Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

@closedsocket, you realize you started this OT by saying people who support Playtonics decision "hate freedom of speech" right? With that kind of hyperbole I don't know what else you expected.

Playtonics is a perfect example of a lack of regulation and the free market. Companies make decisions based on market demand, and things which are unpopular (whether its a Wii U or racism) are things they distance themselves from in the interest in continuing to do business. Homeboy is just as free as he was the day before to say whatever the hell he wants on Twitter, but I can't blame anyone for not wanting to be associated with him, and it's not like they broke a legal contract.

Bringing it full circle, I get so tired of the word opinion as if all "opinions" are equally harmless. Jim Sterling has opinions, but they don't really matter or hurt anyone. Perpetuating xenophobia and racism ain't the same thing.

5 has a way better chance at getting a Switch port than Xbox. They already have the unnamed Shin Megami Tensei game coming, and they had Tokyo Mirage Sessions last year.

I think an Xbox port would have been more likely to launch at the same time as PS4, now it's just a lot of work for probably not a lot of sales. Final Fantasy only sold about 20% on Xbox and that's the most mainstream JRPG series besides Pokemon. Persona has a good reputation but is relatively unknown to the average gamer.

I also don't think it was PR suicide when the Chik Fil A owner was donating to anti-lgbt charities, they pulled in record profits the next few days, lol.
Again, this is not a good comparison. While a lot of people do think this is shitty, it's not a direct attack on their employees/customers or a company policy. You originally said "It's just as bad as the christian employers that see someone supporting LGBT rights and punish them".

The Chik Fil A donation is much more comparable to the Palmer Lucky's idiotic decision to donate money and allegedly have involvement in that alt right group. It upset a lot of people and many indie devs said they would no longer be bringing games to Oculus. Facebook quickly donated a million dollars to some charity and apologized, and then Luckey basically stayed silent until he left the company last week. I won't say he resigned because of this, it was definitely more from the $500,000,000 he cost the company in in the Zenimax case, but it was at least a factor.

I'm done talking about politics, lets move on to a more fun off-topic topic.

See, this is where I'm not sure that Playtronics didn't break a contract with their fans and kickstarter supporters (who may have contributed to reaching stretch goals to have a YouTuber make sounds for their game). When the segment of the community that supported them for certain goals got upset and demanded a refund they were refused a refund. At best they broke the trust of the fans of JonTron and at worst they broke a legal contract (although I doubt that once funds are released to them that they have to do exactly what they said they would do within reason).

Like you said though, this is the free market and there is little regulation. I didn't support this kickstarter. If they put out a quality game I may have purchased it but the way it looks now it is sub-par quality and they have over politicized this interaction with their community so I doubt I'll ever buy this game.

Gamegirlpocket keeps saying what I'm planning on saying and it seems everyone wants to move on, so I'll leave it at that re: alleged censorship. Re: the Kickstarter angle, Kickstarter is a real buyer beware situation. As far as I know, companies and individuals who do Kickstarter campaigns are under no legal obligation to release the product as they promised it or even release any product at all.

EDIT: In case your bored, here's a short article about my favorite failed Kickstarter story, which involved the creator going off the deep end and never sending anything to most of the backers. Not a video game, but still a good cautionary tale. Fortunately everything I've ever backed has come to fruition. http://kickfailure.com/2013/04/17/the-sad-story-of-katalyka/

I would be interested in seeing Persona 5 for Xbox One. I've never played any of the series and I'm pretty cautious about jumping into longer games at this point, but more options would be a good thing.

So, regarding Scorpio, is it a thing now that you need to have a 4K TV to benefit from it? Because I don't see it that way. I thought that the One S was only supposed to be of benefit if you have a 4K TV, but Scorpio's benefits would be apparent regardless of your HDTV, because we're talking frame rates, draw distances, etc.

I'll never understand when devs lock a game on a specific platform without being paid. Both PS4 and X1 share the same architecture, they're really similar, is a porting really that hard? Is it really not worth it?

That's the way it works on the PS4 pro and I think it's safe to assume it would be that way on the Scorpio. Think of it how some of the BC titles preform better on the Xbox One. I have a 4k tv so I'm in regardless but I do see the Scorpio dismissed by a lot of people here that say they don't have any interest in a 4K tv and I think they are overlooking some of that..

