Well, its not just me. I have a 12 year old son and we have an agreement, as long as he gets straight B's or better and does his chores, I allow him free reign to buy what he wants on the XBox store. And I buy a lot of stuff for myself as well so between the 2 of us....well, yeah we definitely spend some coin on Xbox content. Even my wife is a pretty big gamer, although she doesn't buy anywhere near the content that my son and I buy.

Nope, no cryptokeys. The only restrictions I have in regards to the content I allow my son to buy is in game currency and outfits for Dead or Alive.

I'm sorry I guess. Just wanted to play the beta because someone in the drop thread put a ton but they got lurked real quick. I wanted to know if the game is any good before I spend 65 dollars on it
 
I wrote up some long form thoughts on Mirror's Edge so far, had some friends on Facebook curious. Crossposting

Alright, I've played about an hour and a half of the Mirror's Edge beta so far. I'm liking it, barring a couple issues. I don't know if this is going to have an open beta or not, there does seem to be a pretty large chunk of game available. I'm going to keep messing with it while it's up the next few days, so far I'm leaning towards picking up the full game. EA must be in their less evil phase again to let decent games exist under their leadership again.
 

The good:

-Combat feels a lot more fleshed out. I don't think you can pick up guns anymore, not that you really were supposed to in the first game. Now you have both light and heavy attacks, and can influence the direction enemies stumble in to direct the flow of combat. There is also a dodge, it seems overpowered to me. You can strafe behind enemies really easy and even spam it when a lot of things are attacking you. You can now do light attacks while flooring and not lose momentum.

-The open world was a great decision as it feels well implemented as far as I've played. One of the weakest aspects of ME1 was how linear it was. Now you can traverse all around however you want, with side missions, challenges, and collectibles to give you reasons to do so. The world itself feels more alive since there are a decent amount of NPCs scattered about too.

-Actual cutscenes are a huge improvement. I think the wonky flash animations in the original were my least favorite part.

-The music is still great, really fits the atmosphere and aesthetic. I'm not sure how to describe it, but the first game's music just fit so well, and it seems the composer did it again here.

The bad:

-Handholding runner vision is the default. I HIGHLY recommend anyone that plays the game go into game options and change it from "Full" to "Classic". The new default gives you a really obnoxious trail to follow, like the Fable quest glow. The original way of following red objects is a lot less insulting. I'd only turn that Full setting on if you're really struggling.

-XP nonsense to unlock abilities, many of which are movement related things that you could always do in the first game, like quick turn or rolling. Half of the abilities are unlocked already in the beta, hopefully this is the case in the full game, and they're just there to give you details on everything you can do. The RPG style progression being in everything has been old for a couple years now, and it really sticks out here, for me at least. Maybe if it would have been combat or gadget only I'd be OK with it, restricting movement just seems like dumb idea.

-The tutorial gave me a terrible first impression.

-Performance is kind of jittery, like framerate issues on models in cutscenes occasionally. Hopefully this is fixed by launch, it was just delayed two weeks so maybe that's part of it. (Playing on Xbone)

Undecided:

-The control changes. So far movement does flow a lot easier, it seems like some of the more complicated stuff might come close to the complexity of the original, but I can't really say at this point. I want to say it's dumbed down, but I think streamlined is more fair.

-It's a full blown reboot. It seems the only returning character is Faith (and her sister in flashbacks), and even she has a different voice actor, along with a different personality in my opinion. All the supporting people and villians are different. I get that they probably didn't want to retread the original story, but having a few nods to the old game would be nice. Maybe this happens eventually.

Other:

-I haven't tried multiplayer yet, I don't even know what it is. I see time trial leaderboards and I could see one friend on my map that was also playing, but couldn't actually see him once I went to him.

-No way to turn off subtitles. Has to be a beta thing.

Yep, begging for codes constantly isn't cool at all and if you're paying $65 for a new release I think you might be on the wrong message boards.

 
My biggest concern with ME2 is how dumb downed the actual platforming will be. The first game was linear, yes, but because of that the platforming was designed to be as visually pleasing and satisfying as possible. Now that it's open world they'll probably opt for the quantity over quality way of thinking that plagues the genre.

Another thing I'm worried about is the fact that you have to unlock movement abilities. That means the open world is designed around the starting abilities (which makes the unlocked abilities superfluous) or parts of the city will be awkwardly restricted (in which case why even do skill trees?)

Poor (re)naming structure? Like maybe initial compatibility is actually on-disc bbut MS think listing next compatility update in Xbox store as "Pack 2" might cause confusion. Don't know...just guessing.

Pack VI & Reverse Cosplay are from same content update. Same file, different unlocks.

Voyeur Pack IV includes the complimentary content found in the Thank You Pack that was released on PS3 & Steam. And, IIRC, Voyeur Pack VI includes the winning entries from their Reverse Cosplay design contest, but that seems pointless since the free Reverse Cosplay Pack contains the same two costumes.

I'm wondering if it also includes the value of digital keys/games redeemed on Xbox that may have been bought from outside sources, or if it's only stuff bought directly through the marketplace.

Looking at the sale this week I am debating which Destiny Taken package to get. I don't own the base Destiny game so I either get the legendary or Digital collectors edition. The difference in price is $4.  Are the extras you get with the digital collectors addition worth $4?

 
I say dont bother. I did research on the same issue and the consensus is that the few things you get are either useless or outlive their usefulness not long after you've started playing.
