You guys remind me of crypto-nerds....
privacy_opinions.png
And for the casual crypto-nerd, there's Neal Stephenson's (Snow Crash) Cryptonomicon, a not-terrible novel that even a pleb like me can handle, complete with terrible nerd-written sex scenes.

Playing Played Eversion for Steam cards and I "beat" the game in 30 minutes! There's only like 4 (or 5) worlds and the "not secret" ending closes the game essentially telling you that that the developer knew this was a piece of shit game and deserves to be closed.

Its a "mario-like" platformer with crap jumping mechanics and poor platform design. Not even going to bother with sarcasm, this is a shit game. This is the only game where I might consider writing a negative Steam review (have not played Bad Rats or Secret of the Magic Crystal) and just post a GIANT MIDDLE FINGER.

Seriously fuck you Eversion and its developer (I'm absolutely sure it's not plural)!

EDIT: fuck YOU Zaratustra Productions

EDIT 2: AND with the last card drop...uninstall Steam
But you didn't even mention the part where the dev uses an achievement title to mock Johnny Blow. I agree with the poor controls but the evert mechanic made it decidedly not poor platform design. And the creepiness was awesome.

I'm not just saying this because it benefits me, but I totally agree with how Planetary Annihilation is handing things: High price for early access and price drops on towards and through release.

These other guys have got it bass-ackwards.

They're taking the guys that want a game the most and charging them the least. Then they're slowly raising the price for people who don't want it as badly. Show me the data, but I think they're nuts.
Yeah, it's completely backwards and stupid. The proof is there with betas that when limited enough you have people pay crazy stupid prices just to get to play early and not even own the game. I get the "loyalty" discount sort of like in Kickstarter and they are trying to give people an incentive/force them to buy in early for fear of a higher price, but in the long run it doesn't make sense.

So, after messaging the Into The Dark dev on Desura to get a Steam key for the game (which he sent 4 minutes later), this happened:

y6wPqDP.jpg

Pretty cool. Sounds like a safe bet we'll* get Into The Dark Steam cards.

*: All three of us, probably. PlayInjector bundle, anyone?

I like how the PSN thread has "Crappy Activision Sale!" in the title. Is there any other kind? Obvious statement is obvious.

The Spacebase DF-9 soundtrack edition($12) is actually cheaper than the regular edition($15). Is this one of the games that got a no trade flag?

That was a lot to catch up on.  But I did it!  Here's my response to things.

Sorry about the Who's Gaming Now group.

Tebow!

It's been too long since I watched Mask of the Phantasm.  But rewatching it now would require attaching the VCR...

Eversion was amazing.

Seriously, what was Frisky even doing here?

I don't have a horse in the Early Access race since I'm not likely to purchase anything Early Access in the first place.  But I don't think imposing a time limit is in everyone's best interests.  That doesn't help the dev get it done, and it doesn't help the consumer get a superior product.  As long as work is being done and updates are coming regularly, what good is trying to force a release in 12 months rather than 15?  The people who bought into it have their game regardless, and forcing a swifter release won't make the final result better.  It seems to me that the only ones with any reason to be annoyed at something taking any longer are those who won't buy until it goes gold and gets a sale, and catering to people who haven't paid anything rather than those who have just seems ridiculous.

Bad Rats is as awful as everyone's said.  Ugh.

I know a lot of people have most of the sonic games already, but the Sonic Hits Collection for $7.49 is a pretty damn good deal.
For some CAG-like reason reason I only own the GREATEST RPG ever coded in the history of forever from the Sonic Hits Collection. I have to admit I'm a bit tempted by the -75% $7.49 price. Hmm. :whistle2:k

Where was the Sonic Collection glitch just less than a year ago? I faintly remember it being a Steam sale glitch and a rather awesome one too. Something like it was supposed to be just -50% off $14.99 but ended up being -75% $7.49 off for maybe 25-30 minutes. It appears the Humble collection offered is the exact same one as the Steam collection (duh, obviously).

Has anyone given in and bought the Sonic collection from humble yet? Magical math says it ends up being $0.44 per Sonic game. At that cheap price why didn't SEGA just release this collection as a featured Humble Bundle? Aside from a charity taking a percentage of the profits, that might have been the best Humble Bundle since perhaps the Origin or Deep Silver bundles (if you found those decent to good bundles) or... ever.

I'd say that's a missed opportunity, but humble seems to be doing that a lot lately.

Also, RIP Bob Hoskins :(

Yeah, I have no idea. Seems like a goof, but it's still up. It's a Double Fine game though, so it'll probably be bundled eventually to raise money for their next game. :p

Damn right it is. I practically gasmed about it in the Humble thread since the only Sonic game i own on PC is Adventure DX.

Anyways, if any of you bought the Lazy Guys Night Sky Bundle, Evopollution Steam keys are available to you now. Just got the e-mail a few hours ago.

They're also hosting a "Morning Sky" bundle with only the games that got greenlit or originally came with Steam keys. It's $2.. but only for the first 24 hours, after which it goes up to $3.. which is the original price of the Night Sky bundle.

Morning Sky Bundle includes:

Huntsman: The Orphanage (Steam key)

Evopollution (Steam key)

Micron (Desura key, Steam key promised)

Wimp: Who Stole My Pants? (Desura key, Steam key promised)

Project Night (Desura key, Steam key promised)

Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman's Mine (Desura key, Steam key promised)

Zombies was fighting you DPsyco!?

