SNES Classic Discussion Thread

While this is great and all, this doesn't change the fact that Nintendo "ended" production and probably led to a lot of people buying one on eBay. They could have said a few months ago that they're halting production for now and that they will re-visit producing more units in the near future.
I have no sympathy at all for the people who paid inflated prices on Ebay, they are part pf the problem.

Well some people would rather pay the extra money to get the item now, avoid the lines, or deal with the hassle of searching for one.

Damn, opportunity missed when I could have sold my NESC for $600. Ah well, at least mine is one of the LE's and has been a ton of fun to play over the year.

Hmm I still don't see them making that many that you will be easily be able to walk into the store to get one, and I see resellers still buying these up for a quick buck

I wonder if Nintendo will address the software mod on the 2018 NES Classic models.
I believe the SNES Classic will answer this.

If the SNES classic is modded within a month (which i expect), then the NES classic Re-run will be as well.

I doubt nintendo is gonna bother with reworking the code on these niche systems.

It's not like people can't pirate/play these roms on other devices already.

I think this cements it.  SNES will be plentiful.  NES will soon be too, and value will be about what it should have been before the rarity/reseller factor kicked in.

But didn't Nintendo's statement about stopping NES production months ago specifically mention they were stopping production for THIS YEAR, leaving them an out for the future?  They probably planned it all along just so they could put up the SNES by itself for a while.

I haven't heard of this mod. What exactly was done?

Going into detail would violate CAG forum rules, so you won't be able to get an actual answer here.
Oh, ok. I didn't mean every detail, like how to actually mod it. I'm just curious why someone would mod it. Rephrased:
What does it do differently post-mod?

And in a single instant, scalpers across the globe cried out in anguish....

Haha, I was never going to sell mine so it doesn't affect me in the least. However, I'm happy to see more people will be able to get one as well.

Look at Nintendo previous track record. They say they'll have a lot and it'll be the same circus as before.

Scalpers (and resellers) aren't worried about more stock as it'll likely still be limited and if it isn't for once, you can just return it.

But glad more* people are able to get it at MSRP.

*not that much

Amazon cancelled my pre-order because I'm in Alaska. They had a weird email we were talking about a few pages back where they said they couldn't ship to Alaska or Hawaii and that we had 5 days to change the address. Then they cancelled the orders right as the email went out. We were talking about this a few pages back.

Well, Amazon called me today and let me restore the pre-order with them!!! They said the way it was handled was a mistake. Just wanted to let you guys know that if you had your pre-order cancelled in this way to make sure you take a call from a 206 area code!!!

My amazon order got cancelled. Apparently since I'm not in the contiguous 48 states, they can't ship it to me. What really pisses me off was that I logged into my orders as soon as I received this and the order was already cancelled. I called customer support and they said it was cancelled about 1 minute after the email was sent.

I'm not too hopeful. For the last year or two they stopped delivering power banks and backup batteries to my state no matter who the dealer is. Probably due to airline regulations.

I hear you. Yes, the regulations changed for shipping batteries. But I don't even know if the snes classic has a battery or if it's big enough to be regulated. Amazon let me re-create the order to Alaska. So I hope they call you too!

Damn, I just got the call! Thanks for the heads up about the 206 area code! If it's like yours, I had to buy a strangely titled gaming accessory which they are going to update later. This day is off to a good start.

nintendeal tweeted toysrus is sevuring 28,000 snes classics and thats about close to 50 per store
Most TRUs will probably have more than 50 people lined up launch morning so some people that waited outside on day 1 will still not get it. As previously posted by scottman, how often they replenish supplies will be key.

I must have missed this information, but I'm guessing that most people here know that the launch date is now Sept 29th for USA stores. (maybe I'm crazy and this has always been the date, but I was certain that this originally was due before my birthday.

The reports of SNES classic numbers estimate that the SNES C will match the total number of NES C sold, for the SNES C day one availability. However this is still a concern, since I never saw a NES C at all. But this will mean that there are going to be better numbers at launch then 1-3 per store.

If that tweet is accurate, that means every TRU will have between 30 and 90 units. That is a very respectable number. It's possible they have more to give out since they never opened up online preorders, but there was evidence in that chain also that walmarts are getting at least 30 as well. They will still be selling out instantly, but those are at least respectable launch shipments. As others have pointed out, it all boils down to how well N does restocking quickly.

It will also be interesting to see if they let stores like gamestop do more pre orders once it turns out that there will be plenty of stock.

Now everyone can buy 3-5 units for their friends.

Still don't get the madness over these. Sure, there's nostalgia but can't help but think that more than half of the anxiety here is just a bubble created by the NES scarcity (which will now be taken care of with a reissue), and of course the dreadful scalpers.

No way is this thing worth any headache over. Grew up playing some of these games but not sure i'd play any of these much now. Only way I bother is if I see one while i'm at a store ... And even then, maybe.
