Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)

Finally got around to finish reading the Secret Wars Infinity Gauntlet comics. That one scene reminded me of my childhood morning watching Power Rangers and I thought it was pretty epic and totally unexpected. I liked the last issue it was fun and felt like a satisfying closure.
I read those comics and was wondering is there just the one Thanos (aside from time travelling hijinks). Was that Thanos who escaped the mainstream Marvel destruction? or a Thanos from Secret Wars Battleworld location pieced together by Dr. Doom?

Read Dark Knight 3: Master Race. So far seems entertaining enough. I loved Dark Knight Returns and reread it every once in a while. DK Strikes Again should never be read by anyone.

I know Miller gets alot of hate on the internet, so I hope this is a nice positive swan song for him to have in his later years.

The biggest bonus is that Frank isn't doing the art. I never understood how his art (which was always a little rough) has gotten worse and worse over the years.

Age, arthritis, hand tremors? Who knows.

Will I be alright reading that issue without ever having read the first 2 stories?
I think you should at least read or watch The Dark Knight Returns. The DC animated version is pretty well done. I haven't read the second story yet but I am sensing that might be a good thing after all based on people comments.

Frank Miller is only in his 50s, and he looks worse than Dick Van Dyke. My friend says the only thing keeping him going is pure hatred.

There have been so many cool things since Daredevil and DKR, and yet the DC media machine is still influenced by his works. That is a bummer. Look at Image, it's not about edgy and gritty anymore.

Got most of the remainder of last week's books that I posted a list for. Still waiting on Uncanny Avengers Annual #1, Bizarro #6, and Secret Wars Too #1. Here's the pic of the rest for posterity's sake.

Anyone doing any Black Friday comic book sales? My comic shop is doing a 75% off select trades and hardcovers and hold slot members get first dibs so along with weekly stuff I got abunch of X-Factor, Ultimate Spider-man, Daredevil and Invincible vol. 3 Library Edition, which might've been a bad idea because it is fucking gorgeous and makes me want to collect them all now.

My store already has low prices, so the discount isn't very high, which is okay. I don't really know what comics to buy considering most of the things I read come from the library.

Doesn't go quite as far back as I am wanting. Mile High seems to have them in stock but I am just not sure about the price and what grade I want. The ocd in me wants the highest grade possible. The realistic part of me says it will never be stored in the best of conditions anyway.

I Got to say, I REALLY hate Marvel's inserts in their comics for comics from them that are out now or coming soon. Especially when it's in the middle of a goddamn two page spread. It's the most obnoxious thing ever.

My haul for the week!

Not in the mood to list everything this week. Hehe! The only comic i read so far is Robin War#1. Felt like a let down! There wasnt much action panels. And i hate that it will cross other comics i dont have in my pull like grayson. Why cant they just keep it in the same series? Tsk!

The other comic im looking forward to read is daredevil#1 and papergirls#3

Zero Gravity usually throws in free trinkets when available; stuff like magazine-pullout-type posters of covers and full page glossy promotional prints.

I've only read the 3 books I got off backorder. Gonna try to make time to read Batman & Robin Eternal, Paper Girls, and hopefully a couple others today.

I Don't think that's ever happened to me, but then again after opening two or three inserts, you know what to expect in terms of what to or not to pick up.

And goddammit, I gotta say the problem with Archie is that it's so fucking good that it makes not knowing when the next issue coming out all the more aggravating.

Oh and me and my friend have come to an agreement, it maybe three issues in and it maybe a prequel, but I'll be damned if Vader Down isn't one of the best recent crossovers. The last issue was just tremendous and eases the badassness of Vader killing all the rebel's with the original trilogy group meeting Vader's group.

I missed out on getting the 1st issue of archie when it 1st came out. Ended up buying a variant just to get me started. Ive been hunting ebay for a deal on the 1st issue and finally won an auction recently.

Im really liking it so far. I also have jughead in my pull and that is just good read!

I've heard good things about that. Traditional Archie never appealed to me whatsoever, though I did like Archie vs. Sharknado and Archie vs. Predator a lot. My primary reason for not trying the new version was pretty much, "My pull list is enormous already, so I probably shouldn't."

I Justify Archie by saying Mark Waid writing it and Fiona Staples draw

Try Afterlife With Archie, Archie vs. Predator and Sabrina. The thing I love about the Archie comics now is it's fully in on how people see Archie comics and embraces it, while also moves it forward. While Sabrina is a nice EC horror comics throwback in all the right ways.

Mark Waid writing and Fiona Staples drawing the first few issues. What more do you need?! And everyone's pull list is huge, but you know what? It'll keep growing regardless (except mine, Secret Wars reboot made me drop abunch of titles).

My local comic shop didn't received their new comics this week yet. They didn't look really happy at all considering that they were suppose to get it yesterday and was told that they would get them this morning, but they got nothing at all. UPS really screwed them over.

Yeah all 8 issues are going to have hardcover version after a couple weeks later from the comic release date and yes they are totally milking it. I wasn't  planning to pick the hardcovers up but I just couldn't resisted that Jim Lee cover. I do hope all 8 of those hardcovers are Jim Lee.

Its a nice read man! The cover art translates to the actual art in the book. So if you dig the main cover art then youll enjoy the book. It also felt like the book was made during the original tv series since the actions and dialogues of the turtles were spot on. Hehe! Batman is batman here aswell. Wished #1 had more pages to get a better feel of why theres a crossover. After reading the last couple of panels... Im already looking forward to #2!

My local store ordered heavy on this book and they already sold as of today out so thats also a nice indication.

Since jim lee's art was used for the slipcase. And issue#1 hc featured jim lee's 1:500 variant, i would bet that the remaining 7 HC will also feature jim lee tobe consistent.

Heres the pic of issue #2 cover.

It does look nice, but all want or temptation of me getting it disappear when I just think of DKR2. If somehow the whole DKIII turns out good, I'll just buy the hardcover collection.
I haven't read New 52/DCYOU Batman at all yet. Been meaning to catch up via TPB.
I actually started reading new 52 this year through TPB. I was only interested in vol 1 from the start but by the end of vol1, i was already trying to find the best deals to get vol2-6! I decided to buy the singles starting from #41. Hehe!

Somebody is really screwing up with this month's Harley themed polybagged variants. First, I had to wait 2 weeks for the variant of Harley's Little Black Book #1, which finally came in today. Now I was told that for today's Harley Quinn #23, even though I ordered the variant, there was supposedly never any listing in their system to order it and there still is not. So I can't get that. Then the variant of Justice League #46 won't be in til next week. Argh.

I specifically chose those variants 2 months ago on my order form, so it's annoying.
