Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Sounds like a gamer after my own heart. I think the only thing stopping me from doing the same is that my son will be born in a few months and my wife might literally kill me if I buy any more games, lol. Still, the temptation is there and I might have to take some side computer repair jobs to fund my gaming/collecting/Trails addictions.

My one hope in all of this is that the sales for the Cold Steel and Trails of trilogy help them decide to port over the Zero/Azure games.

 
I started a Fire Emblem Heroes in the Mobile iOS unless you can all can think of a better place so we do not bog down this thread.

They just started the inherit skills and I am already looking for new combos.

I am thinking of adding Wrys Heavely Light to Elise, as I love the idea of healing all allies every 2 turns 10 HP.

It technically is a fan game since Christian Whitehead (Taxman) has worked on Sonic fan games prior to Sega hiring him. As for the Modern Sonic games they've honestly been on the right path since the Boost Mechanic was introduced in Sonic Unleashed and have done great through Sonic Generations but for some ungodly reason decided to drop it afterwards when they did Sonic Lost World. Thank our goddess Lightning that they decided to go back to it with Sonic Forces.

Yeah when it comes to Sonic games it's like, if it ain't broke, break it with a sledgehammer and try to fix it afterwards. Lost World was okay but the Parkour thing was not necessary. That said I did have some fun with it. I'll finish it one of these days (F U Sky Road Act 2). Oh...and I thought I'd be able to play better on the PC version. If you want to beat it, stick to the Wii U one.

But thanks! That Sonic Forces video looks like Generations 2. Not that there's anything wrong with that. That's also gotta be Crush 40 (Jun Senoue) music although everyone following them knew they were working on this game. Um, is it just me or do one of the new bots look a little...NeiR Automata-ish?

 
Got bored of Yakuza 0....and will rush through it after I finish the hostess club mini game (about an hour left I think). It plays OK enough and the story is OK, but it's missing something. It will be pretty awesome as someone's first Yakuza game, but I felt this one goes a bit too much on the melodrama and doesn't tell a great story. It seems very one dimensional, and I'm sure most of these people (sans a few MCs) don't matter much to the bigger picture of later games. I for one love Yakuza stories, so I was highly disappointed in this one. I do like it gives a better background on Majima, but the other stuff is very fluffy. The voice acting and animated scenes are excellent though. I feel in the end it will be a 7/10 or less game especially if you have played the better Yakuza games. I will give an update once i'm done though and I'm a 1000% sure I wont seek that platinum. A massive amount of work is needed for it too.

On another note i've been playing 11Eyes and it seems like an excellent VN. I generally don't like the action visual novels, but this one seems to be top notch. It has great graphic as well as the characters having very interesting back stories and many flaws. I also like how the MC feels very human and is easy to relate to. I still haven't notched an ending, but i'm getting close. I'm early rating at least an 8/10, but I feel it could be better depending on the endings. I am likely going to bum rush out an ending today as I'm growing very attached to all the main characters, which is not as common for VNs. I usually gravitate to 1 or 2, but the ones here feel balanced and nice.

Of course, the first zone in Lost Worlds 3DS, despite the parkour, was probably more honestly Sonicy than the rest of the 3D Sonic games put together.

The rest of that game looked terrible, though, so I never bothered to go past the demo.

Glad I still have my pre-orders from June 7, 2016.

Pre-orders were open for like nine months and they obviously aren't going to make as many units as there are pre-orders because they don't want to lose money. Probably half the orders from any listing will get cancelled.

Funny I pre ordered mine a week after on June 14, 2016.

I had to go check mine to make sure as I have been so excited for this game and the pre order as well.

Persona 5 Steelbooks still available for pre-order on Amazon though, so can't imagine why'd they cancel those.

I can understand maybe the TYH editions though since they're no longer available on Amazon.

BB the TYH editions still available for pre-orders, and my order is fine still.

