This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I've seen some decent reviews for it... It might not be all bad.

Speaking of bad games... Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is getting panned... badly.
Yes, apparently some of the issues a lot of people had with the game (the AI, mostly) during the review period got fixed relatively recently.

And I am very sad to hear LoS2 is getting panned. Too bad Konami will probably keep the game at a $50 price forever just to recover their investment...

I am debating if I go home and even think about trying Thief. This idiot paid $30 for a preorder because well I thought Deus Ex HR was fantastic and thought Thief would be just as good. It was also in sept of last year so yeah...

Also Loot 2.0 today. So today is the day D3 finally gets fixed which is awesome.
I got Thief, Saints Row 4 and Grid 2 for 25 dollars on ebay from that AMD promo.

If Thief is similar to Deus Ex HR and Dishonored in its gameplay (from what I've read the story and atmosphere will be really lacking), then I'll be more than satisfied.

At least get some Playfire rewards back on that bitch. There's a ton of them.

So they went ahead and did it and released Warehouse and Logistics Simulator on Steam and there's a god damned DLC even, Hell's Warehouse. Really?!?

fucking Germans.

*ETA: Some of the comments at Steam are amusing.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/273940/discussions/0/558748822721103740/

Speaking from personal experience this is one of the most montonous and soul-sucking jobs I have experienced. If there is something to be gained from this simulation force your children to play it 12 hrs a day on their summer vacation so they will stay in school and get a good job.
And also Reddit

http://se.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/comments/1yvopl/steamnew_release_warehouse_and_logistics/cfo6m1z

I feel like the point where even a forklift simulator gets a zombie DLC is the point when we, as a community, should stop and reevaluate ourselves and the trends we choose to follow.

Couple of random things.

Ventica is on sale for $4 with free shipping on Newegg. It's been Greenlit for nearly a year but the publisher went bankrupt so at this point it will probably never make it to Steam. I liked it; it's a lightheard action-RPG with some choice and consquence and a female protagonist set in renaissance Italy.

Planet Explorers is shooting for Steam release the middle of next week in Early Access.

I've been pretty opposed to Early Access on the whole because I think it exploits gamers and lets developers sell an unfinished product unchecked without anyone to answer to or even much motivation to finish really.

Having said that, I'm really impressed with Planet Explorers both as a game and the developers on the whole, how they handled the Kickstarter, (everyone got alpha/beta access; they didn't charge extra when they could have) they're communication and regular updates.

The game plays part like a sandbox open world RPG with quests complete with voice acting and part like a Minecraft building/crafting sandbox, only without blocky visuals. For an alpha, it's really polished and there's a lot to do. I can honestly say I've bought non-Early Access games that were way less complete than the current alpha of Planet Explorers. I think they're being modest and it should be beta really.

I'm really picky about the things I choose to back on Kickstarter, a big name a lot of promises doesn't do much for me, but I can honestly say I'm glad I backed Planet Explorers.

Well that came sooner than I expected. Deus Ex: The Fall is available for pre-order on Steam and priced at $10. It releases on March 25th. Pre-ordering also gets you a copy of Deus Ex: GOTY which you've probably already picked up cheaply.

Watch out though, it uses 3rd party DRM: 3rd-party DRM: Steam.  That's an amusing mistake.

They've added controller support, better AI, removed auto-target (optional), removed microtransactions and rebalanced the game economy, and added graphics options. These all sound like things you'd want fixed when porting a first/third person action game from mobile to PC.

Plus you get a free copy of Deus Ex - GOTY Edition with purchase. No idea if you get a gift copy if you own the game already, though.

Thief DLC's has Steam marked as third party too :p

They should've added rebinding of keys, that's kinda norm these days.

Yes

Guilty Gear Isuka is $2.49 (-75%) on GMG.

There is a 20%-off voucher OQE4LG-WEQPSE-SMCME1 but you have to spend at least $10. Boo!
If you bought the Indie Gala Dwarves bundle, you got a Gamersgate key for GGI.

This key could be registered with Gamersgate to provide a further key.

This new key unlocks the door of the crooked old tower in the swamp.

Inside the tower is a skeleton, pointing up the stairs.

Atop the stairs is a study with four desks. On the second-left desk there is a hefty tome.

Inside the tome is a map, which directs you to a cave along a mountain trail.

Inside the cave is a hibernating bear. Inside the bear's tight grip you'll find a lantern.

The lantern illuminates a path towards the back of the cave, down a narrow passageway, and into a cavern which holds a curiously tranquil lake.

On the shore is a jetty, upon which a rowing boat is moored.

Using the boat, you can row to the centre of the lake, where you'll see some bubbles emerging.

The bubbles are being released from an underwater fracture, and as they reach the surface the my pop which releases a faint steam vapour.

If you were to monitor the pattern of the bubbles on the third Monday of every fourth month you would see a 15-digit key, in Morse Code.

This is your GGI Steam key.

Anybody who can't follow these steps properly is a Fake CAG.

:whee:

Really ecclectic bundle, most of it's been bundled before. It also included my favorite game on Steam (The Cat Lady) and my least favorite (Realms of Arkania).

