Motiv pls.

They won a few donator only giveaways. Hardly anyone actually donates so it's very easy to win those.

Also, you won tonight too and you've also won a tonne from my live streams before!
Damn. Oh come on, it was only sarcasm. I always donate what I can to good causes like yours today and hardly plan on receiving anything in return. It's a donation after all to a great charity that you've helped many times.

I really didn't expect to take some heat for poking fun at a silly coincidence. Although it's hard to blame you with some of the riff raff complaining throughout your twitch streams. I have to imagine dealing with those beggars and complainers without losing it must take a lot of patience.

Apparently that makes me a horrible person dumbass too as other CAGs are in obvious agreement with you. I'm a little surprised, but maybe I've worn out my welcome. Anyway, thanks for Blockstorm. Nice work with the charity and for fundraising! £1,034.38 is a great total that will go to help someone in need and really that's all that matters.

Panda would probably respond if you PM'ed him with the request.

Hey, how many people bought the mouse and Steam card deal from Best Buy? OR How many got the FarCry4 w/ Samsung EVO SSD?

(not bad combos)
I did, but I may end up regretting it. Resale value doesn't come that close to purchase price, although I am gonna take a shot at calling for a price match. Newegg had the same mouse for $45+fs today.

Your use of sarcasm font in the post made sarcasm within sarcasm within sarcasm...Sarception gets confusing

Bought the 500GB Samsung 840 Evo. Now I have nothing left in my wallet and bank for Steam winter sale.

Soon I can blaze through these Source engine games with ease again. I guess I can work through my backlog.

Weird.. am I really that strange in that I prefer physical over digital? This is twice today it's come up. I still use Best Buys, Gamestops, but mostly Amazon for my PC purchases because I like having the discs.
Eh - for me, it really depends.

Depends on game's file size, how updates are handled, what game-client the game utilizes (if it does), if there's DRM, and especially price. Digital versions are often much cheaper than retail - which causes me very often to avoid retail.

Physical Copies

In some ways, I do prefer physical copies over digital normally since it's already done for you - since I won't have to back-up the entire game files to disc or my HDD. Saves me from using up blank CD's/DVD's or more external HDD space. Usually, though - if you are not buying a re-release, you're given Version 1.0. Also, if necessary - if I only need to download very few patches and back those up somewhere (CD, DVD's, external HDD) - that ain't too big deal here.

If you're buying a re-released edition and it's already up to date officially or they just ain't updating the game officially anymore - good, likely won't need to back-up any patches or anything of that sort.

It gets to be a problem when a game gets a ton of updates and the company doesn't use a system like Origin + Steam (that handles automatic-updates); and doesn't release cumulative patches. You would then have to find all the patches on the company's web-site (or some other site, if company's gone); download all the patches; and install them all in order. Now that, that's a pain in the neck -> i.e. see original retail versions of Company of Heroes (Non-Steam).

The other problem is - some gamers might not have BR-ROM/BR-burner drives in their PC; and companies ain't putting their PC games on BR discs at retail. Who the heck wants their game on 3-6 DVD's, if it's huge in size? Installs like that on multi-discs are annoying. If a game's huge and you do not have a fast connection: you might have not much of a choice, and it could be in your best interest to buy the game from retail, if it's being sold there.

Digital Versions

If you have a fast connection - the downloading part won't be a big deal. I have Comcast Blast - so downloading the approx. 60 GB from Steam for FF13 took around 40 minutes; and the approx. 40 GB download for both The Evil Within + Wolfenstein TNO wasn't nearly as long as FF13's for me.

For games using Steam + Origin - especially if it's a game that gets lots of updates, I'd rather just back the whole thing up on my HDD, CD/DVD, or re-download the game from the service. A ton easier, since I won't have to deal w/ any sort of issues that can come around from trying to get my game up-to-date or not. If it's up-to-date - things will be all set on a re-download or reinstall from the back-up. If the back-up isn't fully up-to-date from my back-up, then the service will just get the necessary files after the reinstall. No muss, no fuss.

