I saw that earlier, bummer. The no dedicated servers news is pretty unfortunate, but on the other hand I haven't been one to experience any terrible lag issues in Destiny with their current p2p networking like some have. I'll reserve judgement on how they handle their new p2p setup upon the beta and release.

If the news is accurate about no cross-saves that's disappointing as well. Going PC would be my first choice, but with the PC version being delayed (until the Holiday season?) I'll likely start out on PS4 to play on release. Building a new PC around the Holidays would be a good excuse to then shift over. Maybe it'll be bundled with an Nvidia card which would also make for an even easier decision.

This news doesn't make or break anything for me, but it does take some of shine off of what does look like a highly anticipated release. It'll still be fun though.

It was alarming to see the four arrow keys for emotes on those guys control sheet for playing Destiny 2 on PC.  If there's no chat or anything special then...

I've read in multiple places that the PC version will have text chat.
It will be just like the current Blizzard games like Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, etc since it is running on Battle.net. So it is text chat in game but you can also use Blizzard Voice and invite everyone into a room that way. Just means that you have to use the Blizzard Launcher if you want to use voice chat. You also have the ability to freely choose what you want to use via 3rd party means Discord, Curse, Teamspeak, etc.

Not to derail this engaging dialog, but what's the hotness in HDDs now. The last drive I bought was a WD Black 3 TB over 2 years ago. It's full of games now, so I needs mo. Needs it.
Im a fan of these:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/478138/X300_5TB_7,200_RPM_SATA_III_6Gb-s_35_Desktop_Internal_Hard_Drive_-_HDWE150XZSTA

The toshiba x300 series. Toshiba is one of the few brands still hitting a good price/perf ratio compared to competitors. Their x300's are also 7200rpm and 128meg cache vs the 64 on most of the competitors. I have a 6tb I use as my steam/origin/ubi drive and a 5tb for movie storage. As a game drive cant complain. Also use the p300, which is the 64meg cache model, in my steamOS box for the living room just cause I needed something cheap with a few TB's and it fit the bill

Didn't The DIvision have dedicated Servers tho
The simple answer is, yes, it does have dedicated servers but at some point when the reviews started going negative (I want to say at about the 1.2-1.3 time frame) Ubisoft swapped them for cheap servers in a cost cutting measure... These servers are just horrible. A quick search (anywhere) shows allot of threads about the lag but the threads I saw where people poked around the PC netcode and saw the changes I cannot find.

Anyhow, while dedicated servers are normally a boom Ubisoft found someway to make them a negative...

Doesn't UbiSoft always find a way to make anything that's normally a positive into a negative? ;)

Open-world games / side-questing in games (i.e. see their whole roster); game-clients (UPlay); and now ded-servers (Division).

I actually enjoy their open world games... Now, I don't play them exclusively (or, naybe, more importantly, excessively) but both Wildlands and The Division I thought was helped story wise by the open world. They both allowed for s more detailed story for those who wanted it without forcing people to it.

But, yeah, they have some sort of skill... And For Honor suffers from a lack of dedicated servers.

Maybe it's a regional server issue... as in not enough regions.

I actually enjoy their open-worlds, too - but they all seem to follow a certain formula (i.e. main quests are great + often cool set-pieces; side-quests are often collect-a-thons + take-over these areas; and some side-quests are actual main-mission style missions maybe) and worst of all is everybody else is copying that formula (i.e. go see Homefront TR)!

FEAR Complete Bundle on BundleStars = $2.99 (95% off):

https://www.bundlestars.com/en/bundle/fear-bundle

Includes FEAR 1 + 2 expansions (Extraction Point + Perseus Mandate); & FEAR 2 + Reborn DLC; & FEAR 3.

Heck, the FEAR 2: Reborn DLC itself at its cheapest has been $2.30, according to ITAD:

https://isthereanydeal.com/search/?q=fear+2+reborn#/page:game/info?plain=feariireborn

EDIT / Quick Thoughts:

I loved FEAR 1 (base-game); Extraction was good; and Perseus was decent.

FEAR 2 was quite good. Never played Reborn DLC; don't own it.

