PPV buys down again

WWE Battleground 2014 draws 99,000 buys on PPV

WWE recently released key performance indicators with an updated look at the numbers for the Battleground event that took place on July 20 in Tampa, Florida.

Total buys: 99,000
Domestic: 31,000
International: 68,000

The Wrestling Observer (subscription required) compares that to other shows this year:

As far as comparisons go, on the domestic side, it beat Payback (29,000) but was far short of Money in the Bank (53,000). Essentially what we can say is that Money in the Bank was a strong performance by the new standards. Keep in mind these domestic numbers are for the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, but the network technically isn't available in Canada.

It should be noted that last year's show, before the Network was launched, did 114,000 buys

im shocked they are breaking the 25,000 mark

If you haven't watched it yet I highly recommend watching Ladies And Gentlemen, My Name Is Paul Heyman like right now. Absolutely fantastic viewing from start to finish.

I bought it on Blu-Ray myself. Well worth it given the amount of extras included. Tons of Heyman promos from AWA, WCW, ECW, and WWF/E. Also on disc 2 there's a ton of extra stories from Heyman from his career.

Edit: The Ted. E Bear promo from AWA had me laughing hard.

Agreed, my second favorite wrestling dvd right behind Rise and Fall of ECW. Some of the stories he tells are absolutely hilarious/intriguing (Joey Styles wedding, how he got fired from SD, the text he left for Steph when Mae Young died, and his story about how he found out Tod Gordon was he mole were the best)

Match of the Year candidate. Marufuji vs. Morishima.

Not sure if he's posted in this thread, but CAG has a new member who has joined the Xbox One Madden 15 league. His user name is Heidenreich.

Could have reviewed NXT or Main Event or even the ROH event last night...but Total Divas? Get the fuck out of here with that crap.

Total Divas recap:  Nikki Bella has to freeze her eggs because John Cena will not allow any fluids to be spilled in his home.

Weird stuff going on with Michael Elgin in ROH.  Seems he may have lost the title due to wanting to play baseball, losing matches in other companies while champion, not filling out Visa paperwork in time, or some combination of all three.

Austin's is the best. Like the best friend grandfather you always wanted. Seriously good stuff. Austin comes across super friendly, open-minded, and incredibly warm. It's kind of ridiculous after you think about the kind of character he portrayed on TV but his good guy-ness kind of just radiates through the podcast.

JR's is relatively okay but it kind of makes you think less of the guy. It hurts your perception of the guys to such a degree that it lets you understand why Vince McMahon might have treated Ross like crap during so much of his run.

Jericho's is supposedly the other top one. Haven't heard much of that except he did a really good podcast with HHH.

Of the 3 main podcasters, I'd rate them: Austin > Jericho > Ross

Some other good podcasts I'd recommend are:

Attitude Era Podcast - 3 guys who rewatch all the ppv's (in order) during the Attitude Era and they are hilarious. They also sprinkle in special episodes here and there with stuff like Bash at the Beach 2000 (the one where Russo shoots on Hogan), Starcade 97, the UK WWF ppvs, etc. If you like this, I highly suggest the spinoff podcast called Cinema Swirl. One of the guys joins another guy and the schtick is that one of the guys has gone his entire life without seeing any of the "must see movies" and they give you their thoughts as he watches it. They just started it and so far have reviewed Star Wars A New Hope, Terminator 2, and Back to the Future.

Live Audio Wrestling - They have a show almost every day with different hosts recapping and giving their thoughts on Raw, NXT, Impact, and the ppv's. The best ones imo are anything with John Pollock and Wai Ting (they review Raw, Impact, and every Wednesday have a "Review-A-Wai" show where they review a lot of things from the past includin old ppv's, documentaries, even obscure stuff like CZW and Chyna's porno...).

Major League Wrestilng - The only good show that they have on here is Talk and Shop. It's hosted by Karl Anderson and Rocky Romero and they are absolutely hilarious. If you watch NJPW, then you'll get more out of it but they're still entertaining if you dont follow the product. They also have Jim Cornette's podcast on here but he's really hit and miss.

Attitude Era Podcast is fantastic. It's the only wrestling podcast I listen to but the guys have great banter, interesting analysis, and it's really fun to go back through the Attitude Era PPVs one at a time in order.

Was this NXT match unannounced ahead of time? Wasn't watching Raw, turned it on, and saw them say Zayn et am were up next.

I liked the opening focusing on the cage, then the hype video hyped it up more - it's a shame the cage stip itself wasn't really built up well. Jericho's cage dive was insane - Kurt's career is pretty much over after a moonsault off the cage, and Jericho landed right on his knee. Dolph's Miz bit was a slightly different change of pace compared to the Photoshop crap I was expecting. Divas tag was pretty memorable thanks to the titty tag. Heyman and Cena were fantastic for the first half, but when it got Cena-dominated, it started to suck a bit because Cena just came off like a giant sap, and if he can't get Brock, he'll kick Heyman's ass. So Cena basically wants to get what he wants, or he'll throw a tantrum. Sheamus-Seth was nothing. Mr. MITB can't even beat the U.S. Champ clean. I loved them hyping up NXT on Raw, but not even doing a graphic for the NXT match hurts it. The Bella-Springer thing was terrible, but at least had some butt crack and gave me some time to edit KENTA and Tyson Kidd in FPR with their new attire.

Dust Bros. beat Los Matadores, and got a new name - The Cosmic Twins. Usos beat up the heels from behind. More stupid shit with the Bunny, who did a suprkick to Slater and a splash to the Gator. Orton is. The Viper. He is. The Venom. But Roman Reigns. Is the Antidote. Roman needs unscripted promos. Hour 3 dragged terribly. Orton-Reigns was a boring, paint by numbers match. DQ ending was weak. SETH DIVES OFF THE CAGE...just like we saw in the opener. What is this? Impact? This show was honest to God exhausting to get through.

I try to keep up with NJPW so I may give this one a shot.

Seth, maybe next time don't try to fake-slide under the descending cage directly under the foot long metal spike.

I think so...seems like they might have toned down the scaffolding at the top so it's easier to climb over as well but not sure.

Sucks to hear about O'Haire. He wasn't known for his in-ring ability, but fuck me if those promos he did weren't awesome.
