Juries out on Cities. I've been snagged a couple of times. The last one was apparently because I didn't have a high school. The little workers were looking for some educated people apparently. And since I didn't have a high school, the residences weren't growing. Such a silly little thing.

Problem was, at that point I had to choose between firefighting (10k), police (12-15K) and high school (25k). I dunno man, maybe I'm just not made for the city-building genre anymore. I don't have time to read all the ins and outs and youtube vid's to figure a game out.

And that's the last thing I'm saying about Cities.
the point of the game is to royally fuck your city, so youre actually doing really well

Honestly, if you spent as much time trying to learn the game as you did trying to complain about it, you'd probably have figured it out by now.

What I expect from games is a manual or some sort of baseline for the rules. This goes for ANY game. Give me the basics and I'll figure it out. Games that fail to give you even the basics are silly. Further, they then punish you for it.

"What.. you were supposed to know that you were supposed to click that button 20 minutes ago..."

But the thing of it is.. it doesn't even TELL you that you're making the mistake (or made a mistake 30 minutes ago). The screens that are supposed to give you "helpful" information aren't populated with necessary identifiers.

Let's use a brutal game. Demon Souls. That games brutal right? But even the first few things it explains things to you.

"Hey, you're going to die. Hey, so you're going to die alot. Hey look a pattern. You think you should.. you know.. take advantage of the pattern?"

When it's something with as complex mechanics as a city builder.. yea, when I click the little question mark, I'm looking for a god damned answer and not some spiele on how to color in items. I'm looking to find out why my population has a frowny face. If you're going to dumb it down to a happy or frowny face, don't you think I should be able to click the frowny face? If you go into the upper menu's clicking on the face gives you whether or not they want more residences, commercial, or industrial. That's it.

So my town... I added a high school. Now.... every one of my industrial's has qualified educated workers... but they have almost ZERO non-educated workers. All of them are crying. So what does the game expect? About 20% of my real life high school graduating class (1400... so around 280) failed to graduate on time. But in the game, apparently all the kids are graduating.

How am I suppose to trial and error my way into forcing the game to make kids fail out of school so I can have factory workers? It's counter intuitive. And stupid.

Dammit, I thought I was done talking about Cities....
Ok, here are the basics. Build roads, housing, industry, and basic needs. Done. Everything beyond that will be trial and error, pretty much the same for every other city builder you will ever play.

Look at all you hipsters playing Cities.

The cool kids are playing State of Decay with that mod that stops zombies running and makes them walk everywhere like in PROPER zombie movies.

It's nothing to do with making the game easier. Oh no.

:whee:

I'm pretty sure Skylines has a PDF manual in the games folder.  That said, I'm a little surprised it doesn't have even a modest tutorial given how well people read PDF manuals.  And the tool tips are a bit lacking although I've managed to figure it out regardless.

Cities discussion is interesting.  I admit the game looks interesting, but I've never been huge on city builders just because I tend to get frustrated and quit pretty easily.

IIRC both Paradox and the specific devs of Cities aren't usually ones for in game tutorials.  I remember rage quitting Cities in Motion when I tried to play it and couldn't figure out how to do what the game told me I needed to do to complete the objective.

So I can definitely understand the frustration in the game, but it does sound like the point of these types of games is to discover/figure things out on your own.  I mean that is the game itself.  If it tells you how to do everything you need to do then there's really no game to be played.  That would be more of a time management game that a city builder/sim.

Also, I caved on Escape Dead Island and Haunted House.

Also, Zoe says "FDSA32WQ"

Man, this Crusader Kings 2 game is great!  You can enjoy it too, right after you watch six to eight hours worth of Youtube tutorials before starting your first game...

It is only me, or Amazon prime's delivery time is not what it used to be? I bought a couple of things and it took them almost a week to deliver...

Some items take time to ship for whatever reason. But if they gave a "guaranteed" delivery time and missed it, go bitch at 'em until you get your free month of Prime or five bucks or whatever to shut you up.

If you want a piss-ant controller to use with your PC games, you can get the following dealio at AmazonNotJosh.com:

XBox 360 Wireless controller w/USB Transceiver for $35.00 Free shipping (not prime) $40.40 (Amazon Prime) from Circuit Shitty Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWKQ/

EDIT: Apparently there is some question regarding whether or not you get the USB transceiver with the controller.  Apparently people that ordered directly from Amazon have received the USB transceiver....YMMV

Took me FOREVER to log into my GOG account, but I was able to snatch a copy of the 30k free.  Rise of the Triad OG was some good memories in high school..... ;)

For Cities:
Apparently I'm not the only one having this issue:  http://steamcommunity.com/app/255710/discussions/0/610575007204491860/?insideModal=1

The reported "solution" is to build a sub community away from schools.  Because.. you know.. you need some uneducated people in your districts.

So maybe it's just because it's 1 pm.. but Steam updated and has this screen that says "Click to Sse all 1 products on sale this week" and it's a game called "Mount your friends".  Seriously.

We're all about the best in both worlds here.

Dagnabbit. It's not free anymore.

Thanks Obama. :nottalking:

Luckily I already own it on Steam.
I actually gave an 8 minutes heads up before the giveaway even went live in the GOG thread. u snooze u lose!
