GamersGate Features
  • One biggest feature from GamersGate is the use of Blue Coins.
Blue Coins are GamersGate’s virtual currency, is a reward program earned by purchasing games or by simply participating in activities, like pre-ordering games, reviewing games, rating games, and becoming a game tutor; who helps other users with game issues or questions. These coins can then be used to purchase games.
  • You don't need to worry about region restriction. Unlike direct2drive or maybe for some games in steam most of gamersgate game its for worldwide direct download.
  • No need for a client, no need to be online to play a game (depend on the games DRM), just click and play.
  • Patches is usually faster than Steam.
  • You can re-download your game anytime, you can burn the installation files to a DVD.
  • There's no DRM for most of games including Paradox and Capcom titles, there no other and you can view what kind of DRM the game has before you buy that game, if it comes with Steam DRM then the page would say it comes with a 3rd party DRM and you need to install client for it.
  • You can find most of Steam games on GamersGate with a low price, register the key into your Steam account so you can download it from Steam later.
FAQS

Is Gamersgate similar to STEAM meaning do you have to run their application to be able to play the game?
Do you need an account to actually play the games? or is the account only used for buying?
No, GamersGate is not like Steam.. You have to set up an account, but it is only for purchase.
Is the downloading in Gamersgate done via a special proprietary application or can you simply use a browser to download it?
Is resuming download possible or do you need to download it all at once?
Downloading is done through a proprietary app that requires .NET 2.0. Yes you can pause and resume a download, there's an option for it.

Is the downloading format of the game a single file? one you can easily backup?
Is it a EXE file? Is it encrypted in any way?
Downloads may vary, Stalin Subway comes in .bin files, other games comes in full folder with encrpted setup file (.exe), these are decrypted with the GamersGate downloader. All files can be backed up like any others.
Is the installation of the game independent from Gamersgate meaning you just run it like any other normal installation wizard? or you need Gamersgate to install the game?
You need GamersGate downloader to install. Once the files are decrypted, games install normally. But if you really want, you can use copy-paste trick (I would explain this later) to get it fully decrypted without using GamersGate downloader

After the game is installed does it rely on Gamersgate for anything? or is it just like any normal PC Games, total independent?
No, it's just like any game.
Can the installation and running of the game be made totally offline and without any internet access?
Like you download it in one PC, backup the download file to a USB memory stick and transfer it to another PC with no internet access and install and play from there without any problem?
Games run offline, it depend on the games original DRM (GamersGate don't have their own DRM), if its using STEAM then you can visit Steam website and check their faqs about their DRM. A game can be backed up and moved without problem.

For more info visit GamersGate FAQS
TIPS

How to make GamersGate games setup file fully decrypted?
  • You need to do this step during the game installation process after you finish the download (choose to keep the file in the downloader option).
  • If you already choose to keep the temporary file in the end of download or you already keep the downloaded games, then you need to run the setup process via GamerGate downloader that came with the game once again (no need to install)
  • Make sure you know the downloaded games folder location (in most case its inside GamersGate temporary files folder), and browse for the game setup file/launcher (.exe). If you don't know which the file is, check the folder without running the downloader, look for the "launch" file (without extension), check the size and look for the same size .exe file inside the same folder during the setup process.
  • Copy-paste the .exe setup file to another place outside the folder.
  • Close the downloader and copy-paste/cut the setup file back to their original folder.
  • Now you can rename the folder to the game name, run the setup directly from inside of it (without using the downloader), make a back up or move it to another place anytime you want.

I find that their sales are very unorganized. I don't like searching the entire list of games on sale in order to find the 2-4 that I'm interested in. I do it anyway, but it probably pisses a lot of people off.

I use deals4downloads to sort through GamersGate deals it also shows best deal for that game. I pretty much go there daily. I am disappointed no one has been talking about GG deals here

I'd say the spellforce universe is a great deal

Yeah, I agree on the Spellforce Universe deal, insta-bought that.