FEAR 3 was okay + decent, but nothing special.

yea its the new battletech game
I just watched that trailer and I think never played any Front Mission games, but it looks an awful lot like MechCommander 3 to me--which would be fantastic. I loved those games when they came out back in the day. Speaking of back in the day, I used to play a game called MechForce that was pretty fun and someone is apparently working on an open-source remake called MechFight.

This sounds like every open-world game to me. The only ones I remember playing that had much in the way of creativity when it comes to side missions are The Witcher 3 and, to a much lesser extent, DA: Inquisition. I'm in the middle of Mafia III at the moment and it fits that description to a "T."

Oh, yes - Mafia 3 definitely has "UbiSoft" style open-world game written all over it, once you get past the Mafia 3 Demo / Intro section.

I think back in the day, most side-quests weren't say collect-a-thons + take over these area missions (i.e. see Homefront TR, Mafia 3, AC series, FC series, etc). More side-quests in open-world games were those Loyalty style missions in those days, like you'd see in Mass Effect 2+3 & Dragon Age: Inquisition. These Loyalty-style quest-lines in those side-quests likely will be shorter than the main-quests, but usually...those side-quests still had set-pieces + more meat to them than the usual MMO-style of quests (Kill X enemies, find X characters, go to X areas, find X items, etc).

It seems like more games - especially in RPG's - are doing more collect-a-thons and MMO-style quests and less of the Loyalty-style quests. Probably easier to do so, to keep the costs of voice-acting, writing, choices, and other things down.

So I thought I was being funny, I was making Uriel's Chasm game number 5,000.  Well, my key was invalid.  So I made Dead Cells number 5K instead and it is a fantastic game.  Early Access and limited content but man is it off to a good start.  The combat feels wonderful.

I eye this DLC whenever it goes on sale on steam... which isn't often so itself is pretty much a deal. (Granted, I see gamersgate had it cheaper but I never remember to look at them.)

I think someone was looking at hard drives... Saw this in email today. (I suspect the link will be gibberish so here's what to to search for TOSHIBA X300 5TB.)

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149628&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=EXPRESS052017&cm_mmc=EMC-EXPRESS052017-_-EMC-052017-Index-_-DesktopInternalHardDrives-_-22149628-S1A1B&ignorebbr=1

Anyhow, 5TBs for 139.99 with code EMCRFCR27 seems like a heck of a deal but its been awhile since I really looked at prices hard.

It would be nice for me to Complete FEAR by getting F2 Reborn, but I'd probably have to Bundle Split or giveaway/sell the other FEAR keys.

I recently bought a 4TB WD EasyStore External HDD from Best Buy for $90. Really needed it, so I can kick games I'm not playing at the moments from my internals over to this huge external.

This is possibly common knowledge to those interested(and into that wacky AMD stuff), but I just received a box for my new build from newegg and there was a promo pamphlet for amd ryzen processors in there.

$30 off with promo code AMDRYZEN17. newegg.com/ryzen for qualifying products. Valid through 6/30/17 while funds last.

I would say it's more a case of todays games being generic than Phantom Dust being weird, but it's weird in a good way if you wanna call it that. PD is one of a kind even when compared to anything released up until now. Really good game with great atmosphere and soundtrack, and does the post-apocalyptic theme right. The amazing thing about it is it released at $20 MSRP lol
Another way to put it is that it's SUPER Japanese in terms of design and aesthetics... and somehow managed to sneak it's way to a US console. The character design, card-based gameplay design, all of that was pretty old hat compared to many games that released- and stayed- in Japan, but almost all of those games stayed there.

Honestly, that's probably one of the better things that came out of the PS2/Xbox era... thanks to increased competition companies (especially smaller publishers) were much more willing to take actual risks.

Dance Dance Revolution, Taiko Drum Master, Guitar Hero... all of these games with ridiculous peripherals finally started to get some attention and make to the US market. Medium sized franchises in Japan that never made their way to the US started popping up with generic looking covers and new names (Multiple Choro Q releases under various generic names like "Road Trip", etc...)

