 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

I feel like a total fan for having the import limited edition of it and it came with a bonus calendar. Yeah, I'm hyped to see it again on the big screen no less.

Does anyone know if the new Studio Ghibli release of Princess Mononoke fixed the english subtitle issue and not use the Disney script?

All the fate stay night heaven's feel tickets sold out around me. ;_;

I didn't expect the demand to be this high. A-anyone want to sell me a ticket for new york village east cinema?

Woah, thanks for the heads up. I had no idea this was getting a North American release! I'm really happy about all these N.A. releases of JP films btw! Such an awesome trend. Managed to snag a ticket locally for Nov. 20th. Almost completely sold out.

Everything I've read said that, yes, they fixed the subtitles.
Thanks for the confirmation. I managed to also come to the same conclusion by reading a few reviews here and there, so I went ahead and purchased it. I haven't bought many of the Ghibli films, but have seen most of them and Princess Mononoke has been my favorite of the bunch. I was disappointed to hear about the initial subtitle fiasco with the first blu-ray release, but am glad this new version seems to have kept the fantastic dub as well as fix the english subtitles so I can fully enjoy it in Japanese as well.

The new version apparently comes with the English hearing-impaired "dubtitles", as well as the direct Japanese-translation subtitles. So you have the option of using either. I am seriously considering double-dipping on these. Apparently there isn't much difference in the audio or video, but that subtitle option is really nice for someone who never listens to these in English.

I hope part 2 is 75% off blu rays. Red rays need to hurry up and come out so we can get sweet deals
"Red Rays" Are already here man, but if some dude in a suit of plastic armor show up to deliver, don't answer the door.

No seriously, red laser has already been done, that was DVD. A blue-ish Laser is used for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. The next light intensity laser being discussed for optical medium read/write is something in the green color spectrum, however Microsoft and several other companies are presently exploring development of a new data chip based playback technology to replace optical media.

Wouldn't UV be next? Green has a longer wavelength than blue

I don't pretend to understand the logic behind it, just telling you what I read in a technology report somewhere. Also UV is being used by Blu-Ray 4K players to allow for quadruple-layer media. Mmm yes quad data layer optical media, the perfect future candidate for "disc rot" issues. The standard Blue laser used in Blu-Ray players can read/write data to & from triple-layer disc media.

I visited a garage sale this morning that regularly has anime, games, and comics.  I picked up J2: the Counterattack of Siberia Yagyu Jubei-Chan 2 and Nadia The Secret of Blue Water for $2 a disk. The books were $2 as well.  Nadia was a bit of an impulse buy, but it looked interesting and was complete. Are these series good?

I haven't been doing much anime buying lately.  I've been using more streaming.  I've liked vrv since I get crunchyroll and funimation.

Rather obvious that NISA seems to have backed off from licensing anymore anime for the North American market. Any opinions on whether they'll continue to pursue being a anime publisher or drop out? Any thoughts as to what titles they'll put on sale in the next month or so?

Last year was the very first year I ordered any of their anime, and apparently was the second time they had offered a deeply discounted, compared to their MSRP that is, bundle of titles. The bundle was offered during their annual Holiday Sale which began on Cyber Monday and ended on Friday of the same week. The bundle was titled as "Single Season Set 2" and included all of the following titles for the sum total of $87.94.:

  • BRAVE 10 Complete Series Premium Edition (BD)
  • Fusé: Memoirs of a Huntress Premium Edition (BD)
  • Everyday tales of a Cat God Premium Edition (BD)
  • The Troubled Life of Miss Kotoura Complete Premium Edition (BD)
  • House of Five Leaves Standard Edition (DVD)
Does anyone know what titles were offered in their original "Single Season Set"? Also any speculations on what titles they may bundle up this year, assuming they offer up another such bundle at all?

Awesome finds! I have yet to watch Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water myself, but it has been recommended to me by several friends over the years. Super nice find on getting the chipboard box with the J2 series.

Jubei-chan is a great series (enjoyed the first season more than the second though), but you'll want to watch the first series before the second

I think I'll do that. Know any good streaming options for the dub? It is on crunchyroll, but I prefer watching in english.

I did find an old timey scythe for $5 that I just had to buy.
Cool! Bought a mining pick earlier this year at one. Something about those ancient tools of hard labor carries a very alluring vibe.

I somewhat religiously yard sale virtually every Saturday morning. Anime, and manga for that matter, are rarities for me to find at a yard sale. Only anime I've run across at one this year was one of the old DBZ big box DVD sets, which I bought for $1. Video games aren't technically rare to find at yard sales in my area, what does make them a hard find is encountering such a yard sale before one of the area video game dealers finds that yard sale first. There are at least three reseller/dealers who regularly are out yard sale'ing on the hunt for anything video gaming related to snatch up and resell online, they've made it very difficult to find anything good.

Computers do turn up at yard sales, but with less frequency than in the past because the commoners have bought into the media hype concerning data theft to the point they'd rather blast away their old computers as target practice fodder or hand them over to Best Buy for destructive Recycling than to take a risk reselling it to someone who could potentially get some usage out of it, rather sad and wasteful.

About seventeen or eighteen years back I went to a moving sale and the couple moving had absolutely dozens and dozens of anime VHS tapes for sale. I bought three of them for $5; Black Magic M-66 being the only one of them I can still recall the title thereof. I watched them on my Commodore 1501 monitor using a physically damaged RCA VHS camcorder (also bought from a yard sale dirt cheap) that the camera no longer was operable on, but worked fine as a cheap VHS player. Loaned them to a couple of friends, whom also got to watch them, and then I mailed them off as a donation to the library of University of Minnesota's "Manga Anime Society" for which I was a member of the forum thereof on the internet. They kept promoting they were taking donations and they had maintained a free library as it were that club members could borrow tapes from at no charge. I remember being more than a bit irritated though because a few months later when that school year ended their club underwent leadership changes and they completely did away with their online forums! I felt kinda bad about it because prior to that point the club was literally open to anyone by way of the internet, not exclusive to just students and persons local to the University of Minnesota. But that was my first experience finding anime at a yard sale. Second time I found a anime at a yard sale was the following year (maybe 2000?) the VHS of Princess Mononoke, which I kept for quite a long time and loaded out many times.

Sorry, I don't. I have it on DVD myself. Might have to watch it subbed if that's all they have. I've only watched it that way though, so I can't comment on the quality of the dub.

Is Himouto! Umaru-chan any good? Also that price for the Uta OVAs are great, but I'm guessing there's a minimum for free shipping that's not easily attainable.

Free shipping on orders totaling over $75.00. Not sure what they charge for shipping on orders below that to be perfectly honest, kinda depends on whether or not they use USPS Media Mail.

Decided to rewatch the Stagiaire Arc of Shokugeki no Soma. Ended up rewatching he entire first season. Guess Ill rewatch S2 while im at it.

Hot garbage! It's the poor man's SAO (which itself isn't that good). Take being stuck in a video game and subtract any sense of urgency about trying to leave add bland characters, an even blander story. And Bad artwork.

TLDR
Your waifu is Shit
i find that a bit harsh. i easily find s1 of LH better than any VRish anime atm. except for maybe Overlord. while S2 does look worse its got its decent parts. though i would tell most people only 1 season of it exists lol.

I don't think anything can be a poor man's SAO since SAO is as poor as anything can get.

If there's no implied rape or incest that alone would make it better.
