Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

Just barely saw about the Omega Labryinth Z....must buy there. It may not be amazing, but another one to add to my Vita collection, especially with the item revealing game thing....need that touch screen.

Too bad Great Edo Blacksmith was never touched by anyone. I got a kick out of the premise for that one where you have to earn money to pay some gold digging ladies. Also Coven of the Labyrinth, and that likely bad game about kissing (some strategy game...forgot the name now). Maybe the rest of my wishlist will come some day.

I'm stoked for Xenoblade 2 tomorrow.   Think I'll dive right into it.  Got the pro controller coming as well.   So glad to see the game is getting good reviews too;  it's sitting at 85% metacritic with 25 reviews.

I'm also wishing really hard for Coven of Labyrinth (Vita), did that get a enhanced re-release on PS4 for the Asian market? Or am I remembering things incorrectly?

I also assumed it was a bad game and was catered to Furries. Then I played it and I regret badmouthing it. :lol:

The gameplay was satisfying for me.

Yeah, it released for PS4 in September overseas. Still no word on any English subs or western localization, though.

Well, my Xenoblade Chronicles 2 shipped out earlier today and will arrive tomorrow. Surprisingly via UPS instead of the more recent usual Amazon Logistics in my area. It means I'll (probably) get it earlier in the day since Amazon has been rather slow with weekday packages, arriving later than other alternates. Not that it makes a huge difference.

Beat Cat's Quest the other day since I was able to leech it from a friend and figured it was pretty short. The game is alright. Definitely a mobile game and pretty repetitive. Not a whole lot to it and probably wouldn't take more than an hour to platinum it at this point if I wanted. The entire game felt like it lasted a few hours.

Though it looks like I'll finally try out the FFXV multiplayer DLC with a friend tonight. Granted with Xenoblade arriving tomorrow, I'll pretty much [customspoiler='feel like this']

Oh man that is an unexpected choice! Really looking forward to post game impressions to see if it lives up to the hype as this is on my watch list. Trying to wrap up my backlog of shorter games before diving into another 60+ hour RPG.

Good to hear it's getting good reviews. I'm trying to go in as blind as possible so I haven't looked up much information on it. Picking up my copy from Best Buy tomorrow since I didn't trust the post office to deliver it on time after a few recent incidents.

true that. I've been waiting for that announcement....I'll keep waiting. I'm glad we're getting BC on 2017 but I'm surprised they didn't announce that alongside EDF 5 to be honest.

How exactly does getting Revelations for Fire Emblem Fates work? I sort of vaguely recall hearing you purchased one of the physical versions, purchased the other as DLC, and that unlocked it, but I really can't remember for sure. Can you buy both physical versions of Fates? Is it actually sold separately from either?

If you buy Conquest or Birthright, there's an in-game store where you can buy Revelations for real money (it's like $20 or something). Revelations doesn't exist as a standalone release unless you own the special edition that has all three games/routes on one cart.

Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition has all 3 routes on one cartridge.

If you buy Fire Emblem Fates Conquest or Fire Emblem Fates Birthright physical, you can purchase the other route digitally for $20. You can also buy it physical, however Revelations, the 3rd route, is only a $20 digital download (outside of the SE) for either of those physical copies. The rough size for each route if you go the DLC path route is as follows:

Revelations - 599 Blocks

Conquest - 880 Blocks

Birthright - 787 Blocks

The full game for a single path digitally sits at around 12.5k blocks, which doesn't include the other two paths.

Got my Xenoblade 2 CE from BestBuy today and WOW this thing is heavy. The box must weigh 8-10 lbs! I didn't realize it would be coming with a full size artbook, I thought it would be one of those small, portrait oriented artbooks that usually come with video games. Unfortunately, BB shipped it in a bubble mailer with no extra padding and the corners are smashed.  :whistle2:(

I think I'm going to stick with Amazon from here forward because my SNES classic that I ordered from Best Buy was also smashed. At least with Amazon I can easily return my items no questions asked. Best Buy is much more of a PITA with returns so it usually doesn't feel worth it.

For me, amazon is a worse offender at this than Best Buy. I like to do in-store BBY pickup on the things I would be really picky about.

I'm waiting for my $38 standard edition of the game to be delivered today (from the gcu + visa checkout era)

 
^ I agree that Amazon is not known for their thorough packaging, but I'm less hesitant to order from them because of their lax return policy. I don't live close to any Best Buy stores so in-store returns/pickup aren't an option for me unfortunately. The only reason I ordered from Best Buy was for the GCU discount--Amazon didn't add the Prime discount to the Xenoblade CE until the very last second.

That's because they didn't add it at all. They were price matching Walmart or someone. That's why it's not 20%, and why it's still valid after release.

EDIT: Though since the 10 year anniversary of Vesperia is almost here, it will most likely involve that given how popular it is worldwide for series fans.

While nice, the semi-direct sequel to go with it would also be good. Well, it takes place 18 years after with Stan's son as the protagonist anyways. I'd just really like to [customspoiler='box up all these games']

grrr I just want to play Xenoblade.  UPS tracking is acting funny today.   Deliveries for the same day of always say 'Out for Delivery'.   Today it doesn't say that.   The tracking says it's still 'on-time for delivery today Fri 12/1 by the end of the day', but it hasn't updated since it arrived at the local center at 2:21am.  It seems like one of those cases where they won't update the delay until the very end of the work day around 7pm, and then it won't arrive until Monday!   But I'm not sure.   What are the chances it gets delivered today?

Could still be a decent shot to get it delivered today. BB just delivered my Xenoblade Chronicles 2 a few minutes ago. They actually came through with the next day delivery after it was shipped yesterday. It was in a well-protected box like 95% of the CEs they deliver to me.

 
Went to pick up my XC2 SE from Best Buy.  They brought it out from the cage and it looked like an elephant had sat on it.  Flattened, flaps popped open.  I just gave them a look like "are you f'in serious?" and asked to return it after they said it was their only copy.

I picked up my XC2 SE up at Best Buy during opening so I could play right away, but I also had another one shipped. Upon opening, I lucked out with another Best Buy shipping mistake since they gave me another SE for free in the package.  :bouncy:

I hope these UPS guys are delivering on Saturdays now.  Most of the year anything late on Friday gets pushed back to Monday.

Got my Amazon copy earlier in the afternoon. Played a couple hours and seemed fun despite only doing the one tutorial battle. Love the Japanese voice cast.

I'm a couple hours in and while thankfully Rex's English voice actor and most of the others are ok to me, Malos is really awful. Wish they would have just rounded up the usual suspects to do the English VO.

 
I went to BB to get my copy and it was chewed up from one of those security spider wrap things.  My Best Buy ruins tons of CEs from those things, but I think this is the first time I was given a CE that had been in one that I preordered.  Luckily, they also had one on the floor... not in the spider wrap lol.  I can't wait to start it later tonight!

Just got a notice from UPS. The game said it was going to be delivered today but got changed to Monday... Monday! Not even Saturday.
