Chrome OS is a much simpler operating system. I haven't heard of any reports of malware and viruses targeting Chrome OS.So the new streams still get viruses and shit and chromebooks dont? That is why I was looking at chromebooks to begin with as I dont want to have to mess with any updates to software or anything.
If all you want to do is get online to web browse and check email they work really well. Printing can be an issue though on older printers. They aren't running a full OS so printing is done through the Cloud. The simplicity (and much smaller market share) makes them a much smaller target. We don't print a lot but when we do it is from a Windows machine. My 3 or 4 year old laser printer doesn't support Google Cloud Print. If you need MS office I wouldn't recommend one though.
If you can wait a few more weeks. New Chromebooks are coming out based on the lastest Intel CPU/chipset. Mostly better battery life. Even if you don't need that it should drive the prices down on the older models.Yeah, I wouldnt do anything but surf the net on it. I have a laptop from work for anything serious. And I dont play any games on PC. So chromebook is for me then.
