Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Dead Rising 4 (aka GOTY 2016) will get a free 60-minute trial next week on 1/31. All modes will be available to play, plus you can earn achievements and if you decide to buy it after the trial ends, all your progress carries over.
Just to add to this the game is also adding 2 difficulty settings that have achievements. I know a big criticism of the game was that it seemed too easy so this is welcome.

I don't mind adding difficulty options for the sadists who love punishing themselves, but I do mind when they attach achievements to them. Makes me very angry.

The description didn't give me too much hope. Making enemies do more damage and healing items do less is a pretty lazy way to bump up difficulty.

Does anyone here pay tax when buying Xbox Live currency?

I bought some when Staples had a deal a month or so ago and didn't pay taxes.  Tried to buy some from Best Buy, and they're charging tax.  Just wondering if it's a temporary mistake on their part or if others have had to pay tax.

It probably depends on the state you're in, so someone messed up. Could be either though.

No tax on the cards in MA, but taxed when I purchase on the marketplace

Currency charges shouldn't incur taxes because since you pay taxes on what you buy with it that is charging tax twice. Although I don't think there is anything that can be done when a store is charging you tax. I would buy pre-orders for games at Walmart, which is essentially buying a $5 Walmart gift card, and sometimes I would be charged tax. It would vary by store and by game, and I couldn't come up with the right words to convince the stores to make them a non-tax purchase.

Thanks for the answers.  I just did some testing and it looks like only the $10 digital download currency at Best Buy is being charged tax.  The physical cards and anything >$10 is not being charged tax.  Seems like a problem on their side maybe.  Not sure why $10 should be taxed, but $15 is not.

I never minded difficulty level achievements. One thing that pisses me off though is when there's an achievement for easy, medium, and hard (or whatever) but the achievements don't stack requiring multiple playthroughs.

Fellow achievement whores, please welcome me to the 60K gamerscore after being on the Xbox for 9yrs.

Major props to those with 6 digit gamerscores, and for those with the high 6 digits...damn, go outside lol

Ahhh man, C&C 3: Tiberium Wars on 360, I also had it on PC lol, had that problem and if you finished a mission on Hard and got a Gold Medal, it'd overlap so you couldn't tell if you had the Bronze or Silver medals for getting Easy and Medium respectively. On a few missions I had Medium and then I couldn't see which ones I had gotten all the objectives completed under Easy. Super stupid design. For a bit I had to keep track on a sticky note but then other games came around and I said well f this. I might go back to that some time.

All campaign missions can separately be given a difficulty rating on the "theater" screen before they are started; the available difficulty settings range from "Easy" to "Normal" to "Hard".

This drives me insane. I really don't want to replay Shadows of the Damned on Easy after beating it on Normal. They should stack and there's no good reason for them not to.

Speaking of difficulty, I just finished MM9 (again) since it went BC and it's as good as I remember. Except - the achievements are the most insane, masochistic thing ever. Only 5 GS for beating the game, and the majority of them are things like "Beat the Game Without Dying," "Beat the Game Without Energy Tanks," and "Beat the Game 5 Times in One Day."

fuck you, Inafune.

Give me an example of one that doesnt stack, I've never experienced it yet

Lol this, Yeah i played hard then medium right after another and got burnt out and just quit going for the easy play through.Maybe since it BC now I'll try for it again.

I'm so deep into VR right now, fuck real life
Have you tried Driveclub VR? It is a great example of a "normal" game that is enhanced by VR. The ability to look into a corner as you would IRL makes a difference for me, feels natural. It looks a bit ass compared to the original (the demo looks even worse) but other wise performs as well and is pretty much the same game (tho not as many tracks/cars, no bonnet cam). I would recommend if you like simcade racers.

I have been thinking of starting a Final Fantasy 13-2 (I bought it during a sale) but have never played 13. How important is it to play 13 before starting this? I also have lightning returns, which I plan to play later.

I was actually playing it last night. I agree that it's very cool and immersive, even if the graphics take a hit. For VR I have Driveclub, Eve Valkyrie, Rigs, Battlezone, Robinson, Until Dawn, Pinball FX, Fruit Ninja VR, RE7, World's, Lethal, Holoball, Rollercoaster Dreams, Sports bar VR. VR definitely feels like the future, and I'm very interested to see what MS does with Scorpio in regards to VR and it will be interesting to see if they partner with VIVE, or Oculus or make their own headset like Sony did.

They're not as hard as they sound. I just got the achievements for beating the game without dying and speed run in one playthrough. The achievement that is the biggest bitch is the one where you can't use Energy Tanks. But even with that you can still use Eddie and 1/2 damage item to make thinks tolerable.

And Gamer's Day, because it's tedious, even if you can just beat Wily's Castle 5 times.

You can just reload the save and do Wily again? I didn't realize that. I'm not especially motivated to replay Wily 5 times, but that's far less grueling. Good point regarding the extra items you can use to make things more manageable.

