Good gameplay on paper? Not sure what to think about that. And you're really going with overrated? With terrible weapon variety? And complaining about last-gen cell shaded graphics?

Have you actually played Borderlands?
Beat both Borderlands on PS3 and got the platinums. Good gameplay is the rpg mechanics going along with the fps ones and 4 player coop. Weapon variety? Like every gun you pick is the same with a different coat of paint, a witty remark and maybe a bit more dmg. Game changing .3 DMG. You know they admitted the graphics of the original were due to them fucking up late in development, right?

Can you actually judge a game based on its merits?

The original art style was terrible. Fallout: New Pandora. Some mistakes are worth making.

K, so I think I understand now:

Pinball Arcade Season 1:

PS4 Version -

$30

18 Tables (doesn't include original 4 tables, those cost an extra $9)

Not cross buy but $15 upgrade price if you own Season 1 on PS3/Vita

PS3 Version -

$30

18 Tables (doesn't include original 4 tables, those cost an extra $10)

Cross-buy with Vita version

Pinball Arcade Season 2:

PS4 Version -

Not Available Yet

PS3 Version -

$30

19 Tables

Cross-buy with Vita version

NO TROPHIES ON 9 OF THE TABLES

Pinball Arcade Season 3:

PS4 Version -

No Tables Available Yet, 4 coming on July 22nd.

PS3 Version -

$5 per table

6 Tables available now

Cross-buy with Vita version

No season pass or table bundles

NO TROPHIES!

So why are the tables getting more expensive in Season 3?  Why no Season Pass for Season 3 (is this because of iOS or something, I recall some of you bitching about it earlier).  Why no trophies after table pack 15?  (They really hit their trophy limit?  That is beyond lame!)

You're totally right man. I constantly confused myself with whether or not I was holding a pistol or a rocket launcher. The weapons system in this game is basically unlike any other. So many different game changing effects and parts combinations. Of course some of the same skins are used, there is no way they could make that many different parts patterns.

No, never heard of the "fucking up in late develpment" part. I do know they went non cell shaded to start with, then copied Codehunters style mid-ways into dev and pissed people off who were working on it originally into quitting. Link?

Just trying to figure out how the hell it all works. They couldn't have possibly made it more complicated. Not to mention the 138 listings for "PInball Arcade" on the PSN Store.
when I made my psn download list spreadsheet this morning I eventually just deleted all of the pinball arcade/zen pinball listings and wrote 'fuck it, pinball' as a single line item. zen pinball is just as bad with the standalone games for some tables and those same tables that integrate in to zen pinball.

shame about the trophy exhaustion in PA, I really enjoy chasing those lofty ass table goals.

The game is enjoyable. But putting it in the stratosphere of "BRILLIANT" alongside Gearbox as a "great" developer is foolish. They struck gold and they know it. Now they're cashing in.

Judging by you guys conversation I'm guessing I shouldn't sell the download code for Borderlands 2 that comes with my vita then.

Recommend playing Borerlands before or no need?

Going into the Vita version with no prior experience is probably the best way to play it. Won't find yourself nitpicking about little changes or performance issues.

That's basically what I just said. I didn't read anywhere in that article saying "they admitted the graphics of the original were due to them fucking up late in development". It specifically says in what you linked, there is no known reason for the change. Nowhere in the above posts did I mention "brilliant" to describe the game, nor "great" to describe Gearbox, so not sure where the "foolish" part comes into play here either. And as has been said before, what's wrong with cashing in on a sure thing?

Holy shit, did FarSight really make an exclusivity deal with Microsoft that Season 2 has to be released on the Xboner for 30 days before it can come to PS4?

I thought FarSight basically hated Mircosoft because of all the publishing issues on Xbox 360 and their tables having to be delisted and stuff. Are they really that retarded?

Glad I don't like pinball right about now.

Here's your final results, Pharm:

No need, the story gets a brief synopsis at the start of 2 and is the better game. Basically people wanted shiny things so they shot things that dropped shiny things until they could shoot other things that dropped the shiny things they wanted.

I assume you can read between the lines and changing something so late in development is not a "design choice". So you agree Borderlands is a run of the mill, fun game then? A 6.5 out of 10. B2 being a 7. Cool.

