There are no details at the moment for what the prize for buying Foul Play offers, so I'll post that whenever it's announced.

Edit: From the PlayStation Heroes app on PS4, the Foul Play promotion is for a trip to PlayStation Experience in December. Once you purchase the game, you're supposed to go here to register for the actual contest, though you should wait until the page is updated for the PlayStation Experience promotion instead of whatever it's on at the moment.[/customspoiler]

Well I bought my first retail Vita game yesterday (on Amazon),  P4G.  I figure it's time for me to get back into the series and play through them all* (*just Persona 1->4 for right now).  So I started 1 on the PSP last night.  Such fond memories of playing this on PS1.   I also remember why I gave up before finishing the game... it's hard for me to get consistent time at a tv & console but a handheld is not a problem.   The PSP version is excellent!

I think I could use a good Atlus sale right about now.   And I can already imagine soon I'll be grabbing one of those Borderlands 2 Vita bundles if I keep putting a lot of time into my PSP despite buying that PS-TV bundle last week.

...

As for games I'm actually planning to buy at launch... the only thing I'm currently planning on is Yakuza 5 (pending the price) though that's completely out of character for me these days as I know I won't get to actually playing it for a long time.

I got Rebirth 1 on the Flash Sale. Besides Conception II I didn't want anything else. I'll wait for Conception II to get cheaper on the Vita. I might try out the demo to see if I like it or not. Now I got to clean out my 16gb memory card to make room.

I must say I'm enjoying the PSP game Neo Geo Heroes Shooting Collection a lot more than I expected to. The first stage is really easy, but there's a lot of fan service for SNK fans and the fact that King of Fighters Sky Stage is included as a bonus game is pretty neat.

KOFXIII would have to be the worst place to start, only beaten by Blazblue. KOFXII on the other hand would be perfect for fighting game beginners with its manageable character roster, limited movesets, custom combo on impact, and no cheap boss - or any boss - to fight. It's the Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest of fighting games. You couldn't ask for a better intro to (2D) fighters.
This is like, the first time I've seen anyone recommend KOF XII for any reason. It's basically an early beta of KOF XIII... I personally would steer clear.

If you're looking for a first fighter, something that will introduce you to the basics, Pocket Fighter is probably your best bet. Simplified controls, cute graphics, not especially demanding, and a good way to familiarize yourself with the Street Fighter universe and its characters.

Are there any deals on buying PSN dollars out there? Also what is the best deal one can expect on PSN dollars? 20% off?
Typically 20% is the best you can expect, Best Buy ran it last week.

If you're not opposed to a credit card then the Playstation card through Capital One is my goto card for PSN purchases. $50 PSN sign up bonus and 10% on all purchases.

I second this. I pay for most of my bills/groceries/meals with that card, and as a result, I rarely buy PSN credit anymore. An average of $10-$15 in free PSN credit every month is pretty sweet.

I do the same thing with the Chase Amazon rewards card. I've been hoarding my rewards points for a while now and pretty soon I should have enough to cash in for a PS4.

Yeah I also have the Amazon credit card. I can use it to buy point from amazon however I am not trying to save it to buy a WiiU :)

What are you talking about, conspiracy? It's evident the last few weeks have not had the normal ps+ discounts. I totally agree with you it may or may not last, but noticing and commenting on their lack is perfectly normal.

You want stats, fine.

This doesn't include DLC/F2P type stuff. Counts are approximate, I counted quick using my eyes, might be off by a couple.

Day 1 discounts not included because that's not what is being discussed.

Update 2/10 --
0% of sale games had additional discount.
around 70 games on sale.

Update 2/3 --
0% of sale games had additional discount.
around 24 games on sale.

Update 1/27
0% of sale games had additional discount.
around 34 games on sale.

Update 1/20
1% of sale games had additional discount.
75+ games on sale. I think one old game had a ps+ discount (switch galaxy ultra).

AND THEN

Update 1/13
Well over 100 games on sale.
All but Dead Space 3, Knitt Underground, RIPD, Stick it to the Man, big sky infinity, boss, conception 2, indoor sports world, pure chess, and tabletop racing had ps plus discounts.
so... over 90% HAD discounts.

1/6 -- only dlc was for sale. no discount, but dlc not included in this so it's a wash.

12/23 -- estimating around 66% had additional discount.... 80+ games, lots of dlc mixed in. but most certainly had a discount.

12/16 -- ~66% (2/3s) had additional discount -- around 75 games on sale, around 48 had additional discount.

12/9 -- around 48 games. all but 7 had discount. so... call it 80%.

-------------------

Going back further, quick eyeballing tells me 60-90% of games usually have an additional discount.

The past 4 weeks had 0%.

That resulted in a column full of N/As. It's hardly a conspiracy theory to wonder if they got rid of the column that was making people freak out.

It's also quite normal for people to be concerned at this point. As recently as last week, I was on your side -- 'too soon to tell'. But to suggest people are crazy and acting like nothing is going on is silly. Clearly, there have been no additional ps+ discounts for a month, and people are going to be concerned.

You'd be crazy not to notice the last few weeks have been missing the normal ps+ discounts. Whether it's an anomaly or the new standard is still up in the air, but c'mon, calling it a conspiracy theory for pointing out they just got rid of the column for it is out of line.
Totally agree with this. And I hope that this just is an oddity, but four straight weeks with absolutely no additional discount is disconcerting. In comparison, and this is not a console war thing, Xbox Live is having a huge sale this week and 100% of games have an additional discount with Gold.

