New Windows install.

I didn't copy all the save game folders and didn't run GameSave Manager either, so anything that was in my old C partition and that wasn't backed up went goodbye... including my Ride to Hell savegame.
Good.

... I was almost done with the game. Now I have to do everything again.

In other happy news, I idled the cards for The Shivah (I'd already completed it with all achievements a while back), and I figured I'd buy the other three cards to make the badge. I did, and I got a decent background (the city skyline) and a Star of David emoticon.

I stepped away from the PC, had lunch, and when I came back... I had a The Shivah booster pack. I'm the only guy with one on the market, so I listed it, and hopefully it'll sell. Eh, I removed it and unpacked it. Didn't get a foil, so I might as well craft another badge. Later.

Sold a sealed boxed PC game on ebay the other day. Buyer opens up a dispute for a full refund with this as his reason:

You state in your post the item is new and sealed. Well the item is not sealed. The item should have arrived in a sealed clear plastic called a sync wrap my item arrived unwrapped. And furthermore the serial number or cd key is invalid. I cannot install the game probably dew to the fact that this game was installed in a different computer. I'm not a novice to pc games this is why I prefer new and untouched pc games. In closing I cannot play this game.
Damn, I knew I shouldn't have taken the sync wrap off that box so I could open the front flap and look at the additional details! Don't you hate how they put that pesky sync wrap on PC game boxes with front flaps? It's too bad the code doesn't work, since, y'know, it's not Steamworks, and it would hypothetically be a code for a one-time install, and with what he's saying he would have to request additional keys every time he reinstalls the game.

Idiot.

Damn, I knew I shouldn't have taken the shrink wrap off that box so I could open the front flap and look at it when I was in the store! It's too bad the code doesn't work on multiple PCs, too. I can't imagine the turmoil this non-novice will have to deal with whenever he has to reinstall the game if his code doesn't work.

Idiot.
1: What game was it?

2: If you posted pictures of the item in the auction, that prove it had actual shrink wrap on it, then you might be able to win.

3: Auction link please? And post the buyer's username too so I can block his ass. :p

Holy crap! You actually intend to finish that game? I lack the intestinal fortitude to endure an ordeal such as that. Hats off to ya buddy.

You guys seriously need to take your jimmie-rustling to PM or a sleazy motel room or reddit or something. Zounds!

My son has that book. Tigger gets jealous because Roo is better than him at bouncing up a hill. It's ok. I prefer I'm a T-Rex, Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site, and The Day the Crayons Quit for his bedtime story. If you are looking at older stuff, you can't go wrong with Frog and Toad.

Jonathan Kane: The Protector. It had the circle seal on top, as most boxed PC games do. You might be able to make out the flap you can open to see additional information. A lot of PC games have those, as I recall. But you can't see the circle seal on top, unfortunately. Sent the game out on Saturday, and he's already requesting a refund. That's some fast shipping and quick determination that he can't play the game. I assume he bought it just so he could dispute it and get the game for free. Here's his profile: http://www.ebay.com/usr/joseswift1?_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2754

I'm sorry, but you really left yourself open for a bait and switch. :(

When selling stuff, always take multiple pictures of stuff so people can't complain about a defect that's perfectly visible - or in this case, claim that an item was already opened before you sent it. I listed this a while back for a friend, and made sure all the pictures showed any issues in the package. You always have to assume the worst when it comes to buyers. Most are harmless but there are a few out there that are asshats.

If he's going to get his money, make him work for it. Accept the refund, but only if he returns the item first. Do not reply to him in the dispute, if you reply he can close it and get his money back immediately (I lost a dispute once and eBay refused to help me out.) As a seller, you're perfectly within your rights to ask for the game back before issuing a refund.

Oh, and by the way... The game doesn't have any sort of protection. From what I found by searching through less than legal sites... it does use the key to install. But that's it. The serial is completely reusable. The guy is trying to get the game for free, so fuck him.

Once you get it back, talk to me. I'll trade something for the game. It looks like my kind of thing - I'll take Beowulf and Pirates, too, just 'cause I like you and hate asshole buyers who bully new sellers like you.

Edit: I apologize if my tone seemed a bit condescending, I've been selling on eBay for several years and have a bit of experience dealing with these idiots. Some folks should not be allowed to buy things online.

So there was talk a while back about Shadowrun Returns (or it's DLC?) is getting a GOTY/remastered/give-us-more-money edition, I have the base game sitting in my inventory, should I activate it now or later?

It's the directors cut of the expansion. If you have the original dragonfall when it goes live you're supposed to get this one for free. This is the store page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/

Yeah it's for the expansion.  They're making it standalone (a lot of people said it was far better than the base game).  Not surprising the expansion is not on sale during this promotion.

This is correct. Unless you kickstarted the game, you probably don't have Dragonfall included with that base game, so it doesn't matter to you because activating a base game key now or later will still only get you the base game.

Man I have a mountain of new games collecting dust... this is so demotivating for me to ebay off my stuff. gaaaa! I hate people. :speaktothehand:
Yeah, I have a hard time convincing myself to put stuff on ebay, because once I sold something where I actually lost money because I calculated shipping incorrectly and another time I ended up getting charged fees by ebay for months after the thing sold. It really seems like you have to know how to work the site as a seller or you get shafted by ebay or the buyer (or your own ignorance).

I did list a Starcraft II art book I picked up on the cheap at a local book sale the other day and it didn't sell after 7 days so I said f*ck it, I'll just toss it in the closet. Sometimes it's less of a hassle just to let crap gather dust. If I ever go back to visit my brother-in-law in Houston maybe HPB will give me a few bucks in store credit for it.

