 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Anyone know why 3.33 says "out of stock" when it's in the cart rather than pre order or something?

I have Attack on Titan Part 1 Limited Edition, Eva 3.33, and Deadman Wonderland in my cart right now. Code worked fine. Haven't checked out yet. AoT and Deadman both say available soon, 3.33 says "Currently Out of Stock".

*Edit* That all being said I might just get the AoT standard. Paying the extra $20-ish just for the 24 page book thing seems kinda steep...

It was the Attack on Titan Funimation exclusive that was excluded from the sale, so the regular LE that can be purchased at other retailers is still eligible for the sale, so there shouldn't have been any problems during checkout.

Grabbed Fullmetal Panic S1 & 2. Heard about it from a friend a few years back and I've always wanted to check it out. Also got the Coyote Ragtime Show for $11. The deal is pretty good for SAVE animes (if you can find any you like/don't have that is) and they act as good filler items if you want the free funimation streams for 3 months and free shipping.

Be aware that Fumoffu and Second Raid have two very different tones. The former is all comedy, little seriousness, while the latter has a few comedy bits early on but mostly serious.

And the other two titles I mentioned are probably the best values I can find compared to other places like Rightstuf, or Amazon.
I got eureka seven LE blu ray and part 2 pre ordered at rightstuf.com along with Eva 3.33 so im waiting on that order to be fulfilled. Might just grab Attack on Titan LE and deadman and anyone care to recommend a 3rd "cheap" blu to get the 20% off?

S1 and 2 SHOULD be the original and Fumoffu, unless they mistook second raid for the second season, because of it's weird title.  I love the original and second season, but cannot stand the third season, mostly because of the overabundance of ridiculous violence, and how it's tone is NOTHING like the first season's tone.  Yes, the second season is very different from the first season, but I've always felt that comedy is the most important thing in FMP, and action was supposed to take a back seat.

Haven't watched Fumoffu yet but I don't see how it can be perceived as an official season; It just seems like a silly little comedy spin-off. From what I watched of the first season I could see it's obviously going to get much darker later on and stray away from the lighthearted comedy.

I don't think anybody in their right mind would actually consider Fumoffu as a second season to the series.

It's not meant to be a second season to the series, but just something that was made as a standalone like a spinoff since you didn't need to watch the first season to figure out what was going on in Fumoffu.  It was mainly just the characters that were used in Fumoffu, but it's got little to no connection to the first season, or the rest of the series, so no need to even try to relate the two together since it wasn't intended that way when they made the series.

I liked Fumoffu, but due to its inherent attachment to FMP, it certainly did not meet expectations because of that, but wasn't bad, just not great.

Thematically, it is not a true season.

But for some random intern doing stock and has never heard of, let alone seen, the show, it sure looks like a Season 2. Especially since it is the same number of episodes as Second Raid (and the cover art and top stickers usually use TSR instead anyway).

It all depends on how it was entered into the system.

Yeah, I was going to get all of it but does it go into any specific order? I didn't grab Fumoffu because it looked like a spinoff and was a tad cheaper on Amazon (and I already went past my $50 limit for free shipping).

And dear lord, the Funimation shop is buggy as all hell. Got the code for my Elite subscription this afternoon and will probably watch some stuff on it tonight. Here's hoping it won't break, lol.

Fumoffu takes place between Season 1 and TSR. It's essentially all comedy filler. Very, very funny comedy filler.

Oh, and the word "Fumoffu" shows up in the show. A lot during the finale.

Fumoffu had the best intro song of the series, so for that alone it's worth getting. I enjoyed it, but never considered it a part of the actual story. I really, really wish they had continued FMP's story. It just kind of .... ends. Really great show.

Holy crap it took forever for my Funi order to go through! Had to use Chrome to make it even work. Picked up Shana S1 & 2 and Deadman Wonderland. Definitely overpaid for DM Wonderland, but in aggregate, $1 / HD episode feels right to me. Quite happy, thanks Squarehard for posting.

In case in helps anyone, SecondSpin and FYE both have the somewhat common 20% off and free shipping deals.

SecondSpin requires $25 (code SSFSAPR2) and FYE requires $30 to get the discount (code BASKET), so you know...

For all of the questions about Eureka Seven that I asked, I ended up deciding to try Escaflowne and if I do go back to E7 it won't be for a while.  I will be the first to admit I didn't give FMP a good enough shake when I tried to watch part of it many years ago as part of a .hack game I think it was.

Escaflowne used to be one of the must see anime, but nobody talks about it anymore. I remember when one talked about fantasy anime it was Esca, Slayers, and Lodoss War.

If you're not aware, the manga is fully translated, so if you're interested in how the story proceeds, I highly recommend reading it. Great stuff.

I still like Escaflowne, one of the first shows I ever watched

I still haven't decided on what I want to order at Funimation.

Then that's truly a shame. As my Elf avatar from Tower of Doom probably gives away, I really like the D&D style of fantasy (or at least what it was in the video game industry before Diablo 2 and Baldur's Gate and Everquest), but I couldn't take a good guess as to why nobody talks about those anime now.

