Comic Book Discussion Thread (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Top Cow, IDW, Indy, etc)

Definitely a flaw in their system since I saw it on the shelf today.  The fact that you even preordered it and they don't have it is unacceptable.

Yeah, I don't understand it either. Then, as I also stated previously, the Justice League variant won't arrive til next week. These books were selected on the very same form as the other 17 of today's releases that I ordered.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but has anyone ever heard of a distributor choosing not to release certain titles to a specific store? I was told that was the case today with Astonishing Ant-Man #3 and Star-Lord #2 at my usual place. It just seems strange to me. I did a few Google searches for answers on the subject but found nothing.

I'm almost certain those books weren't released today, to anyone.  Give me a day and I'll see if I can get a more definitive answer.

If it wasn't a matter of a Diamond shortage then the only option I could guess at it would be a penalty from Diamond for breaking a street date but, like I said, that's just a guess.

I've been rereading Preacher again after a long while since it finished and the book holds up ridiculously well. It's also a nice reminder that the show will NEVER approach anything close to the book. If they can achieve half the violence of the Saint of Killers when he lays waste to the police (because we all know the sex and language won't make the cut), I'll be surprised.

Ah well. Maybe they'll be in next week. I still got 14 of the 16 I ordered from this week.

Does anybody know of any sites that have holiday sales going on right now for TPBs and hardcover collections? In Stock Trades is my usual choice for such things, but I figured maybe some other place might have good deals on some of the many books I want.

i talked to my local comic book shop about releases... he said the best reference to see whether a comic book is going to be released the coming week is going to Previewsworld. PW is a diamond comic distributors' affiliate company. I used to look at midtown comic's website since they seem to have the most comprehensive pull listing. but there are instances that some comics specially independents are incorrectly listed as being released that week but is not on previews world.

EDIT: so i looked at midtowns and they did list antman today. but in previews world, its not listed. so its not released this week for sure.

Both have release dates of 12/23. Ant-Man is available to purchase online via various sites, while Atomic Empire seems to be the only search result that has a listing for Star-Lord.

http://marvel.com/comics/issue/55333/the_astonishing_ant-man_2015_3

http://marvel.com/comics/issue/56181/star-lord_2015_2

So I don't know what's up.
antman#3 was not released today. but starlord #2 did. i saw some in my local shop earlier. never did picked up #1 but i did see #2 being sold.

midtown comics is having their annual year end blowout. just ordered 10 skottie young variant comics for less than $20. hehe! i think they have 40% off on select TPBs too.

I use Comic List, but I checked many different sources including Marvel themselves, all of whom listed Ant-Man for 12/23.

However, while Comic List had the book (plus 2-3 variant covers) listed for yesterday and still do, they now list the issue for 12/30 as well (regular cover only; no variants). So disorganized.

Literally every time I order a variant cover, I either don't get it on time or I just don't get it ever. This month alone:

• Harley's Little Black Book #1 (waited 3 weeks)
• Harley Quinn #23 (never)
• Back to the Future #3 (never)

Now I have been told that my variant of Justice League #47 is not there today. I chose all those variants on the order forms. What the fuck?

One thing I'm not liking about the new Marvel is the 8 month gap where all these things happen that we don't get to know about. Like apparently Four Horsemen Angel is back even though we saw him die about 5 years ago.

Does that mean the new "Heavenly" Angel who could see people's true selves is gone? is it somesort of amalgamation of the multi-verse? or pretty much just the it's a Marvel (or DC) comic and they just do whatever they want when they want - retconning and changing it as they see fit. Kind of how like Cyclops finally had a good ending before Secret Wars. Now we get back post Secret Wars and he actually went full crazy and made everything worse than ever.

I'm sure they will reveal what happened to have this Angel back later someway or another.

I won't be getting my books til tomorrow night, but I assume you're referring to Archangel being on the Uncanny X-Men squad. Meanwhile, young Angel still rolls with the new X-Men... and somehow, simultaneously, with Wolverine.

Nice to see some activity in this thread, though. I didn't bother catching up and sharing my last 3 weeks of purchases since no one else was posting. But I am picking up 30 (yes, THIRTY) new comics this week. Well, one is a back issue, but 29 doesn't sound as impressive/pathetic.

To keep this thread going.

I picked up Ninjak and Bloodshort Reborn recently and both were really good. I saw some positive posts about them then whle in Dubai, I was wondering around a book store and saw a big Ninjak hardcover which reminded me about the good stuff I've heard about Valiant comics.

