To the person who asked about HP computers, i just bought the HP stream 14 and love it!  Only $200 for a 14" chromebook killer with full windows.  only 32gb solid state drive, but I also got a TB of cloud storage.  Battery is 9-10 hours for me thanks to its minimalist approach.

$300?

Also as far as the car talk I missed over the weekend, keep in my I work in car loans and know the ins and outs of the back end to car buying and loans.  I get to see everything dealers do and charge customers.  As long as they abide by our regulations they can do what they want with cars.  I know what to look for and what is normal practice.

I posted a bunch of tips and info in the CAG finance thread in my Auto buying guide

Wait... 32gb? What version of Windows is it?

Windows 8.1

If you want to run Windows 8.1 on your PC, here's what it takes:

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)

RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
That's a bit left over, but not a lot. Might be worth upgrading the drive or maybe picking up a ~250GB SSD for around $150 and swapping it out. 10-16gb is not a lot of free space when you consider Office apps and the other stuff most people use.

Only sandwichs I've ever gotten there are the Wreck and the meatball sub. Both damn damn good. Oreo shakes are also a good Treat Yo Self and come with little tiny shortbread cookies on the straw.
Cool. I'm going there today looks like. I think I'll try that Wreck sandwich.

I didn't catch the dlc bitchfest about evolve that the internet has apparently been having, but I'm bummed to hear it. I think the biggest shame is that there only three monsters in the game without dlc? And the new ones will cost $15 each? That sucks.

But it's their dice to roll I guess, maybe people will pony up $60 for the game and another $60 for dlc because it's that awesome. I'm out though.
You think they're in an uproar now, just wait until the game's released and they find out all the DLC is already on the disc.

HP stream is windows aint it?

I bought my wife a HP chromebook (cause it was teal, her favorite color) for christmas of 13, she loves it. It was like 250ish I think?

Not 200, but close.

ETA: Also, that isnt the Chromebook version, but the Windows version which is what bestkeeper is saying he got. I think...
Yupp full windows 8.1. All in all I had 18 gb left over to use, and it has a SD card slot for expansion up to 64 GBs. I am just using it for school, and I got it for $200 since I had a student email I got a student discount. After taxes and buy office I spent $305 out the door. If you get the Stream 13, it comes with office for free, however the graphics card and processor is half of the 14"

The 13 only comes in blue and pink though as well

If you look at the reviews it says there is no point to mess with chromebooks with the release of these pcs. No worrying about compatibility since it is full windows, and the computer runs perfectly fine with a quad core and 2 gb of ram, it isn't for gaming(although i have been able to run some of my steam games on it fine).

I would probably buy my wife the 13 one right now if not for that god awful mouse pad. The lack of buttons make those things all but useless IMO. Since she mainly uses the computer on the couch a wireless mouse isn't much of an alternative.

The problem isn't the buttonless mouse pad style, but rather that most non-Mac computers do a shitty job with the functionality. The Mac touchpad works great even without buttons. Whether the HP has a good touchpad I dunno, though.

These cheap windows computers are capable enough...I just picked up a 7 inch windows 8.1 tablet for $38 after selling the included Office 365 sub for $30 on ebay. It has a micro HDMI port, full usb port, micro usb port, and micro sd slot. It can drive a 1080p monitor and play 1080p video without issue. For the $38 I paid it's going to be a fun little toy.

Ah, Keeper said chromebook.  He also got a student discount.  $229 still sounds like a good deal though.  If you can find it that cheap.  Its sold out and every where else I looked (not that far, just the first page on google) are either sold out or $300.  So my initial question of him.  $200?  Was fair.

I got my wife an 11 stream over the holidays and it's not a mac touchpad (none are) but certainly use-able.

As I said the other day, the HP laptop my wife got from her work has an astoundingly terrible trackpad. Godawful. Not sure if the mentioned cheap laptops use the same design, but probably? You pretty much have to use a mouse with it, unless you like being angry.

I just got to work on an Acer machine much like your HP Stream was nicer then I would have expected in a $300 or under machine. It was a coworkers kids computer. He had it pretty screwed up with malware. If he didn't play Minecraft I would have suggested to her getting a Chromebook next time. Not having to deal with viruses and Windows updates is such a pleasure. Picked up a Chromebook Acer C720 about a year ago I guess. Other then the small screen my wife loves the machine. Lightweight decent battery life etc. Will probably grab a newer Chromebook sooner or later maybe with a larger screen. For simple surfing they are pretty nice.

I messed up and accidently beat the boss again in rogue legacy. My son kept telling me to go for it every time I walked by the door, so I went for it finally with a spellsword with a chakram and just tore both versions apart in a minute. Now im in new game ++ and can't even get past the main castle. Luckily I'm getting 2-3 upgrades every time I die even if I only kill a handful of enemies so hopefully im leveled up soon enough. I even had to equip a grace rune to not instantly get killed. I do love that all the enemies are upgraded versions. Crazy that the bosses are kinda easier than just mook bad guys.

