Microsoft has made Win 7 & 8 ISOs freely available for quite some time. Win 7 even has a nice grace period before you need to key it. (Not sure on Winh8)

I guess we have different ideas of freely available (I was glad I could get a legitimate download for Windows 7, insert golf clap here). But, as per usual they tend to try to limit usage of their older products while encouraging use of their current products. I get it, but it hasn't always resulted in consumer friendly practices. For instance, say you have a Windows XP pro serial laying around, or even worse a Windows XP Media Edition serial laying around. Windows isn't exactly very helpful when it comes to getting your hands on either of those install discs. I get that, they don't have to be...

Now, try buying just the disc off Ebay. Microsoft aggressively has those listings pulled. Once again, arguably their right, but to the obvious detriment of people who own legitimate Microsoft products. It fits their theme... I'll try to stop now, but I'm nowhere near a fan of their way of going about things. These are people that will ban you for doing things they previously said are ok, or the wrong color avatar. NSA collaborating, authoritarian jackasses. /rant

I recently decided to get back into PC gaming and I'm starting to see the pain PC gamers go through. I beat and 1000'd Velvet Assassin on the 360. I mainly did it because I was annoyed with the whole pay what you want $5 thing, but I guess giving them a dollar I probably wouldn't have spent otherwise is an odd way to show my annoyance.