 
Finally finished the first route of 11eyes. The actual character route part of the story....was OK and kind of silly, but not amazing. Now the story itself....was actually pretty good. It kept me engaged the whole time, and i'll see how different the routes get....I think it's going to end similarly but with parts in the middle and end changing. The graphics are great too. The music....eh....forgettable but it evoked the mode alright. I'm rating it likely an 8.5/10 maybe even 9/10. It was pretty unique honestly and had a lot to all the characters. It's pretty much the opposite of Chronoclock, where I felt details were missing all over. Here I feel you get know the MCs extremely well, and even there is like another mode called CrossVision where you see story points from characters points of view. It really helps complete the viewpoints in the story and they are well worth watching. I think the only ones I stopped watching were the non main group of characters, since I found it kind of boring, but i'm sure I'll eventually watch them all. Well worth reading and would be a good story even without the eroge parts. There is parts of the story that are still not revealed after 1 beating of the game....which hopefully will make the repeats have an okay story. Time to start route two.

Edit: Finished the main routes and at least 1 side one. I'm keeping it at an 8.5....and for once the endings kind of make sense. I was like how did it all come to be...and the last ending told it all. A nice wrap up to the story. I wish the characters endings had a bit more to them. I especially felt that Yuka's was super, super weak. With more involved and longer character arcs at the end....would have been a 9/10 easily. Still a very good game I highly recommend for something different than the usual VNs.

Unfortunate that Nier Automata has so many problems with the port.

I spent about an hour yesterday replaying the tutorial section because it kept crashing.

If you have an AMD card, the best way to keep it from crashing right now is to use older graphics drivers. Source

If you haven't bought it yet but still want to, GMG has it the cheapest. Use coupon code LL7EX3-QS5DLU-235NYA to take an extra 5% off bringing the total to about $46.

While on GMG, they also have a sale going for Fruitbat Factory games and Galgun. With the above coupon it makes it lower than the steam lowest price.

Also I was still considering God Eater from indiegala but I'm not sure. Not my type of game I think. It could still go lower too.

I'm glad I pre-ordered from both BB and Amazon a while back. Haven't seen any emails from Amazon but not taking any chances. BB pre-order is not available for shipping anymore either.

Keep forgetting to install it to play but since ME is coming Tues and P5 right around the corner I'm gonna hold off. It was rated pretty highly when it came out so I'm not surprised the story is good.

 
Amazon has consistently been overselling their CE/LE editions, I'd advise avoiding them moving forward for these type of drops

I still don't think that makes you safe. I ordered a Master's Edition of BotW from Amazon within five minutes of the listing going up and it was cancelled the week before shipment. For reference, it was up for ~20 minutes.

It's not a lot. It turns out to be only 5% of the pre orders. And it is likely to be Amazon's fault, not ATLUS.

Apparently they randomize their cancellations; it's not timestamp based. So it's a lottery to see who loses.

I'm luckier with the timing on this than you. My younger son is 5, and he is a massive Cold Steel fan. He can't read well enough to play it on his own, but he watched me play about 150+ hours between the 2 games. My non-gamer wife had to put the whole Cold Steel soundtrack in her iPhone playlist because of him. Pretty sure she won't be able to say no to both of us on this one lol.

Yeah you're right. One of my friends ordered within a minute of when it went up, and her order got cancelled. I ordered probably 10-15 min after it went up, and I made multiple payment method changes and gift card additions for weeks afterwards and still didn't get mine cancelled.

When I had Amazon Prime I stopped ordering manga and books from them. I was consistently getting bubble mailers and my book were arriving all beat up with bent corners and such. One time the whole front cover was bent back.....I just got tired of it because it was too consistent.

I get the same issue but I don't order enough from them to be annoying...yet. Last time I complained the next LN that came was actually in a box for once.

 
An Amazon Manager told me that it is actually policy to send books and stuff like that in a box. The workers are not supposed to put it in bubble mailers. However, workers will still put it in bubble mailers cuz they're lazy to make the box, put the items inside, cushion, and tape it up. They rather put it in a bubble mailer.

This is not accurate. The Amazon packing process is not manual in any respect. There is a computer algorithm that tells the packer what packing to use in each instance. There have been plenty of instances where collectible books and other items have been shipped in bubble mailers to everyone who ordered just that item from multiple warehouses.

 
So, the Xenoverse II PS4 CE is 65.69 with the Lightning deal.

Worth it? Didn't play much of the first game. Is it really heads and shoulders better than the first? 

Statue does look nice though.
