The Whispered World Special Edition - play for the first time - £0.10

I just looked this up as I have the "regular version" which looks to have been removed from Steam.

Are the devs really planning to charge anyone who previously owned this for what amounts to a patch? (cards, some bug fixes, commentary). That's crazy

They were going to.

Huh, thanks. Free for GOG, but $5 on Steam. For the ability to get cards? That's crazy. Seems people think they'll make it free on Steam too, but $5 is crazy for that kind of "content".
Yeah, they made it a separate release, and I believe the page for the original was still up before they decided to give existing owners the ability to upgrade. It's bullshit, and after protest, the pub caved. Love how GOG immediately made it a free upgrade, and Steam's upgrade is still $5.

Despite issues with rewards not showing up on the GMG site right away, I'm real happy with the Playfire beta. Even without getting the higher achievements, I've racked up $7 since the beginning of April. :)

Just got an email for 25% discount on Bound by Flame.  Unfortunately, you can't use it in conjunction with Playfire credit, bastards.  I also just watched some video since the game came out on PSN today.  I'm starting to rethink if I should pre-purchase.  I've still got a couple days to decide.

Concerning the Star Wars play for the first time rewards. I'm kinda new to PlayFire rewards. I launched each one once, ran it long enough to make it into game on each one through whatever the opening was.

Do I need to log so much time, or does it take some time to come through? I did it a few days ago and nothing has been added yet.

Yeah, based on my experience, it's best to log in 20+ minutes on each game so it'll track. I've done 20+ minutes on all the F2P games recently and gotten rewards for all of them. I would recommend doing 7 of the games one day, and the other 7 the next (to break it up and make it easier on Playfire to track).

New head-to-head just got posted by the way, Strike Suit Zero vs. Spelunky. For the love of god, please pick Strike Suit Zero (since it's been bundled, and is generally easier).

Not to dispute BTastic, but as long as Steam notices that you played it, that should be enough. Whether Playfire actually picks up on it and acknowledges it as a reward is a whole other issue. For the 'play first' rewards I have actually received, I've logged a minute or less.

I agree with Neuro. The problem is I've played several games for 1 - 5 minutes and Steam hasn't acknowledged I've played them on my profile. In this scenario, it's unlikely Playfire will track it.

All I can say is none of the games I've played for less than 20 minutes show up as played on my Steam profile except for Monaco (and Monaco doesn't say how long I played it), and I got 0 "Play for the first time" rewards for the ones that haven't shown up on my Steam profile, despite playing them anywhere between 1 - 5 minutes. I don't know why Steam hates me.

Double post, but just a heads-up. Got all the achievement rewards for Bad Bots in ~3 hours of actual playtime. Game is pretty easy (aside from a long segment towards the end in the Captain's Quarters, and the "Final Run" part) on easy, and Easy difficulty doesn't disable achievements.

I'm sure a bunch of you have it from bundles, only cost me 50 cents, so I figured why not.

The game's alright and has some neat ideas/homages that might make you find it surprisingly decent for the first hour or so. The problem is the game has way too much padding for time (similar rooms one after the other), and suffers from going from okay to downright fucking tedious (there's only 5 or so types of enemies, backgrounds and shit are constantly reused, you pretty much have access to all the special weapons within the first 30 minutes). By the time I finished it, my opinion on it went from "alright, not bad even if it'll probably be a little short" to "holy fuck, can this just be over already???". Story is pretty predictable too. Not worth more than 50 cents at all.

Game had some potential but it ultimately feels like a crappy low-budget Metroidvania without the upgrade system/required backtracking.

I now have both The Whispered World and the Special Edition as separate entries in my Steam library. Looks like the free upgrade happened.

I agree with your general sentiment, although I personally didn't find the repeating enemy/background sprites too annoying, being a budget game and all. Initially, I was more annoyed there was no "map", but the story was linear enough and the rooms looked different enough that as I went on, it didn't bother me anymore. One thing I found really frustrating though, was that when you get hit by a melee or electric attack, you get stunned for 2 seconds. Maybe this wasn't really a problem in lower difficulties (I played on medium), or when there are only a few enemies - but the boss fights, and when they locked me into those quarantine rooms with the respawning waves of melee killerbots... Almost rage-quit right there.

But yeah, it was average at best, mediocre at it's worst - typical for bundle fodder.

Well, I could live with ~10 different enemies, but for the majority of the first part of the game, it's millions of the first three varieties (brown, red, green), and then occasional appearances by different types later (specifically the zombie robots in the one section towards the end who never show up again). I think there were something like 8 different non-boss enemies total. By padding, I meant they had several "Quarantine" areas back-to-back with the same damn enemies. It got so tedious, break it up a little, you know?

Maybe it's because I marathoned it, but the rooms all started to look the same after a while in each "section". And yes, that game really needed a map (aside from the little picture of where you are in the starship every couple of rooms or so, that was nice at least).

It's very linear, though I liked that all the areas connected so you could eventually end up somewhere you'd been before (which usually means you went the wrong way). That's why I said it felt like a Metroidvania in that sense that you could go anywhere except for locked off areas, but since there's no upgrades to backtrack for, it's usually pointless.

In regards to your frustration, that same fucking problem happens on Easy too, it's just a lot easier to deal with, the only place where it really got annoying was the Quarantine areas in the Captain's Quarters with the "zombie" melee deathbots because there's just so damn many of them. Those areas was pretty much the only place I died in-game, rest of the game was easy enough.

