Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Not trolling you with this, honestly, just curious if this changes your opinion on the impending death of BC.
No. The limited titles available to the team will still be an issue. Even if this is extremely successful, I don't see publisher's who haven't had a desire to make their titles BC, suddenly change their mind by in large. Nor do I see them re-working deals, to put games on this service. BC's death could be extended if Kinect titles could suddenly work with the Xbox One however.

I do however look forward to all the tweets major nelson will get about "when will bo2 come to game pass" though. Even if it becomes BC, they will never stop now lol.

I just had a mental awakening. This new program now gives them a business incentive to try to go back and get original Xbox games working. Adds value for probably a very low cost since its not like pubs are selling them anymore. OG Xbox BC is surprisingly not dead as a possibility!

It was never dead as a possibility, and was more technologically likely given the original Xbox's x86 based hardware vs. the PowerPC 360 hardware. The CPU driven code could probably even be run directly on the XB1. The problem is the Xbox's GPU was pretty customized, last I checked the home brew scene hasn't had good results emulating it well. But since MS has the original specs, it should be easier for them.
Until something official is announced or even HINTED at, this talk needs to cease. I can't take the unofficial hype you guys are pulling out of me...

Cities Skylines was just ESRB rated, so that 'Spring' release window is mostly likely very soon.

(3/20 is the start of Spring, officially...)

Thanks for posting this.

I have been patiently waiting for word on this port since it was announced back in August 2015.

I have the game on Steam, but want to play with a controller. (I was pretty disappointed to learn that "Partial Controller Support" on Steam only meant an official Steam Controller profile had been created.)

I stand correct. As per Kotaku:

"Players will have access to all games on the pass as long as they remain in the library and the player remains subscribed. Should the player unsubscribe or a game leave the library, the games will be removed, but the save data from those games will be saved should the player restart the sub or purchase the game."

Still not a bad deal imo

So basically if you sub make sure to download every game as it's added and then never unsub.

No, it means if they pull a game from the service, you are done with it even if you had downloaded it and are in the middle of playing it. Make sure you finish a game before the 1st of the month or whenever they refresh. Hopefully they say in advance what is going to be leaving.

Now that I reread that I see that, thought it meant your downloaded library but forgot they also are adding that new library part. Don't know why anyone here would want it still, none of us actually play games.

because we get to add 100+ games to our backlog that we will never touch while spending money in the process. DUH!

would you guys recommend pvz 2 deluxe at all for the single player offline play only?

I know not to expect much in that scenario but it looks cute

The game is excellent if you play offline, too. There is a whole 'backyard' world hub with loads of things and challenges to do.

Not a big deal if games that are removed are no longer playable as long as they give people a sizable warning. Maybe 2 month advanced notice which games are rotating out.

Everything I have read said it is always online. Was this patched out as the info I see is from mid 2016. The reason I have not got this is because of always online and if it doesn't have that I want to make sure and grab it.

hmm

I thought the first was always online and the second wasn't?

Sorry - I meant if you play solo (but still technically 'online'). It might need a full time required internet connection. I'm always online so I never think of this. Apologies for the confusion.

I'm torn on it. Either it's a brilliant move or Xbox is hurting and needs to compensate for lack of exclusives. With the success of EA access though, it could be a very big hit.
Until we know what games we can play for $10 a month I am reserving my judgement. I think it could be VERY cool. But if it is mostly older titles (2+ years) I spent the last year trying to catch up on the XBox One games I missed since launch. I still have a decent stack of games to get through.

I don't see me using it too often. Maybe 1 or 2 months a year. $120 a year is too expensive. Unless it includes a lot of new (6 months or so) AAA games which I can't see happening. Funny how when Nintendo announced their new rental service tons of people thought it was stupid. MS does a similar service and people think it is great. Do you need Gold as well? $180 a year before discounts is pretty steep. Again really depends on what titles they offer.

I thought Sonys PlayStation Now service was overpriced (and streaming games like that sucks). I did the beta and had ZERO interest in the service. They are removing it from everything but the PS4 and PC soon. Stupid over priced lame system.

But for others it could be a great service and could really catch on. I don't think it is a huge system seller or anything. Just nice to have.

Nintendo's was stupid because it offered 1 SNES or NES game with added features. This is a 100+ titles for $10. I expect around 80% of which to be Xbox 360 games. That's not a bad thing, because they had a lot of great stuff. Also If its been a GWG in the past, I bet you can probably tab it for this service.

