Dead?
#Dicksout?

The only solace I get out of this is that all those humble bundle monthly ARK ragers will be enraged even more when they learn soon their reviews will count for nothing.  NOTHING!

I think all ratings still count towards the general Positive, Mixed, Negative, etc.  But you won't see the written reviews from 3rd party buyers unless you have it set to do so.

So you can rest assured, knowing that the guy who wrote "Started game, was raped by a giraffe 11/10 would be sodomized by native African wildlife again" was a real Steam customer and not some fraudulent review by a company shill who was never actually raped by a giraffe.

Just a heads up for anyone interested, but Dead Rising unlocked early on Steam.

Played around for an hour and it seems to be running fine for me.  Good port as far as I can tell at the moment.

I think it does affect the overall rating. There is one game I know specifically that handed out keys and was never really called out on it. Using the wayback machine to go to early august its only had 7 new reviews since then and was previously mixed. Now its mostly negative. If you look at the breakout steam-only purchases weight towards mostly negative (40/52 negative), and cdkey handouts are all very positive(61/75 positive).

If you go to the reviews and sort, when you hit 'all' reviews it changes to 'mixed', steam-only mostly negative, cdkey very positive. Pretty sure that last part points to steam showing steam-only ratings as the overall rating

good lord how could that ever be worth it, you would still have to go at least once a week to olive garden for 7 weeks straight. If you like pasta that much then just make it at home for 1/4 the price and 1/10 the salt

Which game? I'm not doubting you but I'd like to see one where it flips the results like that.

21,000 passes for $100 a pop is $2.1 million in a couple seconds time. Not a terrible plan considering that most people won't get $100 worth of visits in (and even if they do, pasta is cheap so you'd need to eat a lot before you actually got $100 worth).

Actually, it looks as though Steam ONLY uses Steam-purchased reviews for its "Positive/Mixed/Negative" ratings.  If you look at Ark, it says "Overall: Mixed (94,805 reviews)".  If you look down in the written section, it says:

Purchase Type
All (96,307)
Steam Purchasers (94,805)
Key Activations (1,502)

No matter what you click for the radio buttons, it always bases the "Overall" off the the 94,805 reviews.  So you can read reviews from other buyers but they'll never count into the game's reviews.

Also, it looks like Fox is wrong about where all the Ark review bombs are coming from.

This would be worth it if I worked it my previous job- there was an Olive Garden right across the street.
$100 for 7 weeks worth of lunches would be just fine, though it'd probably ending up costing me another $60-70 in tips for the wait staff.

(Because damn it, that's a pretty thankless job and you get shit pay).

I read an article on this today, what can I say it was a slow news day, and the average buyer used the card 28 tines in a 7 week span...

I cannot fathom that...

lol the new review system is going to piss off developers/publishers using the review system legitimately too, not just customers. Review scores help sales, and you need every bit of help to sell your game at launch. I imagine a lot of publishers will stop handing out press copies so freely after this, as I know many people read the review scores and not the reviews themselves. To me, this is more hilarious than annoying, I can't wait to see the shitstorm that's a result of this.

On the other hand, I like being able to see which publishers hand out press copies and which don't, you can semi-check this by using the new filter system (if the game has no steam key activation reviews) which is kind of cool.

Maybe worth it if the endless pasta extends to a guest/second person so you can take somebody out with you, but I doubt that's how it works. But yeah I have no desire to eat Olive Garden 15 times in less than 2 months to justify the purchase

I wonder how much this is about the recent "No Man's Sky" review fire-bombing (and possibly Ark review fire-bombing?) than it is about Derpigal Herpicide inflating their poopy game reviews scores ...

THANK GOD GABEN SAVED US FROM DIGITAL HOMICIDE GAMEZ! U DA MAN!
Um, I'm betting pretty much all of it. As has been stated earlier, the key activations no longer factor into score calculations, so all of the people complaining about Ark who got it from HB are wasting their collective metaphorical breaths. I'm not sure that this really does anything other than protect devs from this kind of reviewgasm. Certainly it does nothing to refine the review system, because I don't see an argument to be made that a third-party buyer's opinion is less relevant or helpful in some inherent way than a Steam purchaser's. As others pointed out previously, the idea that rampant review-buying is going on is roughly analogous to the idea that rampant voter fraud is taking place all over the country and the only way to stop it is to make it harder for people to vote.

I assume the pizza lovers in here will also be interested in this.

Yikes. I'm actually a big fan of Olive Garden, but my wife hates it, so guess how often I get to go? That being said, it does really seem like the parent company is super-desperate lately, running all of these weird "buy a meal and we'll give you another one to take home with you" deals and things like this. It makes me suspect the company is going down faster than a two-dollar whore. Also it makes me suspect that there's a really obvious reason that Americans tend to be getting more obese.

Interesting tweet.

Eh, does it actually make any kind of difference to us? I guess it's a great way to compartmentalize if Valve thinks that controllers and Steam machines and VR headsets are going to take off in the next few years, but I don't see some kind of split between the two giving us Half-Life 3 in 2017 or anything.

In the case of Ark, it won't even do that much since there's around a thousand "key" reviews and something like 94,000 "Steam" reviews. The Ark review bombing isn't coming from cranky Humble Monthly buyers.

Heh, boy those Steam machines really took off, didn't they? Even the controller is a niche product. I guess it's good that they're trying at least but Valve isn't exactly knocking it out of the park with hardware.

Lies, Lies, all Lies! Clearly Steam is in bed with Humble and including those in the Steam reviews. I wonder how many Hamble Piggies review the game versus how many actually buy the monthly. I always assumed a crapload of people bought the monthly, but maybe that is not the case.

Also, checked the Pasta Pass and now it is DINE IN ONLY! Definitely not worth it. I like to pig out at home, in front of my TV, like a normal person.

Show up with your tablet, make sure you get a seat by an outlet and settle in for ten hours of pasta and seasons of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix. But the real show will be watching your server's soul slowly die as they realize that you're never leaving your table and 15% of that refillable Coke is 45¢.

Promotion comes with the coke too!

I have no desire to eat Olive Garden 15 times in a lifetime.

Doesn't help that I hate alfredo sauce, which is like their biggest seller.

Edit: I'm also weird that I like pasta with just olive oil and salt.

Enjoying Pac-Man CE 2 so far. Support for DS4 and XB1 controllers seems to be  fuck ed at the moment, though. So make sure you disconnect them if you're having problems. Haven't tried 360 or Steam.

Oh, and I never quite figured out the gun system in Home front. I bought a whole bunch of attachments but could never figure out how to actually use any of them. Was trying to use them to make my battle rifle into a sniper, but maybe I needed to upgrade out first?
I had an "Oh, cool" moment last night when the lightbulb went off and I realized that mod kits are just attachments and so you can just switch kits in the field. I was annoyed that I'd be stuck with a pistol and an LMG when I needed to do distance shooting. Oh, wait, I can just mod my weapon back to an assault rifle with a 4x scope to take out the snipers, then switch it back into an LMG for the base assault.

It's actually sort of silly to watch, like you have a magic transformer gun but it is handy in practice. Also, it remembers the other attachment settings so each time you convert to assault rifle it has your 4x scope and switching it back to LMG has the holo scope ready to go.

Free hero when you log in to Heroes of the Storm. Chris Metzen also retired from Blizzard this week. I might take a break from WoW later to shitpost some MOBA "deals".