Actually it's a little surprising. This is the last time they'll be selling the "add-on" version I would assume, so why not squeeze a few more pennies out?

There's going to be a free bundle in under 5 hours at GMG.  Looks like it's through GMG and has some must have games in it.  It'll include steam keys for:

  • Sanctum
  • Gun Monkeys
  • Canyon Capers
  • Eve Online - Core Starter Pack

Indonesian Steam sure is cheap and first victim found...

Rp 176 ~ $0.02

Jesus Tapdancin' Christ

I fully expect them to region lock all games there, though. Valve did that back in 2007 when a CD key seller from the region sold tons of copies of Orange Box for $18 and all keys were locked out after a few days. :p

Even at that price...Gun Monkeys is STILL not worth it (and the extra copy it gives you)

Sorry to hear about that. While I haven't been hit with that particular scam yet I have had people try to pull other shit with me before. The most recent one I can think of was getting at least 3-4 people asking me for the serial number on the Xbox One I was selling at the time so they could "verify" that it was legit.

I've got to say that it seems like more and more people have been getting away with shit like this on Ebay in recent years, and I think part of it is because they simply can. Ebay hardly cares about sellers anymore, and tends to side with buyers more often than not. For example ever since Ebay removed the ability for sellers to leave neutral or negative feedback towards buyers I started getting quite a number of people who would bid or use the Buy It Now on my auctions, then message me afterwards saying they changed their mind or "accidentally bought it" when they didn't mean to. They know Ebay's not going to really do anything to them and I can't leave them feedback so I'm stuck waiting a number of days before I can relist my item. It's ridiculous.

Thankfully I've recently switched to Buy It Now only auctions and I have it so they have to process payment immediately at checkout so I don't really get those types of buyers much anymore (I think I've only had one since then). But yeah, Ebay was so much better back in the day. It really is just a shell of it's former self.

The old system wasn't perfect, with the whole wait for the buyer to leave feedback, to leave your own feedback situation, but it did create some accountability on both sides and the way it worked was both parties had interest in resolving problems. Now, it's all on the side of the buyer, and while I understand that to a certain extent (buyer is always right, so on so forth), it removed half of the accountability. I didn't like a lot of the changes they made to feedback.

I just don't like most of the changes period, I don't know how it impacted them financially, positive or negative, but it seems like they were trying to make Ebay a lot more like Amazon. That to me removed a lot of the allure of using Ebay at all, Amazon does a better job of being Amazon.

Amazon's a lot worse than eBay because they don't have a way to force a disgruntled buyer to return the item. They can just file an A to Z claim and get their money back and keep the item. The only way to be safe is to sell new items, Amazon doesn't usually allow people to return items that were sold new.

Amazon is worse in a lot of ways, yes. But, Amazon also has a lot of advantages. It's just a completely different system or it should have been. Amazon, for sellers is better for people who are serious and know what they are doing. It can and probably will chew up and spit out people like Blade who are more casual, or I guess you could say amateurs. You could easily get killed on there, trying to make a buck and find yourself losing out on the equation. The feedback on Amazon is more demanding, people expect a higher quality of service.

But, Ebay mirrored a lot of what Amazon has done. They went to more of a buy it now format, and went away from the auction format that differentiated them. The changes in feedback are more similar to what Amazon has done (buyer is always right), and it just felt like Ebay was trying to take a bite out of what Amazon was doing, vs. excelling at what they were doing. Amazon was built to be massive, to have everything, to be a giant online store. Ebay was really built around more nuanced buyers, collector's and the like. More like the local comic shop. That's why the old system worked better in my opinion, if I'm selling some prized item from my collection, it's not some quick buck and it's every bit as special to me as it is to the buyer.

That's why you should simply gift 'em away here on CAG: we're very understanding blokes and know how to activate non-Steam games on the client with overlay and stuff. Sure, shipping costs will be on you, but that's a small price to (literally) pay for that warm and fuzzy feeling of having done something good for the community.
Trust me, you'll be better off this way.

On a related note, there's a list of CD-Keys which can be activated on Steam, so maybe that eBay guy was referring to that and didn't check beforehand if the game he bought was among them... but I think I'll go with the general consensus that he was looking for someone to mess with from the start, otherwise he really couldn't be able to pour water out of a boot if there was instructions on the heel...

While I really didn't care much for Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 I will say that I'm glad to see more Japanese games making it to PC (especially high profile ones like this).

Now if only Atlus would follow suit and start porting over their Shin Megami Tensei games.  At the very least Persona 4 Golden, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Persona 3: FES (or maybe an enhanced Persona 3 Portable port), Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, Nocturne and the Devil Summoner games.

Yes Atlus needs to bring some of their big titles to P.C. Stuff like God Mode or Rock Of Ages ain't cutting it.

Exactly.

Luckily more and more Japanese developers seem to be making the jump (just recently Aksys' Mind Zero and Mastiff's Gurumin have been Greenlit, and XSEED is going to be releasing Trails in the Sky: Second Chapter by the end of the year hopefully).

Plus with SEGA owning Atlus now (and with SEGA being somewhat PC-centric as of late) I'd like to think they would give Atlus the go-ahead to start moving some of their games to PC. It's wishful thinking, but I hope it comes to pass at some point.

Words n' stuff. Some form of rebuttal maybe? Um... uh... farts.
No, you are just wrong and silly. Also, I work in that field and have been an expert for many years. Now I am so frustrated that I am going to block you, but I still win. Welcome to Ignoretown, population: you. Also stop being such a nazi.
