Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

I'll be interested in Scorpio if it has VR. Purchased a Gear VR with my new phone and love it so far. Used a cheaper plastic VR headset a couple months ago and hated it, but took the risk with Gear due to it costing me only $5/month with no interest.

Some games work better than others. I find the ones that don't try to look real work the best. There's one that was extremely immersive that looked like the inside of a haunted house.

Scorpio will need lots of VR games at launch to justify a purchase for me personally.

They basically confirmed there won't be any VR/Mixed Reality stuff on Xbox this year as they want to focus on (mostly MR) Windows. https://www.polygon.com/2017/6/6/15745630/xbox-vr-e3

Phil's gone on record, or at least I've heard him on Podcast Unlocked, say he doesn't think VR is related with anything with wires. They'll want to come up with a better experience than what's out there at the moment - and no Hololens isn't the solution, that's a whole other market. I've dabbled in VR with the Daydream View (which is similar to the Gear), and previously with Google Cardboard, I got free for purchasing Google's Pixel and have to say it's fun but it's not quite ready for prime time. True there's more of an ecosystem of VR on other platforms but don't be surprised to see Microsoft feel-it-out with VR over 2017-2018. Having the option for it though, that's where all that power will come in down the road.

THIS is the real scorpion.

You win THIS time, non-American football...

Since no one's said this idea yet, why not release the Scorpio console itself and a 4k hdmi and power cable for 400? Add a standard controller for 450 and a elite controller for 500 bundle. 600 is just to much for a console and basic controller.
No company has ever been stupid enough to release a console without a controller. The closest is the New 3DS not having a charger. It's just another built in day one cost for no reason.

Call me (maybe) when It's free.

The Scorpion rumors are awesome. Happy to hear It's $399 (at least supposedly with all the hints dropped)
If those rumors are true I can't wait to pick one up!

...

Next Black Friday when it gets marked down even more and comes with two games and a controller or gift card.

That bundle is for people who already have a system though and want to upgrade from one xb1 to the scorpio. The other bundles are for people who don't have a xb1 system and need a controller. This will save people money down the road on who does and doesn't want a controller. New 3ds xl's were sold without a charging cable cause Nintendo always thought people who owned a charging cable wouldn't need one as they owned a previous iteration of a DS system and anything from DSi onwards use the same charging cable.

I'd imagine most owners got it for free from GameStop's giveaways of two per PUR member.

Which is an odd thing to do since the Scorpio reveal was full of Phil Spencer and others hyping it up for 4K and "High Fidelity VR" purposes, so coming into the official unveiling with only one of those two things is confusing.

Just caught up on the Scorpio discussion.  I fall into the 'will buy it anyway for the horsepower, but would love it if it were cheap camp.'

Don't think Microsoft is looking to take massive marketshare with this, just remain competitive with the more hardcore gaming crowd.  PS4 Pro is one entry (though a strangely underpowered one imo) and of course PC gamers have never had it better.  I agree with the folks who said this is more of a niche product, like the elite controller is.

There can be a ton of profitability to be had with more premium products.  Also, some people in the thread have lost touch with hardware pricing reality.  Priced an iPhone 7 or nVidia 1080 or 1070 lately?  How about an Intel i7?  My point is not about the relative functionality of these products, but the fact that these products do sell.  There's a market out there for people to drop $400-$600 on a graphics card alone.  Just like there's a market for the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and the aforementioned Corvette.

Microsoft has said that the One and the Scorpio will play the same games.  So, if anything, they are segmenting the market to increase satisfaction, meet competitive pressure, and probably increase marginal profit.  It's such a smart thing to do really, and it exists in most product markets.  Look at restaurants or televisions as two more examples where you are buying similar products at very different price points.

For a lot of us, gaming is among our primary hobbies, and compared to a set of new golf clubs, or a new camera lens, the Scorpio is a relative bargain, even if they price it at $599.  I'm looking forward to the reveal, and have already been saving my pennies.

Pachter does not exactly have a great track record with predictions. The things he gets right tend to be along the lines of "the sun will come out" or "water will continue to be wet".

If it's 399 they sold one to me too. Hope Italy stays "tier1" but the sales are like 5:1 or more here for PS4:X1 so we probably don't deserve it.

This is the top10 console chart here for January:

  1.     Fifa 17 PS4
  2.     Resident Evil 7 PS4
  3.     Watch Dogs 2 PS4
  4.     Battlefield 1 PS4
  5.     GTA V PS4
  6.     COD Infinite Warfare PS4
  7.     Uncharted 4 PS4
  8.     Just Dance 2017 Wii
  9.     Pokemon Sun 3DS
  10.     Minecraft PS4
It's also ridicolous how cheaper are HDDs in the US. The same 4TB WD external goes for 152€ on Amazon IT and 108$ in the US. It would be cheaper to spend 40$ shipping than buying one here lol.

Vampyr (from DONTNOD, the team behind Life is Strange and Remember Me) will release this November on XB1.

E3 trailer at the spoiler (no gameplay). Hope it is good, love new IP.

You are Dr. Jonathan Reid, a famous surgeon home from the Great War and recently turned into a vampire against your own will. As a doctor, you have taken an oath to save lives and take care of the sick. As a vampire, you are cursed to hunt those you vowed to heal.

To survive against deadly foes roaming the streets – vampire hunters, undead Skal and other monstrosities – you will need to choose which civilians to feed on, so you can grow stronger and evolve your vampiric abilities. Use your unholy powers to manipulate and delve into the lives of those around you – but be prepared to live with the consequences of your actions. A web of interconnected citizens with unique lives and relationships react to your decisions, and killing just one may cause the downfall of an entire city district. Your actions will save or doom London.

I'm sure this has been mentioned elsewhere, but site search didn't pull anything...

For anyone that takes advantage of Microsoft/Bing Reward, Xbox Game Pass is now a redeemable.

1 Month = 7,000 points (6,800 points with "Level 2" discount)

12 Months = 30,000 points (29,000 points with "Level 2" discount)

Oversimplifying, 1000 points roughly converts to $1USD, which might make this the most economic option for anyone that uses Microsoft/Bing Rewards.

fuck. That GS thread is a shit show. I had to go back pages and pages to figure out what the craziness was about.

I'm so glad that I have a job that allows me to buy whatever the fuck I want. I used to get into the flipping stuff for fun, but I'm too lazy for that shit now.

#Halo
Yeah I don't mind the occasional easy flip or whatever. Especially if I am looking to swap out an older console for a newer one. Or if I am going to trade a game anyway. I have a Best Buy and Game stop near each other at work. And a Best Buy and 2 Game Stops near each other at home. But I just don't have the desire to flip dozens of games and consoles. I am good for one maybe two decent flips a year for like $100 or so. Half the time I can't even figure out the spreadsheet anyway. lol

More power to the people who like do this just not something I care to do very often or for big bucks.

I found it annoying enough when I got my 360 and it didn't come with rechargeable batteries or cheap pack in head phones. Certainly not the end of the world. But I pretty quickly bought Nyko battery packs and cheap headphones.

Can someone confirm something for me?  I was unable to connect online yesterday.  It wouldn't let me play XB1 digital games that I purchased (not the free GwG...I know those need internet).

From googling, it seems like you can only play digitally purchased games if your console is set as the home console.  Why is it that I can't play digital games on the Live account that was used to buy the game?  Are game licenses really tied to "home console" now instead of the gamertag used to purchase?  Does that seem backwards to anyone else?  Or did I do something wrong?

If you are game sharing with someone else (you should be if you are already playing games on your account on an Xbox that is not designated your home console) that is one of the drawbacks. You must be online while playing digital content you bought.

Amazon Italy just listed a bunch of games with no-name placeholder titles - among them 3 different Bethesda games.

My guesses: Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, Fallout 4 Game of the Year Edition, The Evil Within 2.

The 3DS without a charger is certainly dumb, but the most ridiculous to me will always be the original 360 launching with only composite cables while pushing HD gaming. not to mention, early models did not use HDMI. Sony's pricing was way off, but at least they were forward-thinking in their hardware design.

25GB update for gears 4, lost interest in the campaign and requiring 25GB is a good way to make sure I dont go back to it
I tried to tell them that the Gears community doesn't need free content and an update that compresses the game by 20 GB because pittsnoggle might someday return to the campaign....guess they didn't listen.

I'm trying to buy the AC3 dlc, but it keeps telling me Ubi servers are down and I can't even get the listing up in-game. Has anyone been able to?

I held off on the 360 after all the RROD. I bought a 360 Arcade (no HD either) which had a HDMI port on it which I used. I think I briefly used the A/V cable. Can't recall why but I hacked it up to do something. IRC someone I knew sold me a 20GB drive for cheap. Later picked up either 60GB or 120GB. Crazy they sold a console with just minimal internal storage too. I still have the 20GB drive.

When it came time to trade I was happy they would take an HDMI cable with it.

Mike Ybarra just said on Twitter that they unlocked another GB of RAM on Scorpio, now has 9GB of GDDR5 available.

Edit: - ninja'd!!

I bought it yesterday about noon eastern time. Was kind a convoluted process of buying the season pass and installing that in manage game in the my games and apps on the Xbox 1, then going into actual AC3 and purchasing the expansions, then going back out to the xbox dashboard and installing them from manage game again.

Wasn't Fortnight originally going to be a F2P on PC only?
No platform announced initially, but the first alpha was just on PC. Fortnite is still a free to play game.

Keep in mind that this was announced during the 2011 VGAs, so the current consoles didn't exist and the previous consoles weren't exactly big havens for free to play games.

Which is idiotic as the majority of former owners are going to sell/trade their original system toward the upgrade, and to do that people or Gamestop are going to want the full set, meaning the charger for the 3DS or controller for Xbox.

I was wondering this as well, then checked their site and they have a whole bunch of bundles listed, leading me to think maybe it's not a F2P? Like what does "Game Access" mean (it's one of the items listed under each bundle)? Did they mean "early access" or does it mean access to the game?

Founder's Packs for Early Access free to play games are a way of letting people that really want to get into them early to pay and get some bonuses that people otherwise wouldn't get. It's a standard practice for Early Access on Free to Play.

It'll be freely accessible to everybody else once the Early Access period is over. This also doesn't count out them giving out codes for the base game beforehand.

I don't know. In 2005 HD TVs weren't quite a guarantee to be in a household, but holding out for 2 years did kind of suck for those that did have the TVs already. Overall I think we have to look at it a little different when compared to the PS3. Since the 360 generation, Microsoft has been know to iterate on consoles and improve on them with each new model. Think 360 > Slim > E

Sony pretty much does the opposite. The launch PS3 was fully backwards compatible, this was eventually removed, and the Slim PS3 was made with a lot of cutbacks like the stupid slide open top and removal of touch buttons. The only exception is the increasing internal HDD size. Forward thinking is a bit more valid now I'd say, especially with them having the foresight to include the hardware to allow HDR on all PS4s.

I would be fine with free content being optional install not title updates