Like I said, worth 50 cents, but I feel bad for anyone who buys it even at 75% off.

------------------------

That aside, is anyone here buying anything from GMG and not paying with their credit? I've got some credit to burn and I could really use some PayPal monies for the Sonic bundle. I'd appreciate the favour, and possibly a hug after all the shit today has brought.

That's about exactly how I felt about it.

Of course I also replayed the first hour or so because if you start a new game instead of continuing your old save is wiped out.

I also found the final boss to be a massive pain in the ass. Not so much difficult as exceedingly tedious. Way too much health.

Agreed. But it's a final boss, so it's expected. It took me forever to figure out how to dodge that ball of light attack. I thought it was just an incredibly accurate laser and was stumped about how to dodge it for ages.

So PlayFire has replaced the "Visit GreenManGaming" under your rewards balance with a "Spend it" button. Which got me all excited until I clicked it and still only had 10c on GMG. =/

They're cruel, cruel bastards sometimes.

Hmm, free money for easier game me and pretty much every CAG already has on Steam or free money for hard-as-balls game I only have on GOG? This decision will keep me up all night. :bouncy:
I know it has a reputation, but it honestly isn't that hard. It's just unforgiving.

I'd probably bite on the voiceover with my credit if I could get the 20% extra off on it. Still offering to buy stuff for people with no credit/pool orders so the voucher applies. :p

Yeah, but watch the good rewards be tied to all the ridiculous achievements like To Hell and Back, Seen it All, and Public Enemy. :wall:

Well, problems as always. I did all the Croixleur rewards yesterday, with about 10-15 hours to spare on the cutoff time, and today I see I'm getting rewards that I did AFTER that, yet no Croixleur rewards...

Odds are their shitty slow system didn't pick up that I did the achievements in time before the cutoff, so I'm fucked. Went to send in a ticket about it, and there's no option to make any new tickets. What the hell? So I just replied to the last ongoing ticket I had with them via email to open the case back up and tell them my new problem, so we'll see.

It took nearly a month to get my YAZD rewards that I didn't get. They literally told me "We added them" twice when they didn't both times, and I just had to say "No, you didn't" over and over again until they finally added them for real. Worst support I've ever come across, hands down.

If anyone's playing Cargo Commander for rewards, the "Eradicator" one is fairly easy. Just kill 20 monsters. The "Curse Quota Exceeded" is a secret achievo, simply press "F" 100 times. You'll get the achievement at the end of the level.

As a bonus, it's a neat little game.

Certainly more enjoyable than Bad Bots or Croixleur.

Croixleur would be funner if not for the crashes and nonsense. The game itself is pretty clean hack n' slash mayhem with a fair number of special attacks to mix things up.

Unfortunately that's all it is... It's a game fighting 5 different types of enemies (each with a couple different colors, different strengths) over and over again on a circular play area until you die or the level is over. Oh, then you have the "story" mode which has a couple minutes of ecchi dialogue, then more of the repetitive fighting, which lasts anywhere between 8 and 12 minutes.

So yeah, it's fun for about 30 minutes, after which point you realize there's nothing more to the game. I mean, you can unlock both characters, unlock all the weapons by playing through two or three times... but why?

Getting a higher score...pretty old school...not as much for unlock junkies. Mine didn't crash at all for the 4 or so hours I played to earn all the rewards. Decent game....worth 10...nah about 1 or 2 dollars maybe.

Cargo Commander was fun and I can see myself playing it more. Good for unlock junkies and fun a pick up and play game. Thanks for the recommendations from this thread earlier. I was having more fun with it than I was Kung Fu Strike (Enemies got a bit cheap here but will probably finish it someday).

Wow, that easy? I didn't think I had the time for the rewards between Bad Bots and Kung-Fu Strike so I held off on it, but if two of the three are that easy, I'll get it. Why not? Thanks HitlerCat.

Well, the game will crash every time you tab out, and as far as I know there's no way around that. As for standard crashes, it happened to me every time I played survival mode and survived for over 12 minutes or so. Kinda defeats the purpose of the game's most challenging mode when you just get booted out if you do too good.

Never crashed for me in story mode, but since I beat both of my playthroughs in around 10 minutes I guess that explains it.

You played Serious Sam Classics: Revolution for the first time!

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere. Maybe something they are adding?

I thought maybe this was why I didn't get my last round of play-for-the-first-time rewards but the six games I played on May 3rd all show up on Steam. Playfire says I only played four and earned no rewards. This is actually the first time I have had any problems.

And I think exiting the level must be the key to getting it. I must have spammed F a thousand times, expecting the achievement to pop up. Only when ending the work day did I get the achievement.

Overall, I thought the game was pretty decent. I don't think I cared for the Wormhole too much as I'd rather have time to explore, as opposed to being forced to rush through because some random out-of-control anomaly.

  • Serious Sam Classics: Revolution - unlock Fireworks - £0.50
This is probably easiest. Note it's people, not enemies. (so in a versus mode)

Works on split-screeen too. Funny stuff trying to do it with both using same buttons.

:D

Damn, I only have SS3:BFE.
Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter demo works like free2play,

so you should be able to get rewards without actually owning it.

(You get access to some parts of full game + all of multiplayer.

Trease Diving achievement is literally the first achievement you can get. Other two are multiplayer.)

Croixleur would be funner if not for the crashes and nonsense. The game itself is pretty clean hack n' slash mayhem with a fair number of special attacks to mix things up.
I didn't see any crashes, and the special attacks seemed like something to use when you wanted to have your chain broken.