Thank God that Relic later allowed for gamers to put their retail keys for Company of Heroes 1 games onto Steam or that gamers can buy Steam-versions of the game. Steam does a good job w/ handling updates, since it does it automatically. So, in this case - it's a ton easier in that case for me to back-up the entire Steam-version somewhere - and if I need to reinstall it, just get it from there; or re-download the game from Steam.

That's not strange I prefer digital for PC. But I also don't understand the mocking for wanting to get steam cards from retailers especially on sale. I have over a hundred games and have never put a cc on file with Steam because it's easier to budget with the cards.

Bleh.

Only if necessary, do you need to lock it down to 30 frames.

In most instances - I prefer 60 frames per sec as a cap. It just feels smoother, more fluid, faster (which can matter in games built for a faster-pace like COD series and Quake series), and it ain't too much of a big deal when you hit a performance drop.

Performance drops can be the big problem if your framerate's moving b/t 30 frames and 60. If you are at 60 frames and get slapped to say 30-35 frames for a bit and it remains there, you'll get a stutter for a moment or two once it drops from 60 to 30. At least when getting slapped down to that - being around 30 and above and not jumping around, the game still can run smooth if it stays in that ballpark. On games locked at 30 frames, if you take a huge performance hit - you will have stutters + gameplay speed slow-downs if you get a hit to 15 frames or below (Dark Souls PTD, anyone?). If you run into the single digits area - good luck finding that playable, as now you're entering (the unplayable) slide-show territory.

The problem is if a game's bouncing too much b/t 30 frames to 60 - you might want to lock it down somewhere in-between. You might want to find where it remains most - and lock it there, is possible; somehow and someway.

If a game doesn't have any in-game settings for setting a max framerate cap (most PC games don't have these settings in-game), then you have to do something else. Likely, you're going to have to test out V-Sync settings - whether in-game or from another program.

If you have NVidia cards - you might want to, in some situations, just shut off your in-game VSync and just use NVidia's solution. You can use NVidia Control Panel to lock a game down to a game 30 FPS w/ turning VSync ON to Half (which is 30 frames). Or, you set it have the game be adaptive and it'll decide on the fly, based on performance at the moment, if it should switch to 60 frames cap or 30 frames cap. If your game doesn't jump around much b/t 30 and 60; and the jumps/drops don't happen w/ bad timing (i.e. it happens when in combat) - then adaptive VSync might be for you.

I can't speak on how AMD's Control Center uses VSync - so, maybe someone can speak on that?

The other option is this: get a 3rd party program that allows for you to actually set the caps, actually gets along w/ the game, doesn't cause issues when running w/ the game. For me, sometimes the better option over NVidia or in-game Sync is a 3rd party program. I had to do this w/ Thief 2014. I locked Thief 2014 down w/ EVGA Precision X (Version 15) to 40 frames max and had no more performance issues; since that seemed to be where the game wanted to remain most when playing, on the graphical settings I liked to run it at on my rig. Once I did that - for the most part, smooth sailings.

Another problem is - some games, they were built for 30 FPS by the dev's b/c they made the animations sync ONLY to that. NFS: Rivals and Dark Souls 1 come to mind - as something goes completely out-of-whack, when unlocked. You'd have to figure out how to fix whatever went out the window by the INI files or by modding the game files - if you can figure out how to do so. Unlock the 30 FPS cap w/ Dark Souls, hit-detection goes out the window. Unlock 30 FPS cap w/ NFS: Rivals - controls, game-speed, and playability goes out the window. Games that were built for a solid 30 FPS cap - these games should never ever drop much below 25 frames, or the game's smoothness will go right out the window.

Final Fantasy XIII on my PC was bouncing all over the place w/ GeDoSaTo forcing it to 1080p. Beautiful-looking game artistically BTW - especially when forced out of its currently default-forced 720p. By default - when moving around the game-world (non-combat), the game is maxed-out at 30 frames; while combat flips to 60 frames max. In combat - it was bouncing all over the place in combat at any second b/t 30 and 60; namely when I was accessing the in-combat menus. Locking it down to 30 frames max w/ NVidia VSync ON to Half, problem solved.

<grumbles about kids too young to remember the cardboard folders>
We talking the 5.25" floppy folders? Because I had nothing but issues with those and would NEVER store them in them once I bought the disk. They immediately got filed into the rolodex.