$10 is the sweet spot for me, around what a GameFly rental costs, but with multiple titles. I have to agree though that the selection will make or break the decision of my subscription. Based on the image, most of those titles I already own or have been on sale for under $10.

As for the Nintendo games, they aren't a subscription system, they are free titles similar to PS+/ Gold, but you don't get to keep them, and none of the titles are current. If there were a standalone $10/month subscription for access to 100 VC games, then it would be an awesome deal. I would pay double that if they added in Gamecube games.

Less than $1 per game. I like it
That's only assuming you can play all 100 games in a month. Assuming a 31 day month, that's 3.2 games per day. Good luck with that. :)

It really depends on how recent the games are. When I had Gamefly, I could count on it to send me new games. That's a huge benefit. If Xbox Access is doing 1+ year old games, then it's not really competing with Gamefly, imo.

Good point about the handful of games Nintendo will offer. I took about a 3 year break from XBox and even so have a crapton of game to play. Even on the few lists of what is available (or will be) I have decent amount of them already. Many of them I will never play already.

Picked up a lot of cheap physical games over the last year (I got my XBox One in March last year). I hate recurring monthly charges. I can see me doing it for a month or two though and playing through some games vs buying them cheap and then trying to trade them. Just don't see me paying $120 (or even $100) a year for it. Between Live, PSN and EA Access I think I pay enough for subs as it is.

I always wanted to do Game Fly but figured I would either force myself to play games I didn't want to play at the time or they would sit for weeks and months and I wouldn't get the value out of it. After I finish a game I can be picky or hesitant to start something else up. Finished Forza Horizon 3 a week or so ago. Still having fun but really need to play something else and come back to it. I look at the back log on both systems (Both digital and physical) and decide to play nothing or just fire up FH3 and try to knock out another achievement or two.

Nintendo is in a weird spot. The only reason they've survived so many missteps is due to the value of their own IPs, but they simultaneously over-value old games and make them available in ways which really aren't consumer friendly when compared to the competition. I'm forever annoyed that VC games will probably never be cross-buy, for example.

And they're not even making good use of those IPs now. You could at least count on playing really good "Nintendo" games on their consoles even if no one else was making anything for them but the last couple years it's been a lot of rehases and ports and recycled stuff and an overall level of mediocre to bad. You just didn't see that from their own games and their big name franchises until the last two or three years.

Not Xbox related but
why was Groo banned again? I was more of a lurker when it happened and I couldn't piece it together at the time from the comments that weren't nuked.

I thought you weren't allowed within 500 yards of a school?!

That's why he was driving 80 mph through it!

I won't even get my hopes up since Gladius would never be made BC, anyway.

I see Youtube is launching a $35 a month tv streaming service soon
Seems too high. That's close to the cost of paying for cable/satellite TV. Plus with live streaming that means more commercials. No thank you. Many already pay for internet from their cable provider anyway. They can get better deals by bundling if they really wanted TV too.

I'll stick with free antenna TV if I must watch something live. For most other stuff I prefer on demand without a ton of commercials. Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime are just fine for under $10 a month.

Many of the networks already offer their shows for free with their own channels on Roku or via their apps/websites anyway.

Charter has a similar streaming service and it costs $12.99 - $19.99 a month and it also includes HBO or Showtime.

I just got the achievement in FH3 for completing all 63 exhibitions and was surprised how rare it was at 1.71%. Now on to complete all the championships as I have only done 20 so far. God I love this game so much.

Game really is amazing. The fact that all those races can be done in online coop makes it a ton more fun too

I'm down to only about 5-6, but hopefully one of the remaining ones can be completed with a Subaru for one of the active challenges.

Not a fan of these mid-week challenges. I've only missed 2 batches, one was a Tue-Thu batch I had no idea was happening, and the other was a Thu-Sat batch. I fired the game up on Sunday to complete them, and they had already ended. WTF. I pay more attention to them now.

the multiplayer trials in Dead Rising 4 are an insufferable grind. 250 missions and 50 boss kills was way too much. They should have lowered it to 150 missions and 25 boss kills. And the trial for reviving everyone in one day without anyone dying is impossible, I can't find a group of 3 others and even when I do get into a four player match, nobody EVER goes down.

W...T...F...  I don't know what happened, but both of my XB1's reverted back to the old public dashboard and now I'm getting an error when I try to launch the insider app.  I was in Alpha preview, too.  Anyone else having trouble with it right now?