That's the way boosters work. You just need to log in every so often (two weeks I think).
Well that's good to know. I've never really bothered to learn how the card system works. Usually I just sell what I don't like and make a level 1 badge for a game I really enjoyed.

People who buy these things care too, trust me. Just go to those forums on Early Access games and check. It's just that it's not the usual crowd around here lest you get labeled a #FakeCAG. I've personally bought a few Early Access games. I'm just really choosy about it and do a lot of research first plus go with my gut on observing how the developer interacts (or lack thereof) with the community.

I'm not saying there needs to be an iron fisted one strike you're out, 365 days exactly to the hour policy, but I feel like there needs to be some level of accountability in some way. With a publisher games (usually) get done. Even if they aren't perfect, they get done. There's accountability. The developers might not like it, they might need to cut some things, but it gets done.

The thing with some artiste types is they are never satisfied with they're work. It's never good enough. They're never 'done'. They need someone to force them finish and call it good enough.

Then there's the types that mean well but things fall apart, which in a traditional game development environment the game would get cancelled. But here they have people's money already. And there's also no safeguards in place for Valve to stop selling an abandoned game.

Another issue is no roadmaps, not even rough estimates, are given or required. Is it scrupulous to sell a game that you know is probably 5 or 6 years out because one guy is working on it in his spare time when that isn't made explicitly clear to those buying? Even Kickstarter requires some kind of estimate on when the final product might be delivered. It is of course not written in stone, but it's something and it's important that people know what the time frame might be.

There's also unsavory types with no intention to deliver a good, proper, more or less complete and relatively bug free game. Again there's no safeguards and nothing in place for Valve to check and remove such items from being sold.

It basically takes a whole lot of flame wars, drama, shit stirring, pitch forks, screaming and getting the gaming press' attention and willingness to pick up the story and run with it so that Valve gets embarrassed and notices something might be a problem before they take any sort of action about a problematic item being sold. It shouldn't be that hard.

Deep Silver Bundle E

http://steamdb.info/sub/43984/#section_history

Deep Silver bundle again?

If it goes like previously, this would be $1-tier
(previous was Deep Silver Bundle A - D where A=$1 B=BTA C=B15$ D=Bonus)
Would they really put Dead Island Riptide Complete in the $1-tier though? Maybe they're gonna mix and match previous existing tiers? They don't exactly have the biggest (relevant) catalog to pull from and the only other games that sell for a decent amount that they offer are Metro: LL and Saints Row IV. Riptide Complete just seems like a BTA kind of game.

Edit: Just looked and they apparently published Killer is Dead and X: Rebirth. You learn something new every day.

Blizzard could probably revive this project and have it kicked out by 2015 and I'd buy it on the spot!

Yes, this is basically what I was saying the other day about EA stuff. Because Valve chooses to exercise very little oversight over the process, you have the perfect environment for the kinds of abuses you describe here. It's just not a very good system as it is currently implemented. Devs with good intentions and plenty of funding to make something a reality like the idea of getting a constant stream of feedback about the state of a game and what their alpha-testers love and hate about it, but they're a small fraction of who is using the system and even they would probably agree that it needs to be policed much better than it is.

Also, Greenlight.

Here's an interesting article about an EA title that Valve actually pulled. This sort of thing could be avoided if there were a little more QC on Valve's part.

Right now all it is is the Dead Island: Riptide Complete collection (base-game and both DLCs).

Was hoping we'd get a new bundle today with the Toxic bundle on its way out (leaving only 3 timed bundles in the catalogue). Cool, I missed out on Grey Matter pre-Steam release, surprised to see it bundled again so soon considering the $10 pricetag on Steam. I think the only one I have is Fortrix 2, not too shabby BundleStars, but Humble's probably gonna get most of my money until the Spring Sale's over.

Bundlestars, what the frig happened to your 48 hour launch discounts?

You used to be cool. You've changed, man.

@Bobby: Thanks.

I think those only happen on "permanent"/Reboot bundles aka ones with no timer, because the lack of timer takes away the rush to buy it, and leads to lower sales overall, I'd imagine.

re: Amazing Spider-man. Just going with web-shooters instead of wrist-gunk was a huge improvement for me. There were other reasons why I liked the new take over the Raimi movies, but that sort of symbolizes all of them.

And for the casual crypto-nerd, there's Neal Stephenson's (Snow Crash) Cryptonomicon, a not-terrible novel that even a pleb like me can handle, complete with terrible nerd-written sex scenes.
If you get through Cryptonomicon, you might want to try the almost-completely-not-related Baroque Cycle. I'd describe it as Science Fiction set at the birth of Science. Another interesting book with fascinating similarities is Leslie Marmon Silko's Almanac of the Dead, though I'm not sure I'd recommend that one. It's rather dark and disturbing.

Eversion was amazing.
I really liked Eversion. The jumping was a bit clunky, but the game didn't require tighter jumping mechanics. They were good enough for the puzzle aspect of switching worlds.

Yes, the month-long rush to grab a typical Bundle Stars bundle. Get 'em while they're hot, ladies and germs!