I personally cannot wait to start Lodoss War (I got lucky and got it cheap) and I believe that I'll really enjoy Escaflowne too (once I assemble the rest from Hastings). I just have a backlog to sift through a bit first.

@Squarehard: Haha, then I hope it comes in the right condition and that you enjoy it (or enjoy it again)! :)

All the Mikuni Shimokawa songs for FMP were great.

And I hated Escaflowne. I'll admit it was hugely because the Escaflowne was part of the first 10 anime I've ever watched*, and it was crap. Same with X the movie. (And even Akira.) It wasn't until Ninja Scroll and Ghost in the Shell that I started liking anime. Then I saw some of the broadcasted series when they edited it to be aimed at males.

*Not counting things I watched as a young kid, like Doraemon.

Are you talking about the Full Metal Panic stuff that was originally published in Newtype?  That was published by the now defunct ADV Manga, so it may be hard to get.  I also didn't think it went very far, certainly not into Second Raid stuff.  I know that they also published a comedic manga, but I'm not aware of one that adapts more of the novels or anything.  Unless you're thinking of FMA.

Are they done with anime at this point though?  Bandai is still producing toys like crazy, including the newly solicited Metal Build.

Got my Little Busters 2/ From the New World 1 in today as well as my Steins;Gate PC LE. That Steins;Gate packaging is super sexy and am eager to try out the VN after how much I enjoyed the anime.

Unsure. Last I heard, Kyoto Animation not having the free time to sign up was the major hang-up but that was years ago.

Record of Lodoss War, and Chronicles of the Heroic Knight are by far two of my most favorite animes ever. Even Rune Soldier is right up there with them. Good stuff, man.

I was never a bug fan of Escaflowne. I found the love story more annoying than compelling, there wasn't enough action, and I disliked the ending. The localization was also fairly shit.

For those that have used the Funimation Elite service (a good bit of you got 3 months free w/ your funi orders), what do you think of it? I've only been catching up to Fairy Tail on it (since future collections are AWOL from Funimation's release schedule). I like it so far, but I wish they had a dedicated section for videos along with a favorites part. Like on Crunchyroll/Hulu, you can get right back to what you're watching if you drop off mid-episode, and never forget what episode you were on.

On a more positive note, the HD/SD and Sub/Dub toggle seem to switch pretty quickly.

I've been subscribed to the Funimation Elite since they relaunced their website last year. The biggest downside is a lack of proper queue on most of the apps, which makes it difficult to get right back to what you are watching. On the plus side, for a lot of the simulcasts that Funimation gets, they have HD streams on their apps, whereas Crunchyroll (annoyingly) still only has HD if you watch on their website. Obviously, if you watch on their websites these issues are mostly nonexistent, but I like to watch them on my TV. :p Also, Funimation releases the dubbed episodes for upcoming releases in advance through their Elite service most of the time. Makes it easy to sample a dub for any given show before you buy. For example, looking at their schedule, the dubbed episodes of Haganai Next will be posted to EVS on 04/29/14. So that's cool, I guess.

I recently picked up the Amazon Fire TV and unfortunately there are no native Crunchyroll or Funimation apps yet.  However I was able to sideload the Funimation tablet app and can access my elite subscrition without a problem. Once you set up your queue it's pretty convenient to drop in and out when watching a show since the app never closes and just stays on the last page you viewed. For the $50 I paid for a year subscription I think it is well worth it.

the sub is alright, it needs a few more features such as keeping track where you left off, and a way better sorting system... and some bugs worked out... but it has a decent selection and when it's working the video is at least good.

Any idea how I can get the iPad app for elite without having to pay $10? I'm a little confused on how that works if elite includes mobile viewing too.

There should be an Ipad Free version, android has one. You log into the free version and have access to the library I think the only difference is that you have ads because the app is free.

Yeah, I saw that. That's a little weird though, you would think they would just give them the elite branding. But I'm starting to learn that Funimation is very new at this business compared to other streaming companies. In other words, it seems like a cluster****.

So my copy of Heaven's Lost Property S1 Anime Classics came in today...

That's just confusing.

They've must've had some leftover ones of the original without the slipcover, so they just put two and two together? lol :p
Very...I sold my old HLP S1 set because I wanted a bluray sized case. This was a big "fuck you" to me lol. I am assuming that most of the first run of these will be like this. I already emailed TRSI to see if I can return this travesty.

Haha, that's one of the weirder packaging errors that I've seen.
I don't think this was a packaging error...other people have been getting it too. Just pure laziness.

Same issue you have + what theMixxer said. With CR I can watch all the FT I want, queue up shows, and manage it easily. Then again I've been using CR for several years so I'm used to the site format. It is nice to catch the random non-CR anime here though. Couple interesting shows.

That's probably what it is. RACS also commented that their shipment of the Shangri-La S.A.V.E. set is just Pt. 1 & 2 in an box set with a S.A.V.E. sticker slapped on it. So it looks like Funimation isn't even trying anymore to hide that the initial batches are just repackages to clear out old product.

The weird thing I find about that HLP release is that they were too lazy to even print a slip cover to cover the entire case.