I only remembered Valiant from when I was really young. I use to sometimes buy bagged bundles of like 4 or 5 random comics for a few bucks. They had them at Blockbuster or some other video store. I only grabbed them because they usually had guns, pouches, and swords and on the cover and most importantly they were cheap for 8 year old me. I have no idea what comics I got because I think they were always just randomly thrown together.

Back to Marvel - I wonder how long they will keep good Sabretooth around. He seems to be the only think that has mattered/stayed around since the Onslaught story. Weird how that was a big crossover event and had absolutely no repercussions except Sabretooth being good. Everything was either undone or just undone/ignored a few months after the event.

Now that there is Old Man Logan, you don't really need Sabretooth. Sabretooth felt like a throw back to when Wolverine was just starting to deal with his tragic past, bloodshed, etc. Wolverine then became balanced (or as balanced as Wolverine can be). Now you have Old Man Logan who has the sad past turned up to ten - killing all his best friends by mistake and then trying laying his head down on the train tacks. Will they just revert Sabretooth back or keep him like this for the foreseeable future.

I think it is also time to break out the Heaven teleporter that Nightcrawler came back through. They should beam up there and get Xaiver, Mar Vell, and a few others. What happens if a dead person from Heaven sees their grave or corpse? I think that would be a good storyline. How does Nightcrawler react to his own grave and corpse (not to mention how is he a physical being since they went to Heaven and brought him back)?

To lazy to list down what i got this week from my pull. Picked up around 15 comics this week. This came in the mail today though! Im finally using my gamestop points to good use... Redeeming variant comic covers! Hehe

When you read your comics, do you do it all in one sitting? Or do you break it up into chunks throughout the week? How long does it usually take you?

i ask because in weeks where I've purchased a large number of books I usually end up with a backlog/falling behind.

I need to read some of these newer Archie comics. I hear good things about them. They look like a lot of fun.
My only complaint for the last run of new Archie titles is I don't care for the Jughead artist who is the same artist for Squirrel Girl, otherwise every title they've released has all been fantastic.

And Civil War II announced with Bendis writing and it's being hyped by saying a big name superhero will die. Selling a crossover centered on a big reveal of a superhero who will die? That's sure to boost confidence that this will be a fantastic story! Also is Black Goliath alive in this universe? If so...I think we figured it out.

I got a couple issues of the Squirrel Girl comic. I agree, didn't care for the art.

After you read the main Archie title and see how each of the three different artist draw Betty and look at how she's drawn in Jughead you'll be confused and maybe even outraged.

I like the art style in Squirrel Girl. But even if you don't, I believe that book contains some of the most entertaining writing you can find in the current crop of Marvel Comics. And she's having a crossover with Howard the Duck!

I'm disappointed that Batman and Superman are going back to status quo.  You knew it would happen eventually, but I thought it would take longer. Will they keep Gordon as a back up (Batman, Inc.?) or is just back to the trench coat.

Squirrel Girl and Howard the Duck are my favorite "slice of life" type comics. They generally may not have the most serious storylines (though Howard is getting slightly more serious after the relaunch), but are fun to read and have lovable main characters.

I'm kind of glad Batman and Superman are going back to status quo. I recently dropped Action Comics just cause I wasn't really enjoying the light IMHO reading stories. It seemed very fillerish and was boring. I'm really enjoying Superman Lois & Clark and while it looks like that one is going up to issue 8, that Superman will likely be in the man Superman book at least. I'm not very fond of Gordon Batman though I only started reading it again.

Also is it just me or does Dark Knight 3: The Master Race just kind of sucks? I may be missing something as I only read Dark Knight Returns and not the Batman & Robin All Stars or whatever it was called (though I've heard mixed opinion on it). I was excited for DK3 but it just bores me and seems like a lot of nonsense storytelling. I'm dropping it so far and am disappointed I still have issue #3 on pre-order. I do the orders in advanced for the savings, but it causes me to sometimes get books for 1 or 2 more issues after wanting to drop them.

I'm still very unsure of the Mighty Thor as well. It kind of bores me, but I don't think the story is all that bad there. Just trying to figure out my pull list to stay around $115-$120 a month at most.

Lois and Clark is pretty good, but Action Comics was only good when Grant was writing it.

