Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

It looks like that's a Squier. Not sure what I would pay. Someone got one for 180 and the other guys thought it was kind of high. I probably wouldn't pay more than 100 for a Chinese Squier used - and that would be the high end for a well taken care of axe.

Quick google-oscopy makes it seem like you've got a "Made in China" model. Might be fine for the Classic Vibe line of guitars.

I'll take a look at some of mine tonight to see if any of them start the same.

And the color scheme you mentioned makes me think that it originally had a white pickguard and it got switched out for red.

I think you're right. The first thing I noticed after I bought it was that the pick guard was slightly peeling at the edges.

I keep getting fret buzzing on some strings. A guy at the place where I bought it told me to adjust the saddles, but I'm not sure if I should mess with it.

They really don't want me to return it, but I don't feel like I should do extra work or pay extra to get it fixed unless I got a bargain. It looks like I probably got going price for it anyway. I just want to know for sure.

I wanted to share with you guys my newest addition. Been looking at this guitar for about a year and finally found a great deal on Craigslist. It a Traveler eg-1 with flame top. It's awesome. It is a compact guitar with a full scale neck made possible by its unique wrap-around strings setup. I took a pick of it next to my Fender Strat to show the size difference. It came with a hard shell case and a gig bag. I have both of those leaning up against a Les Paul case for size reference. It has an active out and built in distortion channel so you can plug in headphones & listen to yourself play. It also has an aux in so you can plug in an MP3 player or other source & play along to it through the headphones.

Now I just need to go on vacation so I can bring it along

Interesting pack. I'll be getting Skynyrd and Nugent for sure. I'm not really sure about Highway Star. Not one of my favorite songs. Simple Man and Stranglehold will be awesome though.

Also, more rumors are making their rounds about an X1/PS4 version of this game. It popped up on IGN now too. On one hand I'm very excited about it because turning on my X360 and flipping the TV to a different input and loading it up and blah blah blah. All of that takes time and effort and it would be so hassle-free to (especially if I download it) just tell my Xbox One to go to the game and it loads up automatically. I like that the X1 keeps your last played game always running. Allows you to just jump right into it.

On the other hand.. I really hope there's a discount with this upgrade for those of us that have the older version. Heck, I even have the original RS game. I've also spent hundreds on DLC. It would be nice for the game to be discounted for fans who have already supported the game. Would also be nice if they included some new tracks in it so as to give us a good reason to upgrade. Make it worth rebuying the game.

 
From what everyone has said, your DLC was come forward to the new version for free. I don't mind paying the whole amount for the game. There are so many that I wait for a discount to buy, but I'll give my money to the Rocksmith team any time... Of course, I got GCU for free today, so I'll get 20% off when it does come out! ;)

 
Of course I'll be sniffing out a deal as well. We wouldn't be called CAGs for nothing :p lol but I don't know I mean I wouldn't mind paying for a full priced game if they made it enticing enough. Throw in some extra songs (and I mean good ones) in there and they might just sell me on it. If it's all the same stuff the CAG in me is willing to turn my 360 on for a few more months until it drops in price and spend that 60 bucks on DLC instead.

 
Yeah - like an extra 10 songs or something. Especially if they were console exclusive (even for a set amount of time) would be cool. It's still a day 1 buy for me, but SOMETHING extra would rock.

 
Damn, been sooo busy this past week that I was never able to update the thread. with last week's DLC (and I like Sublime's stuff too).

And today I'm trying to sort out the mess of broken Destiny boxes (just want one unbroken case; so sue me for wanting a nice one to collect).  Sorry guys.

As for DLC, I'll try to update stuff tonight.  

And if the X1 & PS4 versions are legit, I think we'll see a DLC sale.  That's what happened when the original RS got a PC release.

Here's hoping anyway, so I'll be holding off on purchases until later in the year.

 
That's good to know. I went ahead and bought Simple Man and Stranglehold because they're pretty awesome, but I have a ton of older DLC I put off getting that would be insta-purchases if they went on sale.

Any bass players have recommendations for heavy gauge strings that won't break the bank?  I'm messing with some low drop tunings and the standard strings get real sloppy down there.  Appreciate any pointers.

Damnit...I got it on 360 but am selling that and going all ps4. I guess I'll wait for a sale on DLC...and also find a ps3 version of both games so I can at least import the first game songs. I just dont think I'm going to get an Xbone ever. Destiny is scratching the halo itch just fine so no need to replay old halos and halo 5...boo!

 
^ Xbox One has better games currently if you ask me.. but to each his own.

The RS2014 upgrade seems fairly disappointing to me. I was really hoping for extra content and features this time around, but Ubisoft literally did nothing to change it. At least give us some more songs. As it stands I will not be spending 60 dollars just to own the same game twice. I've given Ubisoft enough of my money on DLC, they don't need any more of it. Perhaps when the game hits $20 or under (Black Friday maybe?) I'll buy it. But right now it's pointless for any of us to upgrade.

 
I'd like it digitally, but I am not paying the full price just to have it digital. I'll pick it up at BB for 20% off with my free GCU membership and then sell it on eBay if it ever drops digitally, That's what I did with RS2014. Hopefully, they make a cable free previous owners version at BB like they did for 2014 on 360 and PS3.

