Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Well just got an outstanding employee bonus today so I bought a 2 TB Segate external off Amazon for $70.

Now to debate if I download Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls Online this month. My bandwidth cap is that terrible, I can safely download only one game a month that is over 40 gigs.
That's a tough choice. I've played a bit of Andromeda but haven't played ESO yet. I like mass effect but am more of a fantasy fan than sci fi. I couldn't imagine having a data cap. I upgraded from a 2TB to a 4TB and installed 1TB of games over the course of a week. My place would be screwed if we had a data cap, 5 people that have at least four things each that could potentially use data.

As someone who had to deal with a 10 GB cap, I feel you man, I feel you.

The Xbox One takes up a hell of a lot of bandwidth that's for sure. Feel like with the future that's only going to be a progression on that front. ISPs are gonna have to step things up. 4K streaming movies, games, social media, smart this/smart that, everything is running off that 'ol bandwidth tube.

ISPs will have lots more money to spend on upgrading their infrastructure now that they can start selling our browsing habits, unless the courts (hopefully) step in.

I don't understand a lot of what that guy was saying, but if MS and AMD did somehow develop some new super-powered technology that can only be used in Scorpio that would be pretty amazing
And stupid. Why would AMD invest millions to develop CPU/APU whatever they call it for one console which is likely to sell less then the XBox One which sells less then the PS4? At least for a year or so.

Really makes little sense to me. I think the Scorpio is going to be really cool but even most of the die hard XBox fans here are going to wait till they upgrade their TVs before getting one.

I don't really think Jim is a troll to be honest.  Does he sometimes do outrageous shit? Yeah.  But I just think he does not care to conform to what the industry would like.  As far as page views that is a moot point.  He is fully funded by Patreon and there are no ads on any of his material.  He even purposely puts content on his Youtube videos that results in multiple companies claiming it just to make them fight over the "rights" to the non-existent ad revenue. Jim and TotalBiscuit (and another person I cannot remember) were just at Valve to look at and discuss changes that should be made to Steam to make it better. He has been a pretty big champion of trying to get the shit games and asset flippers out of Steam greenlight  to the point he has been sued for millions of dollars.  I do not always agree with him but I think his opinion is valuable in the gaming community.

His commentary is whatever you want to call it. He is creative even when he's being inflammatory and I find some of it entertaining. But scoring a game that isn't broken a 2/10 is a troll score.

a 2 is a game that is bad, if you don't look at someones review score guide then criticizing it seems dumb to me, his scale does not mean working games gets a 7 or above like sites like IGN.

Yeah, screw those guys for making a choice in response to the choices someone else, one of their contractors at that, made!
The choice to release a game not optimized for the platform that people purchased it on. Sure. Hey, it's a free market and they can release whatever product that they want but I won't support their poor decisions (whether that game optimization or witch hunting a voice actor making warbling sounds because of his political views) with my wallet.

^ OK, now I officially have no idea what we are talking about.  I was able to fake it for a few posts, but now I can't even.

Yeah, screw those guys. That day one guy spent removing some of the voice work that was already paid for could have been used for polish! I bet they were plotting it for months and staged the whole thing as a publicity stunt instead of working on the game, devious bastards.

Maybe but this is a quote from a 7/10 review.

"Yooka-Laylee is a good game, but not as good as we expected. Great ideas not so well-executed, with minor issues and big ones, including the controls and level design. Still, this type of game has been disappeared for so long that if you like the genre you will definitely enjoy it."

I mean the game might not be broken but if the game has big control issues and level design it would seem to me that is something imperative in a platformer. There are 14 reviews already at 6 and below. In this current review culture that is a bad game.

From what GameXplain was saying it is fundamentally broken on XboxOne suffering from major frame rate issues and bad 90's style camera control issues.

I Still don't know what the fuck a jontron is. Is that another youtube personality that plays video games with over exaggerated reactions to get video views?

And yet it still has a 73 average on Metacritic with plenty of 8s as well.

I was looking at stuff in the PS Humble Bundle that have 40s for the average (still got it because the others were 70+). A game scoring below a 50 average is a bad game. A game that has an average over 70 is far from bad in today's culture.

Well on the PS4 it is sitting a 67. I wish Metatcritic did a better job curating the console scores. I am not saying it is bad. I would have to play it but when a game see several score at 6 and below there are most likely some major issues with the game.

Can't we all just agree that the review scales are just as subjective as the review scores themselves?  The best way to see if you dig a game is to try it.

If I had listened to review scores at the time, I would have never played Mad Max.  Sure, the game had its flaws and was frustrating at times, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it and don't regret buying it close to release.   Seems like the review scores have balanced out to reflect that too, seeing how Mad Max sits at a 72 on metacritic.  I've realized that if a game is in a genre I like, and it's in the 70's range or higher, there's a really good chance I'll enjoy it.