Since we're talking about achievements not stacking, I had the strongest urge to play through Mass Effect 1 earlier today. Figured I'd go through on Insanity and wipe out that achievement. Nope. Difficulty level not available. First I have to beat the game on Veteran(not Normal) to unlock Hardcore. Then I have to beat it in Hardcore to unlock Insanity and THEN beat the game on Insanity to get said achievement.

So that means the four playthroughs I did before on Normal didn't mean squat as far as unlocking Insanity. Now I gotta play the game THREE more times on various difficulties to get that achievement. fuck that

Congrats. Should hit 400k myself sometime during the early spring. Was aiming for 416k by April 16th but I don't think that's going to happen. Fell a bit off the wagon these past two months.

Also, you mention 'high 6 digits'. How high is too high? Wondering if I need to go out and buy some sunscreen or not.

You can use the additional playthroughs to get the squad achievements. Then again it sounds like you may have done that already on normal. Bad planning on your part!

Don't have quite as many. Highly recommend Thumper if you like rhythm games. Great without VR, even better with. What's your opinion on Valkyrie, RIGS, Until Dawn, & Battlezone? All are discounted physical this week (BB & Amazon), though Valkyrie & RIGS seem better as digital.

Edit: And to keep at least some of this MS related, what's up with HoloLens? Haven't heard anything new in a while on this front, and have heard zero peeps on MS and VR, thought they were going this route instead.

Until Dawn is very cool. It's just a light gun game, but a very cool step forward with the VR and move controllers, can't recommend it enough if you have move controllers. Rigs is very cool, but I imagine it would be better if I had friends with it. It's 3v3 mech games played as a future sport. There a few different modes that make it interesting and I've had a lot of fun with it, but I think the studio just shut down, so I doubt it'll get Future support which is kinda important for an online game. Eve Valkyrie is pretty cool, but probably not worth full price. I haven't played a ton, but it's pretty good, just not great from what I've tried. And I haven't even gotten to play Battlezone yet.

Also if you wanna play some VR online my GT is the same on Playstation

You're fine. I never finished XIII because I got sick of the railroading. All you really need to know is that the heroes manage to complete their goal and rescue Serah, that Serah is Lightning's sister, and that Snow is Serah's fiance. XIII-2 also has a little summary that outlines the basics of the first game. 2 pretty much follows new characters for the entire story, Serah is from 1, but she's trapped in crystal the entire game. You see a few other characters but honestly knowing their past in relation to this game isn't important, since Serah didn't really know them either.

1 is a bit more important for Lightning Returns, though only really because you see the original party more, as each have a quest or two connected to them. And even then I don't think it's overly important. Really all three of these games feel pretty disjointed. 2 basically retcons the end of 1 and then is spent time traveling so you don't really feel much impact from the events of one. And Lightning Returns is set 500 years after 2, again leaving little connection beyond a few character relationships.

Anyways, seen the Resident Evil movie. No spoilers here. It's bad, I'd probably say third least bad overall, behind 1 and 5. They basically throw out the majority of the set up from the previous movie to go a different direction, which is kind of whatever. What really hurt the movie bad for me was the editing. I'm not normally super bothered by this unless it's really noticeable, but I think this was the worst I've ever seen in this regard. Anytime there is action there are constant cuts, dozens per minute. It's extremely distracting and generally hard to follow. The only movie that comes to mind as being close to as incomprehensible is Transformers 2. Beyond that there were a lot of little plot holes and "What?" moments, but its fairly fitting for the ups and downs this series has had.

I will say the effects for the computer transition stuff were a lot better than the previous movie. I rewatched it yesterday and any time the Red Queen was on screen she looked like shit.

For those who got the $10 Bestbuy code, check to see if you got a reminder email. I just got an email telling me not to forget to use the code because it expires today, but they sent me a new code.

Oblivion GOTY edition, 2 discs? I want to pick it up for Shimmering Isles, not sure how it works.
You install the dlc from disc 2, play the game from disc 1. Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas are the same way. If you're playing via BC though, you have to put disc 2 in to be able to play the dlc. At least that was my experience with New Vegas.

Turns out I don't have the Sonic games digitally so I picked up the Genesis and Dreamcast ported games/DLC.

Something tells me not to buy Sonic Generations and Sonic Unleashed yet so I'll save my $20 for something else, or when Xbox has them on sale again.

I'm gonna play thru the demos again, but I'm leaning towards most likely getting Until Dawn (only $10 currently), skipping Battlezone and probably RIGS (rather have digital & the developer was shut down) until a lower price, and probably getting Eve. I'd rather have digital at that price but I'll eat the VR luxury tax. I have Eve Gunjack, and for the normal price ($10) it is good for what it is (think Galaga, but in the Millennium Falcon gun turret).

I'll add.

And to go back on topic, I'll share:
