Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

The 3DS without a charger is certainly dumb, but the most ridiculous to me will always be the original 360 launching with only composite cables while pushing HD gaming. not to mention, early models did not use HDMI. Sony's pricing was way off, but at least they were forward-thinking in their hardware design.
I held off until Halo 3 came out to upgrade, by then the Elite had come out and that one did come with component cables and HDMI. KOTOR was my console seller for the OG Xbox, Halo 3 for the 360, and the Day One achievement for the One....

I don't know. In 2005 HD TVs weren't quite a guarantee to be in a household, but holding out for 2 years did kind of suck for those that did have the TVs already. Overall I think we have to look at it a little different when compared to the PS3. Since the 360 generation, Microsoft has been know to iterate on consoles and improve on them with each new model. Think 360 > Slim > E

Sony pretty much does the opposite. The launch PS3 was fully backwards compatible, this was eventually removed, and the Slim PS3 was made with a lot of cutbacks like the stupid slide open top and removal of touch buttons. The only exception is the increasing internal HDD size. Forward thinking is a bit more valid now I'd say, especially with them having the foresight to include the hardware to allow HDR on all PS4s.
THIS! So much this. My flat panel, 140+ lbs, plasma TV did not have HDMI inputs back then, it still doesn't yet that TV is still kicking and is the one my kids use the most now. Part of why the 360 was much more successful out of the gate was that Microsoft didn't make you buy stuff. You could get a bare bones 360 with no WiFi, wired controllers, and practically no hard drive space. You get what you need and the initial investment in the console is minimal. Or you could buy the Elite with all the bells and whistles, except WiFi, for $100 less than the PS3.

Holy shit, I saw that Fortnite video on my Facebook Feed, I follow Unreal, and I can't believe it! The thing's been in media blackout for so long, I thought it just settled into a F2P PC game. Glad they've branched out. I was super bummed when I found out it was just PC but now I can see playing this with some buddies online via the Xbox ecosystem for hours on end! Looks like a combination of Horde mode, State of Decay, Sunset Overdrive & CoD Zombies to me!

Reminder that EA Play is this Saturday at 3PM EST.

Eight games...

Madden 18, FIFA 18, NHL 18, NFS: Payback, SW: Battlefront II, Battlefield 1 DLC, Fe (yes, they have an indie called Fe).

THAT LEAVES ONE GAME I CANNOT FIGURE OUT.

RANGO 2 CONFIRMED.

I forgot about optional Wifi in the original 360. Felt like they were nickel and diming me to death. I never really used the Wifi on any of my consoles though but thought it was strange they left it out in the original 360. Occasionally I use wifi now but because I am too lazy to get another Ethernet cable out of the junk pile and hook it up (currently 3 devices and 2 ethernet cables). But the wifi works well enough for me on my XBox One OG that it doesn't matter much.

I think a big part of why XBox 360 was more successful out of the gate and for most of the time was cost and easy of development. Supposedly the hardware was better on the PS3. However most multi-platform titles worked and looked better on 360. Also Live was vastly superior to PSN. Much of that is no longer true with both the PS4 and One being x86 architecture and games running smoother more often then not on PS4 (seems to be less of an issue now) and the PS4 was $100 cheaper at launch.

I am just glad there is a lot of competition. Drives prices down and makes them keep innovating.

Sorry, that set up was too good to resist.
Agreed. I'll let that one slide. :bouncy:

For what it's worth, they apparently ended up buying everyone a round anyway out of the kindness of their hearts. Just laughed at the idea of how disappointed everyone there must have been after expecting at least 5 guaranteed free drinks.

According to the email I got from Epic, they don't expect Fortnite to enter open beta until 2018.
This seems absolutely crazy considering how many companies produce games so quickly. I'm grateful for companies that stress quality and want to fully test their games, but the development and beta approach for this game seems pretty wild - especially since it doesn't sound like anything mind blowing.

Lol season pass i will never buy u less its under 15 bucks. How many many games have season 2 passes or have went 2 seasons ? Can we just get a game pass for everthing thats gonna come out for the game

Does anybody here know anything about some mysterious unmarked Squre Enix games that appeared on Amazon today with one of them believed to be either XPA or perhaps an Xbox console-exclusive?

People on Neogaf (I know I know, "Neogaf") are speculating those are games currently available only on PS4 and could be on their way to XB1. Others are saying one of them might be the new Tomb Raider. I haven't read anything about this anywhere else and I couldn't this "unmarked" games on Amazon myself.

I imagine that it probably got rebooted at some point, but it's not that much different than most of these community-oriented games where the main difference is whether they get people in early when there's not much there or later on when it's mostly all there. The game has been playable in alpha form through the Epic launcher for a year or two now, so that's been out there for a bit. At least they have an end in sight, which is more than I can say for a number of Early Access games on Steam and Xbox One (Ark, Rust, Subnautica, 7 Days to Die, H1Z1, etc).

Ultimately, it's a free to play game that doesn't require money unless you want to play it sooner.

I would be fine with free content being optional install not title updates
Not really optional when they keep adding free maps to matchmaking and updates to modes like all the new additions we just had to Horde. I guess I see you're point if you're not touching multiplayer, but that's got to be a minority of players at this point.

My only real complaint is just how big these updates are. Actually looking at Gears now, it seems this was the patch to compress the game better as well, as my file size is now 78.8 gigs total.

Possible leak for Halo Wars 2 DLC

EDIT: Nevermind, Frank O'Connor just said it's fake.

I haven't really been seeing any chatter about Agents of Mayhem lately, but the Gamestop pre-order bonus is Johnny Gat from the Saints Row games. Volition said in some Facebook posts that the game is set in an alternate timeline spinning off of the end of Gat Out of Hell. And that pre-order bonuses aren't exclusive forever, presumably meaning they'll be up for purchase at some point.

What if that Halo Gravemind leak is real. And it is a horror game. I know Frank said it was fake. But man, that looks convincing. Also, it shows a Halo 6 logo in the lower left corner. Perhaps a "preorder now to get into the Halo 6 beta" kind of thing.

Also, the 10/10 date. Same date as Shadow of War. Same date (I predict) Scorpio comes out.

Also, also... that image says "This place will become your tomb", which is something that Cortana says in Halo 3.

So, just finished up Rime (excellent) and was wondering if anyone can recommend games with a similar feel.  Not necessarily the art style, but nice visuals, excellent score, etc.  Kind of gives me an Ori type feel in case that helps ring a bell more.  The music and vocals in Rime just put it over the top for me.

Journey, Abzu, Ico for aesthetic similarities. The Witness for puzzle similarities.

I was thinking Halo Wars 2 DLC because of Creative Assembly, but the Alien Isolation team making a horror game could make sense. I don't know just how big the studio is to have been working this and Halo Wars 2 at the same time. The possible upside here is that Frankie has a history of denying games that did in fact exist, with Halo 2 Anniversary at least.

Really, the biggest red flag here is the Halo 6 logo on the bottom. I think it probably is for a beta, but I remember a while ago they said Halo 5: Guardians was named as such because they wanted to move away from from number sequels, and change to a Halo: Subtitle naming scheme. Maybe they just don't have that name yet, or don't want to reveal it, or this plan was dropped in favor of sticking to numbers.

My guess would be that it is a spin off type game like ODST was. (hence CA developing it)

And having Halo 6 Beta access thrown in to boost sales. They probably want some Halo game to release with Scorpio to help drive sales.

On the other hand with Halo leaks, if this image is fake I wouldn't be surprised. While photoshopping up something that looks this good and then seemingly having professional grade printing done is complicated, it's not outside the realm of possibility.

If we step back to the past we have the masterpiece troll leak of Halo 4. The original video is dead but this is a re-upload. Basically someone seemed to record footage of an internal beta on a VHS tape, then filmed this video of them inserting the tape into a shitty old TV in a barn so people couldn't read the watermarks and get the source in trouble.

You've also got the much less graceful leak of Halo: Reach. This came out quite a while before any real details about Reach came out, but I don't really remember the time frame at this point. This guy managed to get potato quality images of a bunch of stuff out there for people to speculate about for months. I know it was quite a while, I thought it was interesting it still had the yellow HUD of ODST. Bungie eventually acknowledged this leak in a weekly update as well.

That revelation that Agents of Mayhem is an alternate timeline Saints Row game is great but they sure waited a long time to let people know.  The game is 2 months away and I really was not that interested but now they have my attention.

The best part is that Pierce Washington's (a hommie from SR3 and SR4) also a playable character, but he didn't get a trailer like Johnny Gat did.

Like Dartigan from Gaming Sins would say: "That's racist" ;)

Planning on jumping into ac3 tonight, never really played much assassin's creed if anyone has helpful tips for playing 3 let me know. I dont care much about story so that isn't an issue

How is Victor Vran? As an avid Diablo player, this game interests me. Physical or digital the better option?

Also on the fence about RiME and Little Nightmares.

All three are good games.

Victor Vran is pretty cool so far. Very much like Diablo. Smashing big bugs and rude skeletons. Victor is voiced by the same dude who did Geralt of Rivia. Assuming you are GCU/Prime, go disc (comes w/ pointless but cool art cards too).

RiME is great. If you like Journey, Ico, The Witness, even Wind Waker - you will like it.

Little Nightmares plays kinda like Limbo and Inside. Creepy aesthetic w/ excellent sound design.

The launch of Gears 4 stream was horrible, they would quickly post a code for the ultimate edition and at the same time the redeem website was down lol
