBF80L2
  4. Built in fantasy football.

Also, most of my irl friends (yuck) are PC illiterate, so it will be fun enough getting together to appease the console peasants.

^_^ Forza and KH3... as well as the lowest common denominator for peasant-friends.

Fantasy sports leagues are beyond my comprehension.

I had no idea how it worked myself until this year. Ridiculously simple to learn, impossible to master. You're just choosing which players you think will do well (from amongst all the teams), basically. Points add up, and you either win or lose against another guy in your league that you're matched up against each week. Not too complicated, but if you aren't into the sport, you aren't going to be very intuitive about who's smart to pick up and who's smart to get rid of on your team.

But yeah, I'm pretty excited to fire up a new Forza. I still always tell myself I should turn on Forza 3, which I barely scratched the surface of, but I'd imagine the graphics will be pretty impressive for it on the XB1. KH3 is a long ways off, but it's one of those series that I just have to buy into...

Before I post publicly, anybody want And Yet It Moves and/or The Dream Machine Chapters 1-3?

Edit: Dream Machine gone. Anyone want AYIM?

Gone.

This is neither here nor there, but if there is one thing I could tell myself before my first playthrough via time travel is know your character beforehand. My first character was a JOAT and tried to do everything. By the time I sufficiently started to level, I didn't feel special in any one area and the people/quests of the land had little impact on me, so I was doing every quest just for the sake of leveling. After reading through the Skyrim Character Blog for some initial direction, I started defining who my avatar was and creating limitations for myself. It was immensely more enjoyable for me. That's one reason I have so many playthroughs. I stopped feeling like my one character HAD to do everything. I have my heroic restoration/one-handed Nord paladin fighting against the undead and my shunned Altmer destruction mage who is after personal redemption, equality and a bit of revenge; they are both my favorite playthroughs. I generally play into levels 30-60 or 40-80 now that I'm using the community uncapper (which I suggest to make abbreviated playthroughs more fullfilling).

GOG is giving away free Dungeon Keeper for the next 48 hours.
GOG also has some pretty hefty discounts going on...80% off all dungeon and dragons games, and up to 90% off "multiplayer" games...examples inculdes 1.50 for System Shock 2, 3.00 for Rise of the Triad (2013), 1.60 for Hammer Watch, 1.60 for Pixeljunk Monster HD

Wanted to let you guys know I just activated my Desura key from My Collection in steam for Oniken. Aparently keys from Groupees (Retro) and Indie Gala (Summertime) activate but I saw someone said they got an invalid code with the one from Indie Royale (July Jubilee).