The original Front Mission on SNES/DS is a classic, but Front Mission 4 is one of my all time favorites. High level of customization on the mechs (limbs, torsos, hand and shoulder weapons, pilot skill customizations, etc), engaging storyline, great art, solid voice acting and good characters, challenging difficulty curve, etc. Runs like a dream on PCSX2 as well.

If you're a fan of the genre, I'd recommend the game to anyone. I've beat it way too many times over the years.

MechCommander is part of the BattleTech* universe so the style (buildings, goverments, etc), mechs, weapons, etc will be very, very similar... I would say identical but the new game is turn based and MechCommander was in real time.

* The Mechwarrior series of games in the 90s is also in the BattleTech univerise, which is a pretty big IP (though not nearly as big as it once was) with 100 novels published and an old carton in the 90s... Its pretty much the D&D of mech combat.

Squeenix is going to kill Io Interactive because "their game didn't make enough money" while they waste money on half-priced pizzas.

fucking Squeenix.

It's literally the same universe, just renamed. Mechwarrior was the name of the game series, then the novels was renamed to Mechwarrior (e.g. Dark Ages). I think they went back and started renaming the novels as BattleTech again.

In MechCommander, you fight against the Clan (i.e. the people with the Mad Cat / Timberwolf mech everyone knows). In MechWarrior, you typically play as the Clan.

And stupid me bought the FEAR bundle because I searched for FEAR instead of F.E.A.R on Steam.

So my loss is your gain, or something.

Hey guys,

Need some graphics card advice.  So I build a PC out of some spare parts for my brother in law, but the only place it's lacking is the graphics card department.  The best spare I had was a fanless, low profile 6450 and so it's not very powerful so he's interested in a cheap upgrade that'll let him play the latest games on low-medium settings.

I was trying to find him something as close to $100 as possible.  I see newegg has a refurb 1050 TI 4GB for $120.  EVGA and comes with a 1 year warranty.

Another contender is the 460 4GB.  I've seen those from $100 to $114 new.

The Humble Store has Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain for $7.99 ($7.19 for monthly subscribers). Seems mistake-ish?

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain
No clue if it's a mistake. MSRP is lowish already ($20 in US) so it could be a normal regional sale.

If anyone wants it a bit cheaper ($7.19) let me know and I can buy it for you with my monthly discount. You'd be helping me get rid of my humble wallet.

EDIT: Sold one to Vulgarism and got rid of my wallet.

Both looks like 1080p cards w/ decent settings (Medium+above) at above 30FPS.

Probably throw down some settings (user lower AO or no AO; use Medium or High instead of Ultra; use FXAA instead of stronger AA; don't use VSync + use a FPS cap program) and you could coast to 50-60FPS nicely.

Also, if he goes NVidia - instead of No VSync, he could use FastSync if he needs better performance and still want some kind of Frame-Syncing.

Looks like 1050 Ti is the way to go - check benchmarks:

I don't think is a price mistake. It's just that USA and other regional stores have it priced very cheap. Konami probably fucked up prices when they lowered base game price. Unless it's all part of an evil plan from Konami to make people think is a glitch so it triggers those

"MUST BUY IT NOWWWWW!

Old Prey or Prey 2017?
New Prey 2017. It satisfied my BioShock and System Shock 2 appetite quite well.

Quick Prey thoughts: The story and delivery could have been a bit better. The only glitches I ran into were story related when doing side quest stuff before main story quests. Not a big deal though. The game ran fine and looked great on my i5 + R9 390 PC. I played on Hard difficulty and while I was challenged a few times early on Prey seemed to get much easier once I was better equipped with upgrades just before being half way through. The best part of the game was definitely the atmosphere, and some of the typhon abilities were fun to use.

The one that's relevant to a discussion happening in 2017? There's no ambiguity. Nobody was going to make the incorrect assumption. If he was referencing the original he would have noted that because it isn't relevant to a discussion in 2017.
Well, didn't recently we have discussions about where to buy Prey 2006, since it's no longer on Steam?

I think a few on here just picked it up from somewhere, actually.

Awesome. I've really been hoping for a Bioshock + System Shock series style of game to scratch that itch.

Now, I just need a major price-drop, of course...