I used to think the discounts on PS+ were insanely good at times. Let's just hope Sony gets back on track.

Typically 20% is the best you can expect, Best Buy ran it last week.
20% off is very rare, and is probably the best you can expect. BB did 10% last week, not 20% (online was straight 10% off, in-store was B1G1 20% off, which is effectively 10% off each, or worse than 10% off each if you don't buy cards of equal value).

Length isn't the best metric for game value but it's definitely one that's important. For example, you wouldn't spend $100 on a game that lasts 20 minutes. You wouldn't spend $10 on a game that lasts 1 minute. 5 hours for $60 is at the very edge of being acceptable. I would think you should get at least 2-3 hrs per $20 or you're at a level where it's less entertainment value for your buck than new release movies.

there was a conception II on awd ln for 17$ this morning so you may want to periodically check a price tracker.

You don't know me too well.

If the game was Shenmue 3 and the actual story length was 20min and it was just $100, I'd be down for that because I could just explore and extend the experience as long as I wanted. Heck when I bought "What's Shenmue?" and imported it from Japan I knew the game probably wasn't even that long and was in a language I couldn't understand yet I happily forked over good money for it. It's like when I bought Real Sound 2 for the Dreamcast (also Japan only) to get the demo disc for D2 that was bundled in that had some original content. Good times. Real Sound 2 for me was unplayable because of the language barrier, but that demo was what I was after for my collection and the experience.

Passion for a franchise can make somethings worth more than the length of the core experience.

Certainly length can be a good metric to gauge a game by, but I don't need the single player experience of a fighting game to last 40 hours to get the most out of the game. A good 20 min (or so) single player experience is plenty since it's not really what fighting games are all about.

I'll be very curious to see the prices of the games in the Critics' Choice Sale, but unless there's some significant discounts, I won't be spending money in any of the sales.

Most of the prices have updated. Never Alone is a must buy for me, probably nothing else right now.

Also $44 is a great price for the Telltale Collection if it includes the Season Pass for Borderlands and GoT. The description makes it sound like it might not.

So I am interested in:

Gladiator Begins $7.99

Blazing Souls Accelerate $4.99

Ragnarok Tactics $4.99

Have any of these games been lower in price in the past? Also do these PSP/Vita downloadable games get cheaper over time?

Hmm... Just got a PS TV and heard good things about Muramasa Rebirth.

Damn. Between buying the PS TV, a few other Vita games and some of the Xbox Ultimate sale games, I'm killing myself here.

Going to try to skip on the PS4 deals.

sweet traded in DA:I a week ago because I just wasn't playing enough, now I can pick it up digitally. Shadow of Mordor trades in for $19 base at best buy right now, kinda tempted to go digital on that too.

If you never played it South Park is an excellent game, its too bad they never did a ps4 remaster.  Weird not seeing Wolf Among Us only on ps3, thought there was a ps4 version too (already have it on PC).  TR PS4 for $14 is a great deal, awesome game if you never played it.  Same with Metro Redux and Diablo 3.

For the inevitable question, the Deluxe edition of DA:I isn't really worth it, the gear is all replaced by level 6 and the only items you keep are the mounts and a throne skin.

damn pretty awesome sale this week between PS4 and xbox one

Decent prices, but IMO going digital only should be cheaper than retail since you cant resell.

I just got far cry 4 for 30 on amazon, I can play it for a month and trade it in for 15-20. Paying 35 for psn version doesnt make sense IMO

Is the Muramasa Rebirth DLC worth getting now for later when I have the game buried in my backlog?

Would be nice if they discounted the Muramasa DLC individually, instead of just the whole pack. Paid $2.50 each for the first two when they were on sale a while back, and even though effectively paying $3.75 each for the last two wouldn't be THAT much more, it feels wrong to buy it when I could've been getting all four for a little under $2 each if I had never bought the first two to begin with! To bite the bullet, or hope for a better deal in the future...

Oh man why did you have to point SoM TiV out. I am very tempted to go digital too. There is just something about being able to go into and out of games without having to swap discs that makes me just want to switch completely =|

Is the TellTale Game Bundle A Good Deal For 44 dollars? Tempted to buy it
It really depends how many of the games in it you already have and if you like those kinds of games. I already have Walking Dead S1 and S2, Wolf Among Us, and Episode 1 of GoT on disparate platforms, so I think I'm going to hold off. Also, given how easy it has been to get cheap Microsoft $ vs. PlayStation $, I'd be more likely to get it on X1 for the $55 sale price than on PS4 for $44.

There is a bunch of stuff I'd buy in this sale if my PS wallet were as well funded as my Xbox account.

Jeez, with the PS+ discount it's $2 cheaper to buy the Outlast+Whistleblower bundle than it is to buy just the Whistleblower dlc.

I've been waiting for Styx to reach $10. I might bite at $12.

Stupid question but $12.49 is the sale price on Muramasa, right? Just don't see the little slash through an original price.

It's a good looking sale this time around there's a few games I'm interested in buying. These sales are killing me, there's been at least one game I end up buying every week, lol...  :whistle2:

OlliOlli (can't pass it up this time)

Gladiator Begins

Magrunner: Dark Pulse - Can anyone tell me about this game? Looks interesting, just want to make sure I'm not buying a dud.