I guess I didnt know there was such a thing as a chromebook killer so I glossed over the killer part. I am not a tech geek like the rest of you and hadnt researched new laptops in a while. Never knew they came out with this whole line. Last I saw they were laughing at google for coming out with chromebooks. I guess they were making too much money then so microsoft had to do something?

I went to the MS store... they had hundreds of them. Plus the online listing goes in and out of stock fairly frequent. If you can't find the 14, the 11" and 13" are pretty good too.

As for the trackpad, I had to turn all the shortcuts off as they are definitely not like a mac, but I still use the scroll. Other wise the trackpad works once you get used to the no buttons.

So the new streams still get viruses and shit and chromebooks dont? That is why I was looking at chromebooks to begin with as I dont want to have to mess with any updates to software or anything.

The thing you have to be careful with chromebooks is compatibility issues with things like office and other programs. The fact that windows came out with a full windows "netbook" that is 11", 13" and 14" at the same price or cheaper than chromebooks is amazing. These HP's if you read the reviews are getting very high marks due to price and what it packs in, I love mine so far and it does so much! This coming from an Apple apologist who owns an Imac, Iphone, Ipad, and had a macbook for 7 years as well

It is a very basic OS that nobody would waste their time with viruses. If you are only trying to surf the web and nothing else, chromebooks are good. But if I can get a full windows laptop for the exact same price and run Steam, my games, and program I need for school as well as several other things and the apps that windows has versus just the google store that are compatible... it's not a good value.

What level are you at? I'm on ng++ at 189 and I just have to rush all the rooms looking for silver chests or mini bosses. I still have 8 blueprints left and I'm not excited about the 15 death trophy.

Yeah, I wouldnt do anything but surf the net on it. I have a laptop from work for anything serious. And I dont play any games on PC. So chromebook is for me then.

Anyone ever get a spellsword with time freeze? I keep crossing my fingers...

I think prob 200 something after last night. I havn't got out of bed yet today, im just watching tmz/dish nation. I'll start some games and work in a bit. yeah iv just got blueprints and 15 deaths left also. I missed a bunch of blue prints tho, and I meant to grind the new game + til I had all but dark set, but now that plan is gone. so yeah, just trying to survive long enouugh to find a few more blueprints.

also tehcro, how did you do the 15 deaths? save spam the bonus rooms or just play normal or any tips?

Googledocs works just fine on a Chromebook and can do anything that Office can. While I agree there are things that it can't do, like Steam, using Office as a reason is really not a valid argument.

My Chromebook does fine and it's one of the older models. It's going to vary quite a bit by manufacturer and age will also be a big factor.

PM me if you would have any interest in a used one. My wife is pressing me to get a Windows machine for my oldest. I might be getting rid of his.

Chromebooks can be good if you know linux. I also have a C720 except I'm running Linux as well as XBMC on it via a chroot with Crouton. It's a really quick machine. When you are in Chrome it's a super snappy browsing experience. If you can get around certain things like playing Spotify instead of .mp3s, using google apps instead of Office, etc. etc. it can work. Windows definitely has more to offer program wise but with that freedom comes the viruses.

I'm hoping to see Google to do more with the chromebook and an Android phone. The features have been trickling out but I'd like to see full integration eventually.

This is exactly what I do with mine. Works great for surfing and using the Google apps.
Keep track of the PSNOT pinball tournament!

If anyone isn't getting enough Pinball Arcade fun, there's an official timed tournament on PS3/Vita this week on these tables:

Fish Tales™

High Speed™

Bride of Pin*bot™

Tee'd Off™

Eldorado City of Gold™

Gorgar™

Centaur™

Big Shot™

Potbelly's was excellent.  Puts Subway to shame, and I'd say it even has a lot better flavor than Jimmy Johns.  I got the Pizza Sandwich (I'll get it with no mushrooms next time cuz it was overloaded with them) and FWB got the Wreck.  Really good and decent prices.  Maybe some of you big eaters would still be hungry and need 2 sandwiches, but I was very content with just one.

Chrome OS is a much simpler operating system. I haven't heard of any reports of malware and viruses targeting Chrome OS.

If all you want to do is get online to web browse and check email they work really well. Printing can be an issue though on older printers. They aren't running a full OS so printing is done through the Cloud. The simplicity (and much smaller market share) makes them a much smaller target. We don't print a lot but when we do it is from a Windows machine. My 3 or 4 year old laser printer doesn't support Google Cloud Print. If you need MS office I wouldn't recommend one though.

Any sandwich place puts that place to shame.
