They just started (this month) a 401K plan here at work. Before that we had a profit-sharing plan, but the investment aspect of it was VERY conservative. That being said, they did dump a good chunk of change into it during the 11+ years I've been working here. All that is getting rolled over into our 401K accounts. The company is matching up to 4%, and after crunching the numbers I decided to start my contribution at 9% in an effort to do some catching up. I've also got a Roth IRA I've been putting money into since I started this job.
As far as when I would retire, right now I would say I have no idea. The way things are looking now, I could be running this place in another 10-15 years; the VP has insinuated as such on several occasions to let me know I have a long future here if I want it. The company President and VP are both right at 60, my boss is 74, and the plant manager is in his early 60s. Between them and myself, there isn't a whole lot with the knowledge to run the business. It's a family owned business, President and VP are family members, but the next generation of the family is 10-15 years younger then me, and only two of those work here or have expressed interest in working here. Plus, I really enjoy what I do.
