I have been wanting to add Steam to my pad, but the bloatware called Windows is a big drawback for me. The Steam-box is what I am waiting for, because you can just use SteamOS directly and it will natively work with the new Steam controller. My PS3/PS4 backlog is big, so I can wait till the launch coming late this year.

I currently use a MacBook Pro Retina from 2012, dual-boot with both OSX 10 (Yosemite) and Windows 7. It overheats horribly whenever I game on it, which isn't often as a result of that (plus I prefer a controller). At the time, I realized I prefer OSX over Windows, and haven't heard anything positive from any Windows 8 users. My former love for everything Apple has rapidly decreased since Steve Jobs sadly passed, and Apple has simply lost their touch IMO. In fact, I intend to be replacing my iPhone with an Android soon. I personally would only consider purchasing a new PC that either runs on a Steam OS, or once Google improves their OS to run as a proper PC OS. But that's me with a large backlog of PS3 and PS4 games, so I don't feel the pressure to buy a desktop/mini PC right now. I have the luxury of waiting around to see Steam boxes being released and decide then. If someone was buying a PC for gaming today, an Alienware with Steam intention could be the best option.

Make sure to grab the firmware that is designed for a new install. There is a link under the original link for the smaller firmware. Have a thumb drive formatted for fat32. You need to create a folder ps4/update I think. It tells you on the webpage.

Cool. So in regard to my resells I'm fine leaving them active as they are tied to the console rather than the HDD?

I have no phantoms...........

 
I just recreated the accounts just like I did when I bought them. Worked fine. Just make sure the thumb drive fits on the ps4. I had a weird shaped one that didn't fit.
 
Hey guys, sorry for being off-topic but i need help w/ something

On December 2014 i bought from user Jdub_ smooth, a resell slot containing all dlc for Skyrim. I never activated the account at my PS3 but checking at Sony site i realized that both slots were activated so someone else is using my share. When i bought from Jdub everything was ok.

If u have access to the acct and u are the correct owner. Why not phantom the acct to get rid of the activated accts.

Cool that makes sense. I actually find both OS (OSX and Windows) usable. Windows 8 is actually much better than windows 7 and I'm not sure why it has so much hate. People mention the metro (tiles) user face being a problem but that is easily disabled and for the past 5 months I haven't even seen it. Windows 8 like windows 7 except smoother and better. I hope Windows 10 will continue in that direction.

I'll see myself out now, seeing that this is off topic.

I haven't been buying shares here because of the whole phantom fiasco and the fact that I found it easier to share an account with a friend in real life.

If there ever is a game we disagree on getting, I'll probably try one of these loan sharks :whistle2: Qdizzle that seems popular these days.

 
Test phantom has been locked. This rules out several conspiracy theories.

- Sony is not banning individual consoles, or doing a ban wave, period. My console was already hit with the locks, and a manual ban/ban wave would not target the same console multiple times as that would be hugely redundant. Instead they'd put a permanent lock/ban on it.

- My test phantom did NOT have the resell slot active on another account. So as has been stated before, this has nothing to do with resell logging into the account.

- The first time my phantoms locked, I was using rest mode. This time I was shutting down completely. Same result, which shows that the power save option you're using does NOT matter.

- It's all pointing to the obvious...there was a new checking option/protocol activated with the 2.50 update. There's nothing you can do to avoid having your phantoms lock, other than being completely offline. I highly doubt this is something that Sony is going to fix, because why would they?

Sorry guys, I think we can rule PS4 phantoms as officially dead.

Only hope is timeshares or locked spots, either way gamesharing is pretty much dead. Time to go back to gamefly.

Did you happen to use the demo at all? Or did you just wait and see what happens?

The reason I ask this is when I hady phantoms, I started them up at least twice. Once when I got up and another later on the day. When they locked, I had not done that at all. I was concerned about upgrading my hdd that day. I tried backing up my hdd then cancelled out and they locked.

I have two theories. One is that by starting the phantom daily alleviates the check and two, there is someone on these sites who works for Sony and is doing this. Most of us have our psn ids on here. Everyone who has talked about their phantoms lost them. Myself included.

Or I'm just paranoid lol.

It's built into the system, passed through off-shore security firms (thus the various call centers + engineers).

They had been planning it for years, only now are they going through with it.

If you updated to Yakimura, which triggered the silent alarm,

and the Fox Die/TWD mutagen in your PS4, then you're screwed.

End of story, checkmate.

And obviously yes, just like eBay and every other publicly traded corporation has "spies",

so does Sony. Many lurk this thread, coming from all corners of the internet. Not that difficult to believe.

Hope that everyone can move along and just accept how things are now.

And like I had hinted in the past, check for these "stability updates" down the road,

it'll only get more accurate and worse.

The writing was on the wall.

Now to find alternatives in how to deal with it (which some of us already have).

Digital used game marketplace :D . Better than not being able to get some $$ back from digital purchases you have completed / are done with.

I know people would just say go disc and trade it in, But digital is way more convenient for me at least. Then there is always timeshares, rentals, gameshare group buys etc.