Seeing some of your weekly pick-ups is amazing to me because you guys spend so much on comics, but then again, I spend more on food and is shows LOLZ

Unless something changed, Lois & Clark is supposed to run for 12 issues. Same goes for the other Convergence spinoffs- Telos and Titans Hunt. I've really been enjoying Lois & Clark and Titans Hunt. Telos has been incosistent in terms of quality over 4 issues. But I invested a lot into Convergence and I'm gonna see this through.

I try to limit mine to 20 per week maximum, but sometimes, shit like last week happens. Marvel's Secret Wars delays and ANAD relaunches have made for a loaded pull list on their own. Add in a handful of titles from DC, Image, and IDW... you get the picture, literally and figuratively.

DKR2 was awful and All Star Batman & Robin was like a parody of what people come to expect from Batman (Batman is a TOTAL asshole to everyone and kills cops) and it never even finished! Don't ever let anyone tell you they were good or okay, because they were far from it.

Damn 20 is still a lot, I wish I can afford to do that weekly. I have been cutting down on my comics and been waiting for TPB because of the money and mostly because I can't keep up with the story line or characters with single issues. I keep forgetting what is happening with monthly comics and would have to go back and read a couple of back issues to remember what's going on, so I figure I would just wait for the TPB if it isn't Batman or already on my pull list.

I Think I get around 5-10 comics a week average. Being able to get hardcovers and trades for about half off or less is a god send. Plus they look alot more nifty on my bookshelf.

So a new Civil War event and bringing back a dead character. I'm feeling event fatigue over at Marvel. It feels like it has just been event after event for a while now.

Schism - Xmen vs Avengers - Apocalypse Twins - Red Skull Onslaught - Inversions - Secret Wars

There are so many big events that it feels like half of them don't really matter. Apocalypse Twins and Red Skull Onslaught had absolutely no lasting effects except Daken is suddenly alive (and now suddenly he is no longer a Horsemen) and Sabretooth is good.

Who will be resurrected? I think Wolverine will stay dead since we have Old Man Logan and Sabretooth now who both fill the Wolverine role. We already have a Jean Grey who is now supposedly more powerful than the old one.

Maybe Xaiver. They can get the Heaven transporter out again and go there and get ol Chuck back in his angel pajamas. Or maybe Mar-Vell. I can't think of anyone else important who has been dead.

I picked up Death Vigil and thought it was really good. I went poking around to see if there is a going to be a volume 2 but it looks like it didn't sell well. I don't understand why it wasn't promoted more (unless I missed). I never heard or saw anything about it in any comics or at NYCC/SDCC. I love Sejic's art (especially his Red Sonja and He-Man stuff). I may need to grab a commission or original artwork if I ever happen to see it.

Speaking of that - does anyone else here collect any original art or commissions? I have a few that I think are pretty awesome. Would people be interested in seeing pictures? I'm going to start framing and hanging them up soon in the housel

We know Civil War II supposedly contains at least 1 major character death and the storyline includes the concept of predicting crimes and stopping criminals before they commit those crimes.

I'm probably way off, but All-New Hawkeye is partially set in a time period 30 years from now and the world is very different. What if Clint Barton did something in that future and his current self was preemptively executed as a result?

My pickup:

Dark Knight III: The Master Race #2

Descender #9

Secret Wars #9

Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1

Invincible Iron Man #5

Where did you pick up Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #0 from? Is that the one with the Green Ranger on the cover? I tried to find a website online to order it from because I'm not sure if there are any local comic book shops in my area.

Also, do you know more about the series going forward? Like will they have other editions that feature the other Rangers on the covers?

Thanks for any info you have because I am REALLY interested in buying any and all Power Ranger comics!

This issue has 8 different covers. Green, White, and Shielded Red Ranger covers are rare and pricey. My local shop was charging $70 for Green, for example. But Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, and Pink should all cost the standard $3.99.

The book is an ongoing series. The next issue (#1, since this was #0) will be available in March at comic shops everywhere.

Thanks for the info! I looked up my city shops to see if there were any comic shops here, and it seems like we have a few... hopefully they have those comics

No problem. I've never ordered single issues online, but I'm sure someone here can help with that if you don't find what you're looking for locally. Good luck!

I Thought Red Ranger in Dragon Armor was going to be a variant next week or next month or whatever. Eitherway I don't think it's part of the first run.

Going to wait for the first volume seeing as how I won't get the cover variant I want for issue #0. Going to be a long wait for that first volume.

I can't believe the abc special about Captain America spoiled the ending to Civil War to the audience, unless the Civil War movie is going to have a different ending.