Granted, I say that with the understanding that the game functions as it was intended.  If there's fundamental problems with the game running, then I'd expect review scores to just not exist.  Refuse to review broken games.  I think a bunch of N/A scores would be more damaging to a reputation then low scores and would also catch publisher/developer attention more than review scores that are all over the place.

Of course, the way gamer culture is these days, I'm sure we'd ruin that idea too.

But...that would require me accepting other people's opinion's that aren't similar to mine! CUT HIS MIC! CUT HIS MIC! NO SPIN ZONE, PAL!

I didn't know who he was until today. Basically he ran his mouth and said some alt right things on twitch , YouTube went crazy, Playtronics got wind of it and said they would delete his warble sounds in a upcoming patch, tons of people want refunds from the kickstarter because they thought he was going to make sounds in the game.

Yeah, he used to be part of Game Grumps that was one of the more popular let's play channels. He since left to make (sometimes) gaming related comedy stuff, mostly reviews. He's gotten way too political for his own good, and said some dumb stuff that was bothered a lot of people, which is why Playtonic dropped him. I don't know for sure, but I think most people that watch the goofy gaming Youtube stuff intend to get away from all the political talk that's been going on for the past year.

I don't think keeping him in the game would have really hurt, maybe it would have turned away a few hundred buyers, but for a game going for maximum jolly it makes sense to have no association with that nonsense.

Wait, people buy games just because some random live streamer makes gibberish noises in the game? Goddamn, that is the dumbest fucking thing my senses have now come across since that Bray Wyatt-Randy Orton match at Wrestlemania.

I agree with you. I guess the issue I have with it is that if they got a bunch of free publicity from a YouTuber with a couple million viewers because he was offered a part in it if they reached a stretch goal could seem like a bait and switch.

Yeah, screw those guys who paid him in compensation for his work and related publicity and for giving him that money regardless because he had a contract!

I guess all of Gears 4's "classic" maps are going to be stuff from Gears 3. It must be easiest to port them over or something. Maybe they bit of more than they could chew with 2 maps a month. Better than garbage like changing the time of day and calling it a new map at least.

It's weird that YouTube personalities are held more accountable than our politicians

And that guy is a piece of shit it seems. And all he had to do was keep his piece of shit personal views to himself and none of this would have happened.

Yeah, screw those fans who gave them money to see a personality in a game they were making then took him out at the for having a different opinion than them!

Finished up Batman Telltale on 360. Holy hell is that game a glitchfest. I feel bad for whoever played that game first on 360/PS3 vs current gen. Constant audio glitches/lip syncing, frame rate drops to 15 fps, screen blackouts, just a mess. And the last chapter DAMN Can't tell you how many character models that never loaded and it looked like a mime fight. One guy after the next tossing and tumbling with no one. Don't even get me started on the boss battle. Ten seconds of action, then fifteen seconds of loading. It was atrocious.

Having said that, I'd still rate it 3.5/10. Yes, it had horrendous glitches and bugs, but it was playable(most the time). The issues sucked me out of the experience time & time again. But I can see the effort the devs put in and the vision they had. Yooka-Laylee seems to come from that same mold. If you were looking for a 90's platformer-made-by-og devs in 2017 that is a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee is it to a tee.

Jim Sterling is a great video game journalist, but I don't trust his REVIEWS any more. Breath of the Wild 7/10, Yooka-Kaylee 2/10.....Deadly Premonition? 10/10. Yeah okay. I applaud Jim for trying to clean up Steam and provide interesting pieces about the gaming industry which has been around for decades. So I see the same kind of crap and scream "YES!" when he calls out publishers, horrible devs and terrible industry norms.

tl;dr Find game reviewers whom you agree with. Everyone has an opinion and we're in the day and age where they're shared freely(but beware, if you're on a public platform like Jontron there are repercussions). Batman Telltale sucks on 360; get it for X1

See I don't get reviewers now, what are you reviewing, the product that a team of devs worked on, for a certain amount of time/money or an idea? This was the same response when Mass Effect: Andromeda came out. It's good but it's not as good as we thought it was gonna be.

I bought Prey because Art Bell is in it. But I only paid $3 for each of the two copies I got. (still haven't played it)

Yeah those guys are the worst, don't they know the first amendment means freedom from consequences of your actions? Screw em!

Jesus F Christ... What the freaking hell?
A door. Don't let that detract from the awesome game that is Prey(it really is an excellent game). I guess we've seen and talked about so much worse in this thread. It is the internet so I've waded through darker corners myself *shrug*