Scorpio would still be beneficial to 1080p owners as well. From some of what Phil said before/rumours/leaks, games like Halo 5, which has to drop resolution at times to maintain the 60fps, could get patched so it's a consistent 1080p/60fps. If devs go the RotR route on the PS4 Pro, we could see options between stable frames, 4K, etc.

At the very least, it's supposed to have the "ability" to render the games at the highest quality and then downsample it to 1080p, so you'd still get some bonuses to the graphics.

I'm not dismissing it for the 4K issue (I have a 4K/HDR TV). I'm dismissing it because I don't want to spend $400-$500 on a system where the main benefit is only better graphics/performance.

I buy new consoles to play the latest games. If I can play the latest games with what I have now, I'm not not in a hurry to buy a new one.

Not saying I won't get it. I'll have to see if it wows me with other features and the price point. Or I may get it further down the line when it drops in price.

Drawing distance and some frames per second might not be enough incentive for those of us on 720p or 1080i sets to upgrade for a few hundred bucks. Like most tech things you pay to be on the cutting edge. I will wait and see what they announce tomorrow, what the marketing hype is and what the real impact is to me. The last year or so I have being using a 720p set. Prior to that a 1080 plasma. Probably buy a new TV for the living room and move the plasma back down stairs. I am not going to trade my XBox One for $75 plus whatever GS does as a promo and dropping $499 or whatever on Scorpio for what looks like minimal improvements to me on a less then 4K HDR TV. I didn't want to spend $499 on a XBox One when they launched (and didn't).

Just like I skipped over the PS Pro so far for many of the same reasons. Granted the Scorpio should be an even nicer machine then the Pro.

But if there are other benefits or features exclusive to the Scorpio that are not known and I think they are worth trading my XBox One and upgrading I will.

I think that is the wisest approach. Wait for price drop and/or when they start having good Scorpio exclusives. (For those of us who don't care for 4K or VR.)

I looked at their Kickstarter and there's nothing there about JonTron. Even the news updates don't mention it either, so it doesn't seem like that was ever part of the pitch unless I'm missing something.

At least from what's been said so far there won't be any Scorpio "exclusives".

BC predictions for tomorrow

Dantes Inferno
Crysis
MGS HD
That would be pretty solid (no pun intended), but needs more Arcade action, as it seems like most BC updates include one or more XBLA games. I'm predicting:

RISK Factions

Amy

Monster High: New Ghoul in School

For most Japanese developers, they go where the audience is and the vast majority of that is on the Japanese consoles that many of them own and Xbox has very little presence at all. If they want to hit the western market, that seems to be where Steam and other PC marketplaces have come into the picture. Even Square Enix is moving away from Xbox and sticking to the other platforms for most of their games these days.

I'd love to jump on Scorpio as soon as it drops, just like I did with the Pro and the S, but given how quickly the S dropped I think I'm going to slow play it.

^ Eeesh. Looks as bad as DC Universe Online. (That game stopped being fun upon exiting the character creation screen.)

Saved you guys a click:

I'll be rooting for Monster High. I haven't played that one yet and I'm sure I will at some point. It would be nice to play in on my X1, I really don't enjoy firing up my 360 anymore plus the optical drive is on it's last legs.

Dragon Age Origins, Medal of Honor Airborne and FIfa 17 hitting the Vault

Fifa 17 is April 21st. No dates on the others (atm) but will hit the Vault by late June.

Enter the Gungeon! Lasertime's Dave Rudden swears by it and I really want to try it, but the CAG in me says to wait on a sale because I won't get to it for a long time. Argh!
I know right, it's that fabled game we keep hearing about lol.

The Xbox One S delivered improved performance, gave you a smaller form factor - which led to needing less power -, better performing HDD too, and supported games delivered HDR gaming - with the use of obviously having a TV that supports HDR.

Now the Scorpio or rumored as Xbox One X says it'll deliver 4K resolution, which obviously again you'd have to have a 4K TV to take full advantage of, boasts improved performance - with that big 6 teraflops data point thrown around all the time - and rumors are is small again.

Another Halo 4 update.