Unfortunately, the Steam thread has become the one-stop shop for PC gaming discussions. I don't like this, but it's de facto. People post GamersGate and D2D deals in there, talk about Humble Bundle and Indie Royale bundle... everything. The Steam thread has sucked the life out of PC game deals here. Although I admit it's a rather entertaining community, to which I contribute.

The guy from Amazon maintains a pretty good thread too, but he's paid to do it. ;)

My advice - start posting deals like we used to for PC games - one thread per deal, or one thread per site sale, if that's more appropriate. As James Earl Jones once said, "if you post it, they will come." Or something like that.

Today's deals are Battlefield 3 for $39.95 and the Gothic Collection (Gothic 1, Gothic 2 + Night of The Raven, Gothic 3 + Forsaken Gods, and Arcania + The Fall of Setarrif) for $12.50.

OMG! I didn't realize there was a one stop shop for digital download deals! I usually go to multiple deal sites and gaming forums deal threads (like CAG) to find all the different deals.

So d4d shows ALL of them?! I'm very excited at the moment!
That Gothic pack seems like a pretty good deal.
I already own G1, 2, 3, and Forsaken Gods.
I'm missing G2: NOTR; Arcania; and Fall of Setarrif.

Yeah, the Gothic Pack looks like a hell of a deal.
I might get it, just for what I'm missing...

It's a mini miracle but there are a few Capcom games on sale for greater than 50%.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition $5.99
Lost Planet 2 $10.18
Age of Booty $2.00
Dark Void $9.95
Flock $1.98
MotoGP 08 $4.00
Precursors is $9 (check it out!), and so is Xenus II White Gold (the sorta-sequel to Boiling Point, maybe check it out!).
http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-PREC/precursors
http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-XENUS2/xenus-2-white-gold

That's not always the case. I've been able to download Bad Company 2 from Amazon, where I bought it, and from Origin, where it also registers, for example. But one steadfast rule in the world of downloadable games is that they're all digital, meaning that we don't need to waste e-ink with redundant "digital"s. ;)

Edit: I should probably throw in another recommendation for Just Cause 2, for anyone still on the fence. $5 is a bargain! But please note that it will not run on Windows XP. You require Vista or 7.
I purchased a copy of Precursors and Xenus II White Gold after reading about them on neogaf. Haven't got a chance to play them yet though. Anybody who has mild interest should look up that thread.

Anyone ever play The Haunted: Hell's Reach? And does it unlock on steam? Been looking at that one for a while but haven't heard anything good or bad about it. It's 50% off right now.

I have it, but haven't played it. It looks like interesting, mindless fun. The GamersGate version does activate on Steam, appreaing on this list and listing the game's DRM as "Requires a 3rd party download and account". I'd say give it a go. ;)

Hmmm, sounds real tempting. I wonder if it is going to be any cheaper during the steam sale, but it is relatively new.

It probably will. ;)

It's a wave-based survival shooting game if you like those. It's third person too. The big hooks are the importance of melee combat and catastrophic events that occur within levels if you fail to reach a random area in a given amount of time. Try fighting hordes of undead in the fog... or a meteor shower. ;)

It's a decent enough game with reasonably good mechanics. I play it offline so I don't have any idea what kind of player base it has.

I think I will wait until the steam sale starts to see, I figure at worst it will be the same price, but man that description makes me want to play it even more... killing zombies during a meteor shower is right up my alley.

Yeah, the look of the blood and gore is also spot on for me. ;)

75% off at Steam's current price would put it at $10, so Gamersgate is going to be cheaper even factoring the Christmas Sale in for Steam.

i do have about 150 games on Gamersgate that are "giftable" that i would like to trade/sell.

As far as I know, there is no dedicated Gamersgate trading thread.

You can use the Steam trading thread - just make it clear that they are Gamersgate gifts.