ETA: I'm a glutton for punishment so I went back and tried RoA again recently. I can say that it went from the biggest steaming pile of shit on Steam to being tedious, unoptomized with bad but slightly less horrific character models, only the occasional unfilled in placeholder in quests instead of most of the time, ESL Germlish instead of actual German in the 'English' version and putrid voice acting that's still putrid and you can't turn off.

TL;DR - they did polish the turd a bit but it's still a turd.

You're one of the few who seem to own it; is it that bad?
I edited my original reply to add a bit more. On release it really was pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha, horrificly bad and completely unplayable. Now it's just bad, tedious, unoptimized and ugly with terrible voice acting. And that's actually a vast improvement over what it was.

BTW my avatar comes from that game.

Hm. Actually Realms of Arkania's the only thing I'm interested in/don't already have from this one. Pretty tempting at $3.50 + whatever oddball conversion to USD currency fees there are.

EDIT: OTOH, it might be worth scouring the Steam trade thread for a loose key. I would literally have to give away or sell everything else in this bundle, which does make it kind-of a crappy value.

Thanks for the recommendation :booty:

Alright, you have fun with it then. At least it's just bad now and not completely unplayable buggy hot mess horrific like it was on the (non-Early Access) release.

I don't dislike anyone enough to gift that game to them or saddle them with an extra key for it.

Also I hope you have a good rig because I get about the same frame rate on my 780 as I do with Skyrim with the most demanding ENB with all the settings turned up. Oddly, some of the mostly musty Euro types who want so desperate to relive their CRPG glory days so as the wear rose colored glasses about this game who play it seem to indicate it runs okay for them. I don't know if it's an Nvidia thing or what. It ran like total ass on my old computer with a 560Ti that ran just about everything else really well. It barely runs okay on my 780.

It's good, but it's also legitimately dated at this point. I was playing it last year, and I had a good enough time with it, but not good enough to bring me back to finish it. It's one of those older FPS games with a great story BEHIND it, but hardly tangible in the gameplay. It's just a bunch of going from point A to point B shooting things, with very little narrative.
Narrative can by conveyed without cut scenes. Half Life 1 is light on cut scenes, but I'd argue it has a strong narrative.

It was free after rebate from Newegg last spring. I haven't yet opened it, of course. I've been sorta hoping that retail keys get added to Steam.

On the Bundlestars bundle I kinda want Arkania, though Motoki's warnings remove much of the draw. I do really want Pressure. Of course I have everything else in that bundle.

No, I have a terrible rig, but I also don't ask too much of my games in terms of graphical fidelity--my computer and I know our limitations. I'm also pretty forgiving of glitchy RPGs--I played and actually enjoyed Two Worlds 1 (and I'm the only person I know who can say that, for good or ill).

Still haven't started the first game in my four for Feb. Stupid pokemon........ :joystick:

Can never be bundled too soon.  Hell, it's been raining bundles last week or so.  Think we've seen as many as six or seven?  Possibly more.

Well, cheers for that ashes. There I am trying my best to actually play some new games or finish off nearly-finished stuff (I'm working on Dust again), and you go and throw this Diablo 3 stuff out there.

You are a BAD friend.

On the plus side, good CAG. Saves pennies.

:whee:
I've had D3 for over 14 months but haven't bothered to play it (broken loot system, and plenty of ARPGs to play). I'd actually been waiting for them to scrap the RMAH (real money auction house) and rebalance the game so you can thrive on your own lewt drops. Note that everything in my post applies to base Diablo 3... so it's like getting almost a whole new game. Now that this patch is live (we've been waiting around a year for it, since the announcement), I'm moving D3 from deep-backlog to my short list (well, ~40 games) of stuff to play. This is more like Diablo 3 should have been. I know a number of us already own D3 (from CAGly or unmentionable purchases)... so it's about getting more out of our purchases.

Today's patch is very much like Blizz's usual WoW pre-expansion patch (month before release), where all the mechanics are updated, but the new zone isn't yet available.

Reaper of Souls ($40 expansion) adds different stuff. I'm in no way advocating for it.

FOR REAPER OF SOULS:

  • Enchanting - Through the Mystic you are able to re-roll one stat on an item to a potentially different stat. You can always pick the original stat if the other options presented are worse.
  • Transmogrification - Also through the Mystic, you can change the appearance of your items to that of others, similar to how it is done in World of Warcraft. Rare item skins are unlocked as the Mystic is leveled up. Legendary item skills are unlocked when you identify the Legendary. More info about the Mystic can be found here.
  • Adventure Mode - This is a new mode, separate from Campaign mode, that allows players to freely travel around the world, killing whatever monsters they want. Bountiesare optional side-quests that grant bonus rewards for completing them. Nephalem Rifts are completely randomized dungeons with random enemies and random effects that spawn a random boss at the end, creating a unique experience and the chance for some epic loot! You can read more about Adventure mode here.
  • Act V and Crusader - With Reaper of Souls, you get access to Westmarch, Act V, and a new class, the Crusader. The Crusader is very versatile and can be either a ranged class, dealing damage from afar, or tankier class, fighting directly through hordes of monsters.
  • Other Smaller things - New Hellfire ring and Uber Diablo fight, Gambling system, one new active skill and three new passive skills for all the classes, and probably more.
It is Tuesday and Bundle Stars has a new bundle again.
