Haven't read up on it lately but I think the coil whine were only in the first version but I could be wrong. Also look up reviews on other manfacturers 970s if you are looking to overclock but EVGA has the best customer service out of all of them for video cards.

Pfft, most of the games I'm looking at are lesser known titles or old, so more like 50-66% off thank you very much.

TBH only reason interested in Steam Summer Sale is to use up card money, use up Amazon GC, and for hopefully good sales from other platforms when they all run their summer sale at the same time. Though probably still end up spending $20-40 on Steam anyways ><.
 
@YBX - nope, i5-3570k.

@headpiece - I'll look around a bit this afternoon.  I tend to like EVGA the best for some reason.. I've had a gigabyte and a MSI crap out on me in the past.

Yeah I usually go with EVGA but when I was buying my 970s they were having that coil whine problem and something else I can't remember right now so I went with ASUS and like them except it seems every other card overclocks better.

if you overclock your gpu, get gigabyte g1gaming , or msi gaming 4g edition. if not stick with asus or evga

There really isn't a huge price difference between them all, so you might want to go for the FTW due to the backplate, but otherwise they all use the same cooling setup, just have different factory clocks. Do some research before you order, EVGA went through a few generations of their 970s since launch. Most models have a couple variants (2975/3975 for the SSCs, 2978/3978 for the FTWs, ignore the numbering if you're getting it from Best Buy because they have vendor specific cards) and their clock speeds and cooling have minor improvements with the newer releases.

Wanted to go EVGA for my upgrade a couple months ago, but after being thoroughly confused by all the different iterations, I just ended up getting the Gigabyte G1. 60fps in GTAV on ultra @ 1080p. Witcher 3 has occasional dips to 45 if i'm running Hairworks (which I am for the luxurious flowing asshair). Won't try overclocking until summer is over.

Didn't want to spend more than $200 on a video card, because cheapass etc etc. Glad I did. Haven't had a single problem with the 50ish games I have tested it on.

Right. Because no game in the history of Steam has ever allowed users to download it prior to the official release date. And it's also totally not possible to give a direct download link to download a non-Steam version of the game until the Steam release.

Any word yet on the newer 4 GB VRAM 960's (128-bit) vs. 3.5 GB 970's (256-bit)?

I'd still guess it's probably worth the extra $50-100 for the 970.

It makes, Valve limits amount of "ReleaseStateOverride" (= access before it's out on steam) keys you can get and disallows selling those.

They've done other changes too, to prevent other sites having advantages over steam purchases.

 
So The Detail episode 2 is out today, at a (shitty) 25% off so $4.49. Supposedly today only, but also supposedly was only for people owning the 1st and I could see it still while logged out sooooo yeah =p. 

Half tempted to blow my Steam savings on it, even though planning to keep those for the Summer Sale (and it isn't on Amazon, otherwise be an easy buy, getting $5 Amazon GC is easy). 

By the way, speaking of Steam sale, if you want a quick way to get some free(ish) money to use for it: 

  • Get a cheap android phone/use an old one you don't care about. As long as it can run off the charger and connect to wifi, you're good
  • Sign up for Swagbucks (Swagbucks.com) if you haven't yet. If you look the site up, you can usually find some blog that has a swagcode that'll get you some freebie swagbucks when you sign up.

  • Profit. 10 days of that should get you enough to snag a $10 visa card, which should be able to use on Steam afaik. If you do some extra work you can probably get enough to get the $25 in paypal cash, but the apps are pretty passive while most everything else is a slog.

Anyone who's traded games on steam probably knows how easy it is to fake "+rep" comments on your profile page, but in case that wasn't easy enough, there's a steam group dedicated to that shady practice.

If all else failed they could have done non Steam direct downloads early.

So basically Hatred is a game about what most people do in Grand Theft Auto when you get bored playing missions and has a top down view as in GTAII.

See, the hatred for this game is ridiculous. GTA has you run around and kill people. Call of Duty has you killing people. Assassin's Creed has you killing people. There's basically no difference between this game and State of Decay or any other zombie game. Parents would buy this for their eight-year-olds if the people were zombies or mutants or aliens.

It actually looks like a good game. It's self-aware in that it knows how stupid and hypocritical most people are. I'd fakeybro it.

Oh whatever. Nobody would even give a shit about that two bit pissant game if it wasn't for all the drama. People only even want it because they were told for 5 minutes they couldn't have it until Gabe got all embarrassed by the press and let a murder simulator in even though he still won't let titties in.

I think the only difference is that you are literally just a psychopath. In GTA - your character is just a criminal, what you choose to do is on your own (although Trevor...). In CoD you're a soldier. State of Decay you are killing zombies, not people. I think that is the big difference, especially the crazy shit the Hatred character says.

That being said, I'm sure the developers knew exactly the response it would get. It would draw criticism, which would lead to page hits, which would lead to sales. The whole thing just seems like a gimmick to me, who knows how much time and effort they put into making the game good when they know they're getting sales based on the controversy alone. I'm passing.

True. I'm against censorship and all of that stuff but Hatred has gotta be worse than some stupid sex game. It's hilarious how companies choose between censoring sex and mindless psychopath murdering and thinks that sex is...worse?!?