What is wrong with cashing in? Really?

dolla dolla billz yall

I really liked borderlands 1 and 2. I was a crazy elemental phoenix siren lilith in the first game and Hulking titan gunzerker salvadore in the sequel. great times.

this is the same company who funds table licensing with kickstarters. they have a niche, it's probably very small and I doubt they're raking it in.

It was clearly a design choice. They fell in love with Codehunters and copied their style, which was the right move because that style helped set it apart and turn heads.

Nope, don't agree with that at all, because it's not your standard run of the mill game. I'd give solid 8.5 and 9 ratings, maybe higher.

Yeah, what's wrong with cashing in? Rather see them tumble and go out of business? When you have millions of people screaming at you to just make anything and they will buy it...you fucking make something.

I'll chalk this one up to you being a fanboy. But you can have this:

during these trying times of arguing over borderlands and what wrencrest's name should be, it's easy to lose sight of what's important: portal 2 is really good and your lives are better for having played it.

Portal 2 is the worst Borderlands game ever, even worse than Ground Zeroes.

if you're not concerned with Borderlands canon, then why are you qualified to comment regarding what Gearbox, who is very much concerned with Borderlands canon, is deciding to put its product for their customers?

Are we being punk'ed by this guy? We're being punk'ed. Gotta be. He is the mercenary after all.
Don't believe we've met. Not sure why you couldn't respond in a single post. If having a variety of opinions makes me a "mercenary" I'll continue to proudly wear that cap. But thanks for at least getting to know me before throwing out that tired joke.

I care about Borderlands canon, obviously. What I'm saying is that I DON'T care that it might be split up on different consoles. The same way I followed Kingdom Hearts or Metal Gear Solid I will gladly follow Borderlands. So, again, it does not matter to me that it's set between one and two. How is that difficult to understand?

You'll just have to pay my complaints no mind on this. Borderlands is one of my favorite franchises. Absolutely love it so I'm just a little salty it's not coming to current-gen sooner. It's not so much that I need this installment to come to PS4...I just wanted the next Borderlands, whatever it turned out to be, on PS4. You and @cap are focusing on the game and I'm talking about the franchise.

And it is partly the responsibility of third parties to help move consoles. It's a symbiosis that Playstation has especially benefited from.

You bring up Heavenly Sword and I can think of other examples that might have sold better on newer consoles. Puppeteer comes to mind.

If there are any Nintendo fans amongst us, Best Buy will be having a B1G1 free on select 3DS games next week. Some stellar titles:

Pokemon X
Pokemon Y
Yoshi's New Island
Mario Party Island Tour
Mario Golf
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Bravely Default
Tomodachi Life
Zelda Link Between Worlds
Disney's Magical World.
And yes, GCU stacks.
Finally. I picked up a 2DS two months ago and haven't bought a decent game for it yet. Wish Lugi's Mansion Dark Moon 2 was part of the sale though.

Crunchewy sent me a great message on psn about adding me before the name change even though he will forget who I am and delete me later anyway. At least he apologized already.

I thought I was surrounded by matt's. Phew.
I'm not trying to argue with you anymore, and I thank you for linking me an actual article. But upon reading said article...we're still at the same point we were at. The only reason they changed all this stuff was to differentiate themselves from other games. In the process of doing this, they realized that all their "serious" gameplay elements weren't going to work with this design choice...and had to retool almost everything so that it worked.

This is a farcry from your quote, which sparked this whole argument...."You know they admitted the graphics of the original were due to them fucking up late in development, right?" Them changing the graphics of the original are what fucked everything up late into development.

Done and done. I almost had a panic attack that I spelled it wrong...
As what? Farmacrest? That would be funny in all kinds of ways.

I forgot to comment on this. Unfortunately, I own everything from that list that I'm interested in playing, and while I can trade in a couple to Gamestop or Walmart now and rebuy them at Best Buy next week, my gift-card balance at Best Buy is running a bit thin (~$300-$400) compared to my GS balance (~$800), so I'll probably just sit this one out unless, like Eldritch said, Target has some "funny" trade-in values at the start of that week.