It's a love/hate relationship now. The new enemies are soulless and have no personality, and combined with how forgettable I find the music, it makes the whole game feel a lot more shallow. I'm bored shooting at mechanical wolves. It's more like... very well-made fan-fiction than a proper sequel, not unlike how I feel about all the Star Wars movies.

And it stays like that for the rest of the campaign. Although, I have to ask, are you tired of pressing buttons yet? If so, it's about to get a LOT worse in the last few levels.

In addition, I felt the mission designs gave off a been-there-done-that vibe. There were many fights where I would get a sense of deja vu like I had done this exact same thing before, and then remembered there was a fight designed exactly like this in a previous Halo game, but it's just been reskinned here. Like they took blocks and chunks from old games, rearranged them, reskinned them, and tried to present them as new. H4 was the game that made me quit Halo. Only tried H5 briefly via Gamefly. My console came with MCC and I never even bothered to install it. I'm kind of done with the franchise now.

Do you mean quicktime type stuff? I read about that for a boss fight and yeah, I could do without a lot of that. Activating computers and opening doors once in awhile is one thing, but sacrificing interactivity for cinematics needs to be done sparingly.

I kinda liked in the opening level when Chief was climbing up the elevator shaft and you had to dodge stuff, it was brief and an interesting perspective. But again, less is more with this kinda thing, esp. in a shooter.

EDIT @gogomo since it came w/ the collection I'll finish it. I don't hate it but it's more of a departure than the beginning of the game initially suggested. Like I said, well-polished fan-fiction.

Haha. Naw. You know that Gamefly come back for $1/month deal that was on last month? They had one last year as well. One of my friends and I went through all the coop games we didn't have in common and H5 was one of them so I grabbed it via Gamefly just to try it out with him. Did a couple levels of campaign and did some multiplayer. Didn't hook me. Convinced me that I made the right decision to save my money.

I never really got into halo. My roommate in college played 3 a decent amount and I enjoyed what I saw. I got MCC for $10 a while back but haven't really played it. I've played a couple of campaign levels of reach but got distracted but non backlog games, at some point I want to go through and play them all.

I like all the Halo's I was just sad my wife couldn't play Halo 5 split screen with me. We played a ton of Halo Reach split screen, she loves the Firefight matches.

I enjoy this on PC. Looking forward to a console version, but I wish they would allow progress transfers. "No plans" generally means "not happening".

One of the few things I ended up liking from Halo 4 was the music. I don't think it's well represented in game though, listening on it's own it feels a lot better. Definitely unique and not traditional Halo though. If the rest of the game would have went with the angle to match it I think I would have enjoyed the game more.

But they dropped this composer to get back to more traditional Halo music for 5. He's still no Marty, but Jinnouchi does solid work.

See, and I don't know what it is, but any Halo music past Reach just doesn't do it for me. I have all of the soundtracks, and I listen to 3 and ODST the most, followed by 2, then Reach, 1, then 4 and 5. They are extremely well done, but the music is just not as important in the game it seems and so it doesn't stand out as much. Listening to them on their own is fine, but without the connection it's just instrumental music and I'd rather listen to some classical composers at that point.

Anyway just my .02

Halo 4 has the best music of the series...or at least tied with Reach. Like you said, it's not represented in the game that well, but just sitting down and listening to the music by itself...it's the best.

I thought 5 was actually the worst. It sounds like the guy is trying to do a half Marty/half Star Trek movie thing and doesn't really hit either that strong.

Everyone disliked the Halo Wars OST, I quite liked it, esp the ending credits song. Sometimes It's refreshing to get a new composer's take on things. Sure Marty O'Donnell created that infamous Halo sound but it got old after a while - a large part why he was fired when he was contracted to work on Destiny.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phk7di38iv8

Gave me the same feeling of just sitting there enjoying the music while the credits rolled on Mass Effect 1/ Gears of War 1 and reflecting of how much that was an awesome feeling/experience.

Wait... people listen to video game soundtracks on their own?

Wrestling is one thing, but this is a whole new level of weird
I remember back in the day playing Descent 2 on PC. The sound track to that was pretty damn amazing. But not enough for me to really start listening to the bands involved. Did make me more aware of them though. I was already into Type O Negative (or maybe Carnivore) and knew of Skinny Puppy but wasn't into them.

I remember listing to the CD on my computer while not playing games.