Digitally would be nice on my X1, but honestly I can wait now. GTA V takes priority over this on current gen.

Plus I'm sure it will drop by the time BF rolls around. I remember I bought the original RS for 50 bucks including the cable just a couple weeks after it released. That's 30 dollars off just for waiting 2 weeks. I think we'll see similar deals this year.

 
Bought my first pack of Rocksmith 2014 today... That's pretty sad, considering how much RS1 DLC I had bought. Pretty happy to see Shinedown in, though. I pulled the ESP LTD Viper out of the closet today do do the drop tunings. I think I have a pack or 2 of Heavy top/Light bottom strings that I may put on this weekend.

You never bought the Doors pack? In my opinion one of the best packs in the game. A lot of fun to play.

Never been a Doors fan. Even when I was younger. I passed over so much on 2014 because I was learning a lot of current country from another site. I still am, but wanted to play a little Shinedown. I haven't played at all since my dad died, so it was a little kick in the ass that RS was releasing Shinedown this week. I only played about 10 minutes today, but it was nice to play.

Sorry to hear bro. Music is definitely a great thing to have in your life, even if you don't feel that motivation to play. You shouldn't give that up, I'm sure your dad wouldn't want that.

And country isn't really my favorite genre ;) lol but I do like old school country (I wish they would give us some Johnny Cash, Elvis, etc) and I did buy Simple Man by Skynyrd. Usually Rocksmith releases DLC I'm not really into week after week so it's hard to stay motivated but then I remember they have a ton of older DLC I never bought that's really great. I have about 60 bucks or so in my Xbox account right now so I could definitely buy a few packs and enjoy myself for a while but I keep hoping week after week they'll release some godly DLC that all fans want. I think Paul Cross recently tweeted that this fall/winter they would release some major DLC so here's hoping.

I'd love to see some hair band stuff. Those were some great riffs and songs. The Shinedown DLC was probably one of my 4 most wanted (Seether, Def Leppard and Tom Petty being the other 3). Just doing the little arpeggios in "Second Chance" last night showed me how much my playing has deteriorated in the last 2 months. Gonna work on it more tonight.

I probably will wait a while to buy the X1 RS... I JUST got this 360 and I only use it (pretty much) for RS, so it'd be a waste just to upgrade RS and never turn on the 360. Plus, there are NO upgrades in the next gen versions. They are straight ports. Not much reason to update there. Maybe when they add some MUST HAVE DLC in the fall, I'll bite on the upgrade. Or the first stupid good flip opportunity I have, I'll just move that money to RS.

 
Yeah severely disappointed with the new RS version. Like I've said before Rockstar is giving us a HUGE amount of new content and upgrades with their GTAV re-release in November. Ubisoft took a totally different approach to it and I don't think they really thought that through very well. They could've sold a lot more copies with even a little bit of effort. I would've loved to see features like a career mode where you play venues and setlists (would force me to play different kinds of songs more often), or 4 player support, or even online multiplayer. Would've also loved a few new tracks.

Oh well, I imagine next year in Oct/Nov we'll be getting RS2016 so maybe they'll implement all those features in there.

 
Funny enough I woulda re-purchased if they had released a WiiU version.  

Not interested in the X1 or PS4 at this time; just not seeing anything worth buying into either console.  Might change once Halo 5 rolls out, but it better not be more of Halo 4, ugh... Anyway, have they explained how they're resolving lag on the new consoles?

I also miss the journey & venues from RS1.  Don't know why buy I always thought UBI would release a remastered version of RS that woulda combined the best of both games and the set list from both games.

I'm still waiting for a Favorites patch so I can create and save various set lists... oh well.

 
I still don't understand why Wii U gets no love from RS2014. The game runs on 8 year old hardware just fine, would it kill Ubisoft to make the game run on the Wii U?

As for the lag, I think theriffrepeater.com has a Q&A up with a bunch of solutions around that. The HDMI is supposedly a lot better on the new consoles though but there are still ways to reroute your sound.

Good thing the Orange sparkle is OOS.

Besides, my blue sparkle Squier has been too much fun... more than the 90 sale price would have you believe :D . I've been thinking of grabbing a red one if they go on sale again.

TBH, I thought these SS' shoulda been this price LAST year, well maybe 500 max. The 800 street price just seemed absurd for a MIM guitar, even with all the glitter ;)

Annnd I'm gonna give the Kickstarter Backlund guitars one more shot (assuming they even try again). They NEVER should have cancelled the previous project, that close to the goal. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot

i love this thing. the one crappy thing about this "game" is that for most external speakers, there is a half-second delay between hitting a string and hearing it through the speakers; I have to change my sound output to the TV and therefore the sound isnt as great. it's also just annoying to repeatedly go through that process.

I hope they fix that BS. If not then I probably wont be getting the ps4 version.

The lag is inherent in HDMI to TV audio. It's why you have to go analog. On the X11, I know, they suggest using the optical audio (fine with me because I use TB XP400s). I don't remember what they said about the PS4, but it's probably going to be using something other than the HDMI audio to TV - I think they said tonise an audio receiver for the audio instead.