And I understand the digital love (esp. on the Steam thread), but having physical has saved me from "losing" games when stuff like D2D or what-have-you transfer over or bottom out (not that Steam can do that). I also can trade them around if friends want to borrow stuff.

There is no way I'm storing 2000+ game cases and 1000+ DVD/Blu-ray cases to display anywhere.

Put 'em on a huge external HDD, if need be.

For games huge in size that would be on too many CD's or DVD's - that's where I put 'em.

Especially if they're over 20 GB's.

At some point in the night, Amazon dropped Skyrim: Dawnguard to 66% off ($6.69) for the first time ever, and had their shelves cleaned out by Amazon's Euro-crowd. <grumbles>

Yes, those!

Personally I hated the oversized packaging that became popular later. I never had much room/space so I'd have to collapse those down. I'm a fan of the DVD-box packaging (though it still adds up, 10-boxes/foot) when I have to resort to physical... nicely standardized too.

The very old-school big boxes were too big (mid 90's - think like the huge-box for say MechWarrior 2 Mercs). I prefer the smaller mini-retail box (which normally had jewel cases inside or paper shelves - think say Morrowind's original retail box); and skinnier/slim DVD packaging (think AC2 DVD case).

In the mini-box: if I need to put boxes and games together somehow, I can just toss them in the mini-box, if there's some room. I could throw them in paper shelves (if I don't care about the game itself); the case it came with (if I like what it came with), or whatever - then toss them in the mini-box. I still have plenty of DVD-style jewel cases, slim cases, and paper shelves - just in case.

The nice thing about the PC cases that opened-up w/ the DVD-pole attached to them (think Fable: TLC retail, STALKER SOC retail, HL2 Ep 1 retail, Orange Box retail) - you can shove multiple discs on the pole (normally about 4-5). It's nice if you have multiple games from the same franchise, company, or something - and you just want to put it altogether.

Fairly tempted to grab Forced - Of course, I know that if I DO buy it it will be bundled within a week or two.

The question is if I don't buy it how long will it take and do I want to wait that long?

Decisions. Decisions.

$2.81 on BundleStars, or are you looking at a different deal?

you should see a ton of skyrim legendary editions come up for trade soon. BBY/amazon were selling TES anthology for $12-15 over the past few days, and it includes steam key for skyrim legendary (it all comes in a box with discs, a map, and keys). Since a lot of people have previously bought SL for $5-10 in various sales, they should be ready to trade it away for relatively little.

Really tempted to get wolf and valkyria and blow the rest of my gmg credit

Thanks, I've posted those. I just need Dawnguard, and I hate trading. This was the first time Dawnguard has been sub-$8 (excluding a brief everybody-gets-dawnguard-now-we're-yanking-it-outta-your-libraries oopsie)

Funny you mention that because I remember the original FFVII box and I was FURIOUS because it wasn't a standard box but this weird trapezoid looking box. It didn't fit right on my shelf with the rest of them.

I wish they'd do another MechCommander. I loved those games. (sorry Mech Mercs got me thinking about it... I loved that game as well and have the disc for it in the binder).

Yeah, that's the one.

PS - I grabbed Banner Saga (Android) using amazon coins per your post the other day (thanks). I then decided that I'd rather play it on PC so I have spent a few hours on and off in the last 2 days trying to get the andyroid emulator running properly. :fistshake:

Strange? No. Stuck in the past? Yes. You might as well get used to digital because physical discs/box copies won't exist for most new PC games in a few years.

The Wolf Among Us seems pretty decent ($9.99 at GMG VIP), but I can't help but think it's going to drop a couple of bucks in the next month or so.

Apparently that makes me a horrible person too as other CAGs are in obvious agreement with you. I'm a little surprised, but maybe I've worn out my welcome. Anyway, thanks for Blockstorm. Nice work with the charity and for fundraising! £1,034.38 is a great total that will go to help someone in need and really that's all that matters.
That's my bad there, sorry about that. It didn't seem right coming from you as I've seen you in the stream a lot.

To be honest, I think tebow probably understands more of the memes/jokes around here than I do :)

At least I don't think it hurt to explain why there were some repeated winners.
